If you look at the pictures on 9to5mac it appears the back is now flush with the metal band. By going unibody and eliminating the large piece of glass on the back of the phone, they immediately save some thickness there. That alone would help the phone feel much thinner than the current (no longer class leading) 4s.

I was a slow convert to the iPhone. Coming from Blackberry to Android and then last fall to my first iPhone - I appreciate the industrial form factor. The slab is beautiful...better looking than our iPod Touch. Personally, I love these leaks and look forward to seeing the finished phone in September....4 months from now.

Give me LTE, 64GB (love my 64GB iPhone 4s), long battery life, thin and a beautiful display and I will buy one on release day.

My bad. I wasn't referring to you. I'm skeptical that these are final designs because they are un-Apple like to me. I have a hard time believing a product that looks like this will ever hit store shelves. Looks way too unfinished and not ready for prime time.

Haha no worries, sorry if I got a bit snappy. I agree with you, I think we will see a design very similar to this, but I think these are pre-production models.

Ahh, I love these rumors. Every year we have tons of people saying how hideous the design is, then it comes out and everyone loves it.

Seriously, learn to remember what you said last time.
The first photo 9to5Mac posted showed a white phone with black logo and lettering, and the lettering looked raised. The second photo has a gray logo and the lettering isn't complete. No way is this the final design.

remember when the iPhone 4 was first leaked, everyone was saying how the metal band with the asymmetrical seams design was un-Apple like and is totally faked? it's kinda like that again. i'm sure Apple changed the back to metal for durability and the top and bottom plastic or glass has to be for the LTE antenna. i think the pictures look quite legit.

Seriously, Apple? This design looks like crap. Hopefully this isn't near finished. Very unappealing!

But, it's iOS that should take the prize this summer, not necessarily a hardware redesign. Step it up guys!

I think so many people were buying the white iPhone 4s and iPad that apple decided to make the black look better than the white now. I still think these aren't the final design and this was a controlled leak though! Galaxy S3 release needs a distraction? Apple probably made this fake design intentionally to fool people and now they are hiding the real iPhone 5 design in their labs to create even more hysteria!!

There was a rumor that Apple's testing at least two prototypes in their labs. For me this seems to be one of those which they rejected.

So is this "tall" or not? Also, why the hell is the middle section of the back a different color than the rest? Isn't Apple going towards simplifying things, rather than adding colors and seams?
Yes, it appears taller.
Performing a perspective correction and scaling the home button round...

So the black phone will have a logo and lettering you can hardly see? What's Apple like about that?

I might have missed it, but I would love to know the dimensions of this case to see how much taller than the iPhone 4/s it is.

Also, this might be a pre-production unit as the holes for the grill look off from Apple's design aesthetic.

To those bitching about the separated panel on the back of the phone, it is clearly designed to be flush with both the front screen and the antennas.

The picture shows that the component separating the antennas is now a visible part of the exterior, and this is the same height on the device as the back panel and the front screen.

Front looks nice with the reduced bezel. Back looks strange, but I guess I don't care about how the back looks all that much.

If it is thinner and lighter and has a bigger screen size with the same aspect ratio, I'm in.

I refuse to believe that Apple's design team would release a new device with two tones on the back that do not go well together at all...unless Steve Jobs was truly the entire design 'team'.

Was that a two tone color or protective tape over the Apple logo and verbiage written on the back?

Speaker / Mic holes Suck

The speaker / mic holes look ugly, was it designed by the person who made dell adamo 13? looks exactly the same. two tone white glass / silver metal for white with body holes for speaker and black glass / onyx powder coated metal for black. dont want to own a dell esque apple product... but probably will.

First Impressions

1) Hope it's just a fake, so flippin ugly.

2) An attempt to grab attention, since Samsung announced release dates for the SGS III today.

3) Someone else designed it, J. Ive quit and Apple has kept it secret.

4) If it's real, at least I'm prepared, suddenly the SGS III I have pre-ordered looks even better...

I'll give Apple the benefit of the doubt and think positive, perhaps next years iPhone will be better :D
