How is it not practical or functional? The multi-touch keypad should DEFINITELY stay, but I'm just saying that the multi-touch screen should be there as an option. AS a user, you should be able to turn Multi-Touch screen ON/OFF as you choose. I just want the option to touch a bookmark in my Safari bookmark bar or touch a link on CNN.com or touch an app icon in the dock if I wanted to. Like iPhone heaven. That's all I'm saying. Wouldn't you?

Actually I try and make a habit of touching my screen as little as possible, so no.

What is all this talk of new MBP's or new MB, but I don't think Apple would launch such flagship devices without an event. An event wouldn't come about without invitations at least a week ahead of time.

Did we forget the announcement we recently got? The shipment coming later this week will be the newly released 2GB iPod Shuffles.

I don't know what you consider "bulky" lol. Are you serious???

I mean it's thick and old. Apple can definitely thin the thing out by now and make it lighter and it's time that they did. It's a great machine, but it's way overdue for a serious revision. And, Apple must be able to execute this by now.
That's all I'm saying.
Why don't you keep your MBP and I'll by the new and I'll buy the new & improved one?

I'm not saying that there is a smaller and lighter pro laptop then MBP; I'm just saying that Apple is way overdue on completely revising the MBP and introducing the All-New MacBook Pro. And, when they do, they should definitely include a screen that gives you the option to multi-touch if you wanted to.

You Multi-Touch screen people really aren't keen on how Apple is implementing Multi-Touch are you??? That will be in the Newton. The laptops and desktops will ditch the keyboard and have that patent Multi-Touch surface we just saw. But that won't be for a couple years after they all get the MacBook Air style trackpads to ease us into it.

hopefully the new MBP comes out. would be pretty important for me, especially because i told my employer i'll go to work again, when i hold the lovely notebook in my hands ...

ok, not true, but i'm waiting very hard for it. somehow i fear, that apple uses the MBP that all the hard waiting people take a look on the apple site every tuesday to check if it comes out and they delay it as long as possible :(

best wishes from austria!

All that sounds very likely and exciting, and I agree with it; I'm just saying that we should also have the option to touch the actual screen if we wanted to.

hmm, not quite sure about this: why would companies update their products if they already work fine?

e.g nano G1, it was fine, why couldnt they have just re-done the internals (more storage/battery)

the white iMac, what was wrong with that?

Apple is one of the few companies that does obsolete their own products even when they are still very successful with something even more cool.

To look cool in public, albeit being laughed at by blackberry owners.

The way you give your iPhone a quick wipe down, you'd do that to your laptop.
Big deal. What Apple should really invent is a screen that defrosts or defogs :)
This way we can touch all we want!!

:)

Then why did you buy the iPhone?

Because about 4 years ago I sold my soul to apple. Oh, and because its not a laptop, so I don't mind touching its screen. Can you imagine how obnoxious it would be to be typing on the keyboard and then have to reach up and point at the screen and then rest your hands back on the keyboard. Nope. Not for me. But sure, compare it to an iPhone all you want.

MBP Multitouch

It's funny how some of you fantasise about the MBP multi-touch. Seriously, if Apple would be producing such a device they'd have to include quite some changes in the OS AND within the hardware. My opinion is that such a change wouldn't be revealed during a short Apple-Store-Downtime. It'd be a huge- advertised- event.
A multi touch trackpad, however, is nothing new to Apple. They won't show of woth the same technique twice- that's not Apple style.
So I agree with those users stating a multi touch-Macbook (Tablet-Mac) won't hit the market until 10.6.
Time Capsule wont be a reason either to shut down the store and the SDK will be announced by event, according to my experience with Apple.
It's probably going to be a MBP with Penryn & Multitouch since this is only a small update, no big change of design or major hardware changes.

my bet is on MB regular update

I just returned my MB Air because I just couldn't make the space available on the hard drive work for me.

So, I was going to go out this weekend to buy a black Mac Book. A good friend of mine closely connected told me to wait until Tuesday. So, I'm guessing that it is an MB update on Tuesday that will be announced.

:D

is your friend a high up apple employee? or just somebody like us who says 'wait until tuesday out of habit'?

Sure, but like I said. Apple is NOT implementing Multi-Touch that way. The touch screen will be in the new Newton. The laptops and desktops will ditch the keyboard and have a full Multi-Touch surface NOT on the screen, and this is after they ease us in with the MacBook Air style track pads in about 2 years when 10.6 comes out and they have it fully implemented into the OS. Look at the freaking signs people, can't you see their strategy???

That tactile laptop keyboard is far better, faster, and more accurate than a crappy onscreen touch keyboard.

I wouldn't bet on it since it was JUST updated two months ago and the MBP is almost 100 days overdue.

Forget the MBPs, I want a new mac mini. Plus the longer they drag it out the more entertaining it is on the boards ;)

Plus if they do release new MBP all I get to read about for the following two weeks are the problems with it.
