Beatles on iTunes and some kind of special Beatles 'i' product (Beatles iPod or iPad, probably iPod though).

Steve Jobs as the latest fifth Beatle?

When I first read the story I thought it was a bit silly, reminding me of the "Paul is Dead" type reading into Beatles images. If I were more inclined (and able) I'd maybe Photoshop Steve into the Sgt. Pepper's gatefold for a laugh.

Symbolically, I think it might be a boon to have the Beatles on iTunes. More so, I think it would be (also) symbolic of the CD's death rattle. Keeping in mind that The Beatles are central figures to the Boomer generation, who still largely control traditional media, yeah, it'd be a big deal. Again, symbolically.

Financially?

As someone who bought most of the remasters last year, no, I wouldn't be in the market to re-buy anything. However, I held off on the mono behemoth and if they were to sell those albums or tracks separately I would very likely cherry pick. I'm sure I'm not the only one. Would it do a lot for their sales? Well, if it were exclusive, my guess is yes. For a bit.

Still, if this is the big announcement, I think it's a bit silly. And unlikely.

But entertaining.

What I'm saying is that any hints that it could be the Beatles from the Apple site mean nothing.

I'm saying that while that may have been true in the past, the fact that this event IS about the Beatles points to this being intentional symbolism. The earlier events weren't about the Beatles, so any symbolism in those was likely just Steve's ego or general pop culture references.

Yawn....

Next rumor, please.

Yes this is for sure the Beatles coming to iTunes ... any announcement involving the Beatles EVER has always been huge worldwide news.

Tommorrow is just another Day in the Life of anything Beatles

What everyone has failed to notice is that The Beatles have been on iTunes for months now. Nobody cared.

Sarcasm... in case you missed it.

Kremlin

Reminds me of the day when we would look at pictures of from the Kremlin whenever there was an event like Mayday and interpret what was going on behind the scenes...

I would bet that zillions of people would download Fab Five music. Lots of people don't rip, etc. and would use iTunes. Also, lots of young people like them and don't have any big CD or record collection, so they would download.

Thanks ColinWil. You are the first person to reply to my post and most likely the only one that actually paid any attention to it. Everyone else here in this thread ignored my post and doesn't realize the Badfinger, Mary Hopkins and James Taylor Apple Apple/EMI connection to the Beatles catalog coming tomorrow. Most of the macrumors readers are too young to listen to someone that actually has been around long enough to know something.

...or maybe simply that they were just a little bit younger and Badfinger, Hopkin(s), Taylor produced music that their elder siblings listened to. Ha ha!

More seriously: people half my age seem to know much more about the Beatles' music than I do and musicians of a similar age cite them as an influence.

New format almost always seems to produce new sales.

Right on.

This is a big deal and many would covet the digital library rights - a big coup for Apple if they have finally pulled it off.

Some of these "Poo Boys" need to lighten up - its an advertising campaign and well worth a special emphasis.

The big news of the day has been Apple's iTunes-related announcement scheduled for tomorrow, and one of the rumors that has been gaining traction in the hours since the news broke is that Apple may finally have struck a deal to bring The Beatles to the iTunes Store. The report from Billboard hints at other reasons may finally be the day that The Beatles come to iTunes, although it is unable to share all of its information.

The rumor of course leads some to question whether such an announcement would be worthy of a hype-filled front-page teaser on Apple.com, but there is no special media event accompanying tomorrow's announcement, and it is unclear if any other news besides The Beatles would be included if it is indeed in the works.

On one final note, MacRumors yesterday did receive an unconfirmed tip that The Beatles would be coming to the iTunes Store on Wednesday, November 17th. Such unconfirmed rumors are not uncommon (although things have been relatively quiet with regards to The Beatles since the lead-up to Apple's September 1st music-focused media event) and this one included no details we could use to follow-up or verify, but perhaps is worth noting in light of today's events.

I'm going to be disappointed if it turns out to be The Beatles, which it's beginning to look like it will be. Not because I don't like them, I LOVE them, I bought the green USB apple with all of their stereo releases in FLAC format. As others have said, If you are really a Beatles fan, you already have all of their music.

At the same time, I understand why Apple is so hyped about this, if it is indeed The Beatles. They have been working on this for years. It will open up the boys music to many more people than before, and that's a great thing. It's just kind of anti-climactic for those of us who are true fans of both of the Apple "corps".

I'm still hoping for something more exciting. In 14 hours, the mystery will be over.

Zillions of people? I'll take the bet.

A very sad day indeed...

If it is the long-awaited Beatles announcement, this will be a very sad day for the Mac community.

For years now, Beatles on iTunes has been talked about before every single Apple announcement. It's been featured in countless lists for guesses about Apple announcements. It's looked for in the graphics of every invitation, every web graphic. The words of each press release are eagerly parsed looking for matches in song titles or lyrics.

What do we have to replace it that could possibly generate the same level of effort?
