That's why I *try* to give general info or say things like "supposedly". I never post the actual seed note. I try to provide helpful info, without giving away the farm. Who knows; I'm not a lawyer.

you shouldn't be a lawyer to understand that you broke your NDA
agreement with Apple

Lighten up on all this.

The most we know is that Tiger is coming along nicely.

I still can't ignore the possibility that Apple may reveal
a sneek peek of Tiger at FOSE, just to piss off Intel's CEO
who is scheduled for a keynote.

market it now

Hope it comes soon to the market
Let see what it does
Hope apple understands that people postpone the purchase of an apple on the presumption that tiger is coming soon
Including me

I would suppose that if everyone is holding off on a Mac purchase. Then maybe Apple will decrease some prices to move inventory.

Postponing a purchase only because an operating system is not yet out has the following disadvantages:

1. You don't get the use of the machine you were to purchase.
2. If you have an actual need for a machine today, you lose money by not having that machine as long as you wait.
3. You know that the current machines which have been out for awhile are better debugged than a new machine with an untested operating system. If you wait till a new machine with an untested operating system comes out, then you may find yourself troubleshooting more than if you take a tested operating system with an older machine.
4. If some features of the new operating system are available for the older one from third parties, your delay may still not be worth it. If you combine QuickSilver, MenuStrip, and/or Launchbar with Konfabulator, you almost get all the features of Tiger in one bundle. If that's the only thing delaying you from buying a new machine, then you might want to consider, is it really worth the wait? Most of Apple's current machines will meet most people's needs. Only most the demanding power user trying to compress 10 hours of video in 2 hours time may find themselves better off waiting.

The one advantage of waiting till it is released is that you ensure you buy a machine that is known to be compatible with it. Since Apple has not yet released the system requirements for Tiger, waiting till it is released will ensure that you know you get a machine that is definitely compatible with it.

Someone said a few posts back about there being a launch party and getting to a store early or camping out, will this happen? did stuff like that happen for panther?

Yes, stuff like that happened for Panther. It wasn't for the announcement, but when the OS was available at the Apple Stores, i.e. the actual release. I think they had a 10% discount at the store, if memory serves me. People lined up hours in advance. I'd be very surprised if the same doesn't hold true for the Tiger release.

Thanks, I camped the night before the Regent Street Store opening, the atmosphere was electric, if people are planning on going i'll definitely be there!

Yes, they had a launch party for Panther. My wife and I went to the Chestnut Hill Mall. The release Party was at 10pm. We were visiting the store at 8pm, then inquired about where the line would begin. So as soon as the store closed we got in line, we were first it line. It was a lot of fun. A time to visit with other Mac fans. Also had people walking by and asking what the line was about. Some were interesting and listened. it was a lot of fun and made the time pass by quickly. It was awesome to walk into the store as the firs customers.

Yes, they had a 10% discount. If you purchase Panther, that would allow a 10% discount on a Mac and and certain software. My wife took advantage and got a PowerBook.

Doesn't seem likely Apple with ship Tiger on April 15th. We are already nearing March.

I have been very doubtful of the April 15 release date rumor.
Lately It seems that I might be proven wrong. The seeds Are becoming more solid.
Apple also has 2 big shows FOSE and NAB coming up in April giving them 2 reasonable outlets to try to steal a show with a big announcement.
My bet would be for a NAB announcement.

No offense intended here BUT.....

If you find the announcement/release of a new piece of software as something that qualifies as an "electric atmosphere" you might consider getting a life. :)

Sorry, didn't mean to bother you in the break you took from that drug-filled sex party you were just at to post on a computer rumour forum. We all wish we had a life and a username as good as yours. :)

On this point, I'd assume that Tiger's compatible with machines that currently run Panther. Obviously, as with Panther, some of the higher-end graphics features might not run, but just about any G3 or G4 will likely run it. I'm sure we'd have heard if, say, Tiger wasn't compatible with G3 iBooks or somesuch.

with past releases of mac os' , like panther, have they conincided with store openings? the apple store in birmingham still hasn't opened, and i was told possible opening in april - do you think it could open the same day as tiger is released, if it is april 15?

Yes, I think that is a definite possibility. The Panther release coincided with the opening of several new Apple Stores, including the one I visit at Legacy Village in Lyndhurst, OH.

he he, that made me laugh, it's true about people who go about telling others to get a life.

he he

I love striking up conversations with fellow Mac users I occasionally meet in "PC World" in the UK. It really makes my worthless excuse for a life worth living. :D

Apple is, at best, inconsistent about student discounts on hardware. At some stores, they won't do them at all and send you online. At others, they're honored. I don't know if Apple forbids using a student discount in conjunction with a one-day offer like the one at the Mac OS X 10.3 "Panther" release. As far as iMacs go, after looking at the buyer's guide, I'd say the chance of that happening is around 60%, possibly higher - basically, the odds look to be in your favor at this point.

Some of us find this interesting, and still have lives - Its something we are interested in, and is fun for us. I go to clubs / bars too.... But thats not all there is to life.

PS, for someone that often brags about being "Highly Influential" to apple with 1835 some odd Xserves (that would make one of the worlds largest supercomputers, yet I have yet to find out where they are "hidden"), you don't have much room to talk.

Of course, No offense intended :D
