You should pay up for anything over 4gigs you cheap asses. Forget that Apple doesn't allow you to use memory cards!

It's taken them until KitKat to secure the memory card, and now that it's secure people complain that it doesn't work. So would you rather have an insecure solution that leaks all your data or a more secure solution that doesn't but restricts you?

Apple has to do something to boost new iPad air sales (the current iPad Air has not been selling very well), and one way to do it is to introduce true multi-screen/task features with 2GB RAM.

That's the first step. The display is the second. iPad displays are starting to look positively drab next to other tablets. From leaked photos the Air 2 will have a laminated display and the iOS 8.1 reference to 3X assets suggests a denser ppi, so presumably the display will be similar to the 6+ in image quality. That catches the iPad up to current AMOLED displays.

Another issue I see is that Samsung tablets use oversaturated colors (way over 100% sRGB gamma). The oversaturation is killer in store displays under bright fluorescent lighting that washes out display color. At first users were stuck with those hideously gaudy displays, but now I believe there's an option for 100% sRGB. So basically Samsung have devised a showroom display mode "cheat" that makes their tablets look better in stores. To be fair, it also improves color in direct sunlight, so it's not totally useless.

LCD tech isn't sufficiently advanced for Apple to introduce their own showroom cheat mode. Thankfully, I don't see them doing it even if they could.

16 GB? Then sadly again no iPad for me. My Nexus must hold out for another while....

Putting aside the need to push more pixels on an Air, this move to 2GB is a rather revealing admission by Apple that 1GB has seen its day. The iPhone 6/+'s & previous iPads are going to be lacking this time next year when iOS 9 is released, if not already.

Once 2GB is confirmed, I'll be replacing my Air 1's with 2's. The financial hit will be better to suffer now than next year when 1GB doesn't cut it anymore. 1GB models might all be harder to unload once the lack of processor ram becomes an issue. Besides, since iOS 8, both my Airs already seem to show issues due to RAM limitations and wifi ac will make the new ones perform all the better.

It's has more to do with no sd and low amounts of memory. Like the 4s was fine back in the day with 16, but today it is a joke.

If only those stupid leakers would post PNGs or lossless images instead of taking compressed-beyond-all-recognition JPGs.

I only say stupid because if they really wanted to leak information, they shouldn't compress the images to the point where the information is useless or obscured.

Im not use why people won't want to buy these 16gb models. For the most part, the majority of people you see walking around with these devices mainly use it for social media more than productivity and will be more than enough for their needs.

There are a select few of us that will actually need or want the extra space, but all in all, there will be this option just because there are some people that just want to have the ipad/iphone regardless of storage.

Think about how many people you see out and about with their devices. Most are usually the younger crowd, and majority of them mainly need the storage for pictures, but even then they rarely fill up their phones.

Only us tech nerds will complain since i did order a 6+ 64GB model just because i like having the storage for all my movies and pics without really needing to upload to iCloud.

you can cry that the base model is still 16gb or be happy you get 64GB for the price of 32GB. your choice.

16GB? That's pathetic with the iPhone. Even worse for the iPad with it's potential for larger apps. I was hoping for a 256GB option. I guess that will have to wait for some sort of iPad Pro.

I feel like I have to post this every time this comes up.

For business providing iPads to its customers for mail/calendar etc, 16GB is MORE than enough. Hell, for my own mother 16GB is plenty enough.

Apple is in this for profit. If they can sell a 16GB iPad which IS usable to many people (just not you and me), then they will likely continue to do so until the price difference between 16GB and 32GB is MORE negligible.

That's only if they get rid of the 32GB option...remember the iPad has had 16GB through 128GB options (including 32GB) since the iPad 4. I'd bet they keep it around (wish they would have dropped the 16GB option).

Thank goodness they're going back to an upgraded CPU/GPU for the extra screen size (that was a mistake for the 5 IMHO). It's great they're going to 2GB...I hope we can use all of that in Safari if we want.

These are 2 points that show that the 16gb model will have its place and continue to be sold even with the 2% of users complaining about the need for more base storage. Apple even decided to double the following upgrad storage options and keep those price points the same with the iPhone 6/6+.

I wish I had a use for this

Sadly the iPad days for my family seem to be a distant memory. The iPad2 hasn't been used in so long it has a film of dust (somebody needs to clean). Even sadder, it still runs great. My wife has a Fire HD. My teenager no longer considers using it because everything in her life is secret so she is iPhone only. My 9 year old is participating in a pilot program with Chromebooks and she absolutely loves it. I stopped using it when I got my Nexus 7. I was hoping it would have had multi-user support by now and I could have justified a purchase. As of now, there's nothing compelling to warrant a purchase. Aside from my impending purchase of an iP6 for my teenager's birthday, Apple doesn't look to dipping in my wallet any time soon. Especially if there is no updated mac mini. That's the only thing I want (and really don't need ). My '11 MBA runs like a champ. My phone contract is up so I'm deciding between an M8, S5, or Note 4. ~sigh~ I guess there's one good thing. Iterative advances keep money in my wallet.

Ahahahahahahaha. What are you thinking? It's all personal preference.

For someone 16GB might be more than enough.
Until that someone wants to update iOS and finds out that he has to first delete apps and data to free enough space for the update process. And then manually load said apps and data back again. :apple:

A 16 gb iPad starts with around 13 gb of free space, the newer iPads and iOS versions with rather less than more. A major iOS update needs nearly 6 gb free space. I don't know if these 6 gb are on top or including the over 1 gb data being downloaded. Ouch!

Just to mention this: We did split screen multitasking on MS DOS and Amiga OS back in the 90th, with far less RAM and processing power.

Should have already done it mines been sold a month ago (ot good money for it. No way they could have released the new Airs with a measly 1GB of ram it's a legit complaint I'm sure apples heard loud and clear. Enough was enough.

But I thought we didn't need 2GB ram.

I don't care about it on a phone my 6 is fine. Now on the iPad it's VERY welcome actually why I sold my Air.

... or until the same person finds out that if the iDevice is plugged to iTunes there is no need to delete anything.

No excuse for 16GB on a phone.

Even less on a tablet! Hope this isn't true--but the iPhone 6 points to "yes."

16 is enough for some people. Not enough people to make it into a new product. (If some OLD models hang around at 16GB and reduced prices, that's another matter. Wrong choice for most people, but there are low-end users.)

I just hope the iPad Air 3 comes with the rounded glass design from the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus
