2GB is very welcome, the 16GB is kinda pathetic, especially when you drop the 32 and the next jump is 64.

2GB is all I wanted and assuming it goes 16/64/128, that suits me as well since 32GB turned out to be surprisingly limiting.

All it needs is Webm support and it won't be getting that. :(

Ahahahahahahaha. What are you thinking? It's all personal preference.

For someone 16GB might be more than enough.

Until the upgrade to iOS9 needing 8GB of free storage-space, or so.

People HAVE to connect their devices to add music from iTunes.

I don't understand. People, stop complaining, plug it into iTunes and shut up!!
So iOS is not unapologetically PC-free?

its not. maybe 2-3 games couple apps, thats it. no pictures, no music, no videos.

its not 16GB either, its really 12GB

One good thing is the 64GB upgrade will be cheaper, only $100 instead of $200.

but 16GB is ridiculous. it doesnt matter if it fits your needs, more the better. especially when its really 12GB.

but finally 2GB of ram, I'm assuming the 6S is going to get 2GB of ram as well.

Do users really need 16Gig ? now days..

I have iPad (4th gen) 16 Gig, and most of the apps i hardly ever use, unfortunately i would have got a 8Gig version if Apple offered it.

Most stuff is in the cloud now days anyway, which is why i switched to an ssd on Macbook Retina.... Too much space on a hard drive..

I only download apps i need there and them... not go on a complete rampage and get every singe app i could ever possibly, even remotely wanna use 1 % of the time..

So, anything above 16 Gig now is a totally waste for me.

Problem is, we all want huge capacity there and without having to hook up a cable to sync much, or multiple downloads..... if required or do anything at all.. lazy...

So iOS is not unapologetically PC-free?

It is, if you use it.... If you don't, then its not :)

I just looked up 32GB Flash USB on Amazon. It costs $15. Given that Apple already buys 16GB storage. I am only going to guess that the difference between installing 16GB storage and 32GB is a mere $5 extra.

So would you like to buy an 16GB iPad for $500 or 32GB iPad for $505 ?

This 16GB issue is getting ridiculous! No 32GB for the phone is insane enough. Just drop just a weak amount of space already and make 32GB entry level. By the time they FINALLY do that 32GB will be a joke.

Yeah, some may not even need 16GB which is not really the point because everyone should be able to get 32GB at 16GB's old price point. It's WAY past time.

It gets a bit silly when Apple is all about THE FUTURE aside from some hard drives, ram, some updates, memory etc... It's 2014, lets have the memory of 2009!

Of course they are NOT the only company to do this. However some have very small jumps in price to up the space.

https://www.macrumors.com/2014/10/13/ipad-air-2-a8x-2-gb-ram/

A fairly clear image of what is said to be the logic board for the second-generation iPad Air suggests that the device will indeed come with an A8X chip, as hinted at in earlier images shared over the weekend.

/snip/

A 1GB Elpida chip would have an "8" in the second character slot, while a 2GB chip would have an "A" in the same spot. Because of the quality of the image, it is difficult to say for certain what the character is, but it does appear to be an "A" rather than an "8" given that it is narrower at the top and wider at the bottom.

If I stare at that Elpida chip hard enough, I can see a pony!

I get the impression that Apple Store employees are trained not to steer people but to let them make their own decisions.

But they would at least in an iPad sale point out the relative merits between a 16gb and 64gb version. And now that the memory jump is larger and the $100 price is going to remain the same (we assume), this is an even more compelling jump. I would think an Apple Store person would want to give advice on this topic. Heck, I really in good conscious allow someone to buy a 16gb iPad without using a few sentences to outline its limitations.

That is why, I think, Apple's iOS sales this year are going to skew into the higher price bracket. I think the 64gb iPhone 6 is going to outsell the 16gb. And I suspect that this might be the case for this year's iPad sales.

Been wanting to update our iPad, just purely from a storage perspective (32GB 4th Gen), when we travel, it’s nice to have a few movies loaded locally (especially when we’re on a road trip to the north). 64GB at the price of 32GB will be sweet, and the additional icing on the cake of a couple of processors jumps (A6X -> A8X), lighter, thinner, TouchID (we use pass codes on all our devices), better battery[?], improved display tech? Yes please.

only if you have a diamond bit transducer.

It’s all ball bearings now.

its actually not....its BGA , ball grid array and are tiny balls of solder flowed on the board with flux.

no ball bearings in there.

Oh my goodness, please tell me this is a serious response that’s actually so serious it’s +meant+ as a joke since my comment was _clearly_ was (see the 1985 film Fletch)

(say it’s so, even if it isn’t :D )

You should! It’s very 80s-ish but it's Chevy Chase kind of at his film popularity peak, funny stuff, he’s an undercover reporter and at some point he’s in this airplane hanger disguised as a mechanic, and tells the other guys “It’s all ball bearing now” (they look at him, like I imagine you looked at my post :) )

A variation of this is “muffler bearings” often cited on car forums.

How did you upgrade to iOS 8? If you haven't you're in for a nice little surprise. :p

The main innovation is the 2GB of RAM

Assuming the 2GB RAM proves to be true, I'm going to order the maxed out model as soon as it's available online (either for pre-order or order). Having 2GB of RAM will open up so many opportunities to developers. It should fix the Safari reload issue and allow for split screen. To me, that's a huge improvement.

As for storage space, 16GB for the base model is a bit low I admit, but it's always possible to upgrade it. If the storage schema from the iPhone 6 applies to the upcoming iPad, then for a mere 200 $ extra, we'll be able to order a 128GB iPad.

I predict the iPad Air 2 (or whatever it's called) is going to be a massive success if Apple puts 2GB of RAM in it. For sure, people around the world will camp and line up to get it!
