I do see your point. But the 16GB iPad and iPhone (as well as the storage challenged iPhone 5c at 8GB) are aimed at consumers who may not know any better. It's not as if Apple only offers 16GB iOS devices on their business site.
OMG, 2GB of RAM! I'll be able to do all these more things that I haven't been able to do until now!
ahahahahhaha, 16gb
what is apple thinking
Once 2GB is confirmed, I'll be replacing my Air 1's with 2's. The financial hit will be better to suffer now than next year when 1GB doesn't cut it anymore. 1GB models might all be harder to unload once the lack of processor ram becomes an issue. Besides, since iOS 8, both my Airs already seem to show issues due to RAM limitations and wifi ac will make the new ones perform all the better.

16GB iPad... is it still 2010?? Wake up! People will buy more apps and music if they have enough room for them. Just a thought.
16gb option still? That is most heinous.
Enterprise.
16GB is cheap and when you're purchasing in bulk, every penny matters. 16GB is enough for most business needs. Most employees would need just a few work specific apps and the native communication ones from Apple.
Err not really. First off the iPad simply needs more RAM to support the common use cases on that device. The higher resolution of the screens also have an Impact here.Personally the 2GB of RAM pisses me off more, because it's an acknowledgment that to run iOS 8 2 GB of RAM is optimal.
But they still only put 1 GB in the iphone, released a month ago, which makes the decision was made at the top to sell a device without the optimized RAM, when putting 2 GB of RAM instead of 1 would have been no trouble at all on Apple's part.
I get the impression that Apple Store employees are trained not to steer people but to let them make their own decisions. Some consumers who don't know better might buy these, but if they buy it at a physical store the clerk will probably steer them in the right way.
I see iPads used all over the places in businesses or in airports where they basically have nearly no Apps on them. Many are used for just sales systems, so they are running basically one App all the time. 16gb is fine in those cases and so should continue to be available as long as the OS doesn't take up too much room.
Sorry, not buying it.
It doesn't take much content on top of a base iOS install to not have enough room left to do an OTA update.
IMO, it's indefensible to still sell 16GB iPads and iPhones when the cost differential to 32GB is so small. Not because it's being cheap (which it is) but because it impacts the future experience of new iOS users.
Not needed since the iPad is a 2 handed device to begin with.
No sense of imagination here at all apparently. Here are a few ideas:There's nothing more u can do to an iPad.... Its has a Retina display,, your just making it more sharper, but it still does what it does....
Nope! It is just beginning to realize some of the potential of the platform and ever improving technology.Apart from Touch ID, its a finished product...
Well it is pretty simple really as highlighted above much can be done. Short term the best thing Apple can do is Improve system performance moving us beyond 1990s levels to something more impressive. This would allow for better functionality and get rid of the lags behavior that iPad has.How much more can u add to a product ? something that will make users eyes glee like Touch ID, but that's already there.
I say there is noting else, but bigger, slimmer and slightly better Retina display.... all of those are mere differences since we already have an iPad Air.
Yeah, like keep two tabs open in safari without reloading. THAT would be a welcomed change from where we find ourselves currently.
Count, I hope for your sake not only does the new iPad have the extra RAM but that it also it cures the safari ills you suffer from. Seriously!
I'm not upgrading anyway but more RAM is never a bad thing so I hope they do it.
