I thought that was part of being a beta tester, that you send Apple updates on progress and any problems. That's for sure if Apple isn't told about a problem then it may not get fixed.

I'm not a beta tester, but I do my part. When Safari crashes, I always elect to send a message to Apple.

The problem is that it some times seems that Apple is slow to address issues. I am not a big one on remembering what was fixed in each 10.3 update; but it did seem to me that it should not have taken to 10.3.6 through 8 to address some of them.

I am bothered by a potential 4/15 release - in that it seems to me that 10.4 is being rushed to market.

What would be the reason for Apple to rush 10.4 to market if it isn't ready? I would the that bad publicity would cause them to take a second look.

It isn't a question of pushing it before it is ready. It has never really been ready for any version of Mac OS X if you believe some people. The question of "readiness" is one that is subjective, not objective. Will it appeal to the majority of people in enough time that it prevents them from desiring to switch to another platform? That's always a balancing act. Marketing is the driving force of the matter. Apple on the other hand has garnered a lot of good press for releasing a relatively stable, secure operating system. And that speaks volumes. Unfortunately, Apple's own marketing has not done enough to market its own operating system outside the Mac userbase. Hopefully the iPod halo effect is real, and people will be going to Mac Minis now that they are available for so little.

MacOSXRumors.com's article about the 8A414 build of Tiger has been removed at the request of Apple Legal.

Does this say anything about the status of Tiger or should we be more worried about Apple's legal tactics?

Just head up the coast. Knock on the door of the Cupertino headquarters, and ask to speak to Apple Legal. Ask them what they would consider the breaking point for rumor sites, and what they won't. Given that you live in Los Angeles, that shouldn't be too hard!

I don't know why people keep screaming, "It's build 8A414, it's nowhere near ready!"
Have y'all forgotten that the build Steve used at MWSF was at least 2 builds ahead of what was the current release!?!
Apple is far ahead of the developers internally, and signs (vacations, wrap parties) show an April debut.

Apple's builds are FAR ahead of 8A414. This is FACT!

Ahead by a few days sure. A week ahead maybe. Several weeks to Way ahead NO.

What Steve demoed at MWSF looked identical to the build I had at the time.
Without having an exact copy of the build he had there I can't say that it was the exact copy. I expect that it was a few build numbers newer but it wasnt weeks ahead IMO.

As far as 8A414 the build was current less than a week ago. I'm sure that they made new builds since then but it really doesn't make sense to be very far ahead of those who are beta testing for you.
Bugs are constantly found by testers that Apple will never find themselves because they are too close to the problems. Thats why builds are always sent to testers.
End users/beta testers always try things that most engineers would not even have dreamed of trying.

There are also 2 distinct build ships. One to developers and one to beta testers. We happen to get both. They are usually different by 10 to 15 build numbers from ea other.

Certainly is a reminder of Halloween. Question would be is there any connotation? The orange definitely stands out boldly on the main page.

It'll turn to green when WWDC gets underway. Or is the color to similar to the shuffle ads?

New Tiger Seed

I started a thread on this in the Tiger SW forum, but I thought it might be of interest here. ADC just post 8A420 today. Most bugs from the last seed seem to be fixed. It's only been 6 days since the last seed (8A414). I haven't played with this seed, yet.

That is great news, thanks for sharing.

Does iDisk work? Any comments or observations would be most welcome.

It's a huge download, and I have other things going on, so I haven't run it, yet. I *did* read the seed notes, however. Yes, iDisk syncing is supposedly fixed. As I said, the bugs listed in the last seed have all been fixed, at least it appears so from the latest seed notes.

Certainly good news for those that are predicting the 15th. I'm surprised that as a developer you are allowed to post this kind of information. Either way it's very welcomed.

It seems they are always "fixing" iDisk. What's up with that? I'd be so pissed if they didn't fix the column view preview bug.

That's why I *try* to give general info or say things like "supposedly". I never post the actual seed note. I try to provide helpful info, without giving away the farm. Who knows; I'm not a lawyer.

I personally doubt you really are a developer. Stating what actually is fixed in an update I think falls under the purview of the NDA.

It's really unimportant to me what you think. There's probably 15 links to the actual seed notes, if you look around. I just gave a general sense of the progress between seeds and answered a specific question about iDisk syncing.
