I just don't see apple going back to the volume rocker. Having never owned an iPhone and my last iPod touch being the 1st Gen (with no volume buttons lol) I don't know the benefits cons of a volume rocker vs metal buttons...but with using the + key as a camera button I don't see them going back.

This is interesting because if Apple does introduce a low end low cost "cheaper" iPhone 4S to introduce to the middle-market, what will their parts be to maintain that premium feel? Or will they join Samsung and the like an go with plastic to save costs? Can we still call that a premium product? It'll be interesting to see.

I've been wondering this too. I think if Apple does end up going with plastic, they'll go with better plastic than Samsung and others are using. Either that, or they'll use crappy aluminum instead of the good stuff they use on the iPads, MacBooks, etc.

I'm thinking the same thing. Plus the separate aluminum buttons just look nicer than a volume rocker does.

Where are you guys seeing a rocker style volume button with this case? It looks like it perfectly fits the 2 buttons of an iPod touch.

Even though the iPod touch has technically separated volume buttons, I still see them as a volume rocker. Maybe it's because of the plastic, idk. But the separated aluminum volume buttons on the iPhone 4 look better regardless.

I'm not saying that it should be thinner, I'm saying that it can be.

Yes, the iPad is bigger, but the parts in the iPhone are also smaller. And with the rumors saying that the iPhone might be wider to accommodate a larger screen or whatever, then they will have more room to spread the components around, instead of "stacking" them.

I don't think iPhone parts are smaller. In fact the iPhone 5 will prob have the exact same parts as the ipad2. Just like ipad1 vs iphone4. The iPad is just stuffed with battery, plus has smaller cameras.

Agreed. Especially considering they just made all the toggle switches in iOS5 round. I don't think for consistency sake that'd they'd buy into the design in iOS5 and then change them back on the actual physical design.

Isn't the logic board on the iPad bigger than it is on the iPhone? From the look of this picture it looks like if the parts were the same size the iPhone would be massive:

How in the world does the buttons being plastic make you see it as a rocker style button? That doesn't even make sense.

What looks better (between iTouch and iP4) is irrelevant and subjective. Whether or not it's a rocker or separate buttons is plain as day. And personally, I prefer the iPods buttons to the iP4. Would be better if they weren't plastic, but I hate the tiny circular buttons on the phone.

I have no idea, but when I look at it I think "rocker" when it very clearly isn't. Well, to each his own. The buttons on the iPod touch are more difficult for me to press than the ones on the iPhone 4. I guess that's what happens with everyone having different hand/finger sizes.

Probably because of the material. Like I said, they'd probably be a lot better with a higher quality material.

Maybe it's just because they have the space. But for the most part they have used the exact same parts. If you look at an iPhone 4 logic board it looks a lot more "condensed". From what I remember the iPad and iPhone 4 used mainly the exact same chips, a4, a gyro, wifi chip, touch controller, and I'm sure some other stuff. I think the iPad has twice as much room for flash memory though. The iPhone 4 camera part is actually to thick to fit in the ipad2 so that may hold the phone back. Although who knows what the camera part will be like this year.

Nobody sees this?

Strange! standing up the case is just straight and not tappered. Laying on his back you quite can see its tappered. Or are my eyes fooling me...

Yeah...you answered yourself at the end! Optical illusion! :)

Well since the original iPhones inception, leaked cases have never, let me repeat NEVER been wrong for the overall design. Yes they may have had a wrong port or something but the overall design has always been spot on.

They are not going to invest literally design millions in fabs and machinery just on a hunch. Or guess. I had a incipico feather iPhone 4 case on launch day, and it fit the iPhone 4 perfectly. How did they do that exactly? Hmmmm. ;)

And no that isn't a iPod touch. The iPod touch will not be tapered. The tapered effect has to do with the 8 mega pix camera, nothing else. The iPod touch has no reason for such a design because it's doesn't use a camera with the same quality.

Plastic is out. The 3gs was plastic, the iPhone 4 did away with the plastic. Plastic is due for the iPhone 4S, in case you haven't noticed Apple doesn't like plastic in it's flagship products.

The iPhone 5 will be aluminum with a plastic piece or some other innovation for the cellular signal most likely.

Optical illusion my ass, it's straight as a line.

Guess I should have been more clear...the optical illusion is while on it's side...it does look slightly tapered. Definitely no taper present standing up

I think the tapered design is actually kinda slick. It gives the iPhone a fresh, new look that's not too common (yet) in the smartphone business.
