Considering the bloat size of iOS, and for how long they've been charging a premium price for these RAM levels, the 32GB should have taken over the 16GB price point, and the 16GB shouldn't even exist as an option.

My prediction is that the ipad air 2 and mini 3 will come with 16gb 64gb and 128gb. they sell 16gb instead of 32gb just to force customer pick the 64gb and 128gb. damn apple greed

I had predicted that as soon as Apple puts 2GB of RAM, the forum will find another thing to complain about and the RAM issue will suddenly evaporate from the conscious of the forum, almost as if it never existed.

Looking at this thread, I feel like an oracle now. :D

(Having said all that I agree with the sentiment. 16GB is too low and 32GB should be the minimum. It's also hurting iOS upgrade cycle as we know)

I bet you would do the same if you are in the business to make money, probably worse.

As long as the people still think 16Gb is perfectly fine, and don't see that they're shelling 100$ more for peanuts in return I think Apple is going to milk on this idea as far as possible, I mean shareholders FTW.
The look on these peoples faces as they happily see 32Gb as a baseline version two years down the line should be noteworthy.

For all the complainers about the storage options

some people will never buy/need more than the 16GB option and so for them additional storage does not make sense but it will be extra cost for Apple. For those who used to used 16 GB,like me, but know that this is not enough and they are on the fence to get the bigger storage option or people who normally buy the bigger storage option, then this is a good news as it is an incentive to upgrade and now for a lower price point :D

Oh,

The people who complain about apple making money or upselling in this case. Why is it a bad thing? Apple is not charity company and if they make good amount of money they will be able to continue strong and create new products for us customers which on the long run will make us happy :D

Don't use me as an example, my company buys me iphones and ipads and it is their policy to get me the most expensive one  Seriously, it's dumb but I don't complain. 16GB is all I need for an iPad - I actually need more on the phone since I load it with apps and take lots of pics and videos...

I completely understand. I have a 16GB rMini, and it serves just fine. Although, my next iPad will be at least 32GB. Sometimes it would be nice to have the extra storage, I have to currently remove content to make room for other things, not to often though.

My thoughts.

1). The RAM upgrade, if true, is most welcome. I'm one who also is annoyed by tab reloads. Annoyed a lot. So if it comes with 2 gigs I'm buying.

2). 16 gig storage - I can see a use case for offering this. Many simply don't need much storage (my husband is one since he retired). Offering a cheaper model is an enticement for those folks to purchase. And as noted in other posts, businesses will prefer this option too if. They use their iPads for demos, etc.

If the next option is really 64 gigs for the same price 32 went for last year then this is a plus for a lot of consumers. I usually opted for the max storage but recently bought a SanDisk wifi gadget to store my movies etc. so I can get the 64 and save some money.

Same goes for phones. Neither my hisband nor myself stores much on our phones. Pics are auto uploaded to OneDrive, don't store music, just a few books and a couple of audiobooks. I could easily get by with 8 gigs.

All in all, 2 gigs of RAM, Touch ID, a bit thinner and lighter, better screen. If this is all true then I'm really stoked! I think I'll by one for me and also one for my husband rather than give him my hand-me-down Air.

Ahahahahahahaha. What are you thinking? It's all personal preference.

For someone 16GB might be more than enough.

I'm sure that someone wouldn't complain if Apple offers 32GB as minimum. It's profit milking nothing more.

Apple makes more profit by selling higher storage options. $100 extra for something that cost like $10 more to manufacture? Can't beat that.

I'm REALLY curious to see how the additional RAM will perform. Presumably, there are technical reasons as to why Apple decided to put in 2GB for the iPad and not the iPhone. We may not necessarily see the performance boost we expect with 2GB.

Although truth be told, the issue is still not that big of a deal to me ...

I don't want multitasking on an Ipad. Keep things simple. Stop trying to be like everyone else. Less is more and I hope apple sticks to this. I have a kick ass windows 7 machine, android phone, MBP and ipad. I like apple to get away from the craziness of other devices. I pick it up and expect it to always just work. iPad was designed as a media device and it should stay that way. You want multitasking you get a MBP or MBA.

iPads are extremely useless, unless they finally ditch turtle-speed ARM CPU and a freaking phone OS. Lol. Just get a iPhone 6+ to do the same noob functions.

Them's fightin' words on here! Here come an onslaught of loyal iPad users......

Yeah, because I always find using a 5.5" screen great for a bit of couch surfing. And watching a movie or two on a 15 hr flight, sure, the phone is just as good.
/sarc.

Come on, do you REALLY think the 6+ and the iPad are comparable devices???

Agreed I have iPhone 6 plus 64gb. My iPad only needs 16gb

Most enterprise customers only need 16 as well. If they drop the second tier at 64gb then that is the perfect option for those that need more

I agree with your logic.

Both my iPhone and iPad have 16 GB and I always face storage shortage on my iPhone, because of pictures and videos, and never on the iPad. My iPad has much more applications though.

These 2 devices need to be separated as I used to have the same applications on both but not any more. There are applications on the iPhone that I never use on the iPad and vice versa. I believe when people usage of technology increases they start taking the right decision on which storage option they need and not what they want r buying the cheapest option.

Well Folks , there you go .... Now you know what will be in iphone 6 and 6 Plus next year ..... A8X and 2GB ram.

No,

A9 for the CPU.

For the 2 GB ram that is probably required for split screen which is doable on iPad Air only. I even do not think the mini will get it either

2GB, thanks God!!!! I'm freaking fed up of having my Mini Retina crashing and reloading apps/tabs every hour! I cant believe Apple released the iPad Air and iPad Mini Retina with only 1GB - it's terrible to use due to the constant reloads/crashes.
