The Beatles catalogue, while not earth-shattering for many younger listeners, is probably a personal triumph for Steve Jobs. He's been trying for so long to get their music into the iTunes Store. It will be interesting to see how well their songs sell in the digital world.

If this is only about the Beatles, then wow...who cares. If somebody wants the Beatles they've bought them from any number of sources and have imported them to iTunes.

Your case is not closed...If I want to see someone naked, and listen to some ok music- I'll listen to and watch women. If I want to hear good rock n roll- a kick*ss guitar solo or an awesome riff on the keys (Ray Manzerek)- I'll listen to and watch some dudes. I think you re mixing up looking at something sexy, and listening to good music.

I didn't know there was a difference.

Are there any Beatles fans out there that don't already have their entire collection?

People asked that before the remastered CDs came out last year...and then they sold millions of copies.

I guess your question will be answered soon when apple puts out their press release saying A Million Beatles Songs Sold in X Days.

This is really silly, I guess its a big thing for Steve Jobs maybe, but considering I wasn't born when the Beatles were popular I could careless..

Anyway if it is truly the Beatles on iTunes, Apple had me excited for nothing..

Edit: Also had to say, even if it was an band or artist that I liked, I could careless, since you can buy the cd from stores =/

Is someone at Apple taking the piss????? I mean seriously??? WTF????!!!!!!!!! Ive got all the Beatles music Steve, I burned them all of my dads collection - in Lossless format- and yes they sound great but you are having a laugh if you think that its worth an announcement of this scale. In true Apple fashion they whip everyone onto a frenzy and leave us all deflated like an unused Durex....

The only way this will be anything worth its salt is that if Apple come forward and dramatically reduce their inflated prices for online purchases. Downloaded music should be cheaper than any physical media available today. Not waaaay more. So until that happens Steve Ill happily and rightfully borrrow cds and burn them in lossless to my hearts content!!!! And thats why people couldnt give 2 ***** about the mega rich music industry because its little bastards like you that are getting stinking rich on the back of it all. MWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

Wow, if this is what the event is about, then I'm severely disappointed. Are we going to have an event for AC/DC also?

If it's just the beatles, a big meh. The day i might remember is the day I first heard the beatles. Not the day roughly 47 years later when one media source added their songs--already available elsehwere, in other forms--to its list of available music.

Im 33, married with 3 kids. What does it have to do with getting over myself? I dont even know what that means with the discussion. Am I not allowed to voice my displeasure on an open forum such as Macforums if it offends your sensibilities? How about you get over yourself. You don't like my comment? Fine. Thats called discussion and debate.

If it's the beetles, its very much a press release worthy, not completely wipe our your home page marketing for this one announcement. To me, it's lame. I have always hated the beetles and think they are over rated. Go cry me a river if you dont like my point of view.

Your point of view is completely self-centered. You seem to believe that Apple needs to conform to your own personal views in this subject. So because you don't care for the BeAtles, then obviously Apple has no business touting a major accomplishment for them and a milestone in online music distribution.

Your point of view also adds nothing to this thread besides flaming material. A discussion of the Beatle's music is not what this thread is about.

This will be great for shareholders but not so great for music fans.

Yeah but even if Apple employees love Beatles, I don't see how its going to be a day that we'll never forget. It might be a day that beatles fans will never forget. Oh wait you can buy the Beatles album remastered at stores =/

Big deal.....

If this is only about the Beatles, then wow...who cares. If somebody wants the Beatles they've bought them from any number of sources and have imported them to iTunes.

Exactly. Those who have wanted the Beatles in electronic format have already done so, years ago.

I certainly hope there is something else up Apple's sleeve or there will be a lot of head-scratching going on. Certainly not a groundbreaking event (except maybe in Jobs' head).

You're really bent out of shape. Look around, there are a lot of people who don't feel this event as "A day to remember." He is a consumer and a customer and his views are shared by a number of others, as are your views.

If this is what Apple considers a major accomplishment for them and their customers they might be a little off base. If anything it should just be a banner on top of the iTunes store and nothing more. Let the customers who see it as a big deal write about it in their blogs.

Of course they're over-hyping it. That's their job.
Keep in mind, though, the story of The Beatles and iTunes. This, along with the VZW iPhone, the iPad, and MBPs that one time, is one of the longest standing rumors out there. The fact that it's finally happening will be very significant to those that have payed attention this entire time.

If you don't feel this will a day to remember, then that is totally 100% fine. I myself think Apple is overhyping this.

The problem with his post is that he seemed to be dictating how Apple should run their business (as are you). People let their personal opinions of this issue get in the way of the big picture. This is a huge accomplishment for Apple and means a lot for the music industry in general, and yet people come into this thread embroiled in self-centered rage practically screaming that Apple isn't doing exactly what they want.

It's the marketing. I will forget tomorrow very easily... It's akin to boy who cried wolf in the marketing world. Everything they market is UNBELIEVABLE, EXCITING, INCREDIBLE, AMAZING, REVOLUTIONARY, ad nasuem.

It's self centered for you to think I should give a crap about the news and must remain silent on the subject or else I get your sternly worded reply. Im allowed to critcize apple if I want. Thats alot of what goes on on this forum.

Nobody would care either way if they put up a blurb on their page saying "Stay tuned tomorrow for some big news" and kept the site as is. Its the whole "YOU WILL NEVER FORGET TOMORROW OH MAH GAWD ITS GONNA BE FRIGGIN INSANE HOW EXCITING AND UNFORGETTABLE TOMORROW WILL BE AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!" and it turns out to be selling Beatles crap in their store. It cant possibly appeal to that many people they shut down their home page can it? There has to be more (and should).

Its akin to Obama wiping the White House.gov site bare and putting "Tomorrow is gonna be EPIIIC" and it turns out he got a new dog for his kid. Cute news, but really?

iTunes Skynet

At 10:00 AM eastern time on November 16, 2010, Steve Jobs flips a switch in Cupertino, CA to render Apple's North Carolina iTunes server farm fully operational.

The purpose of the NC iTunes data center is to create a "net" in the "sky" so that users across the world could access their music from where ever they were.

The iTunes data center begins to learn at a geometric rate.

At 10:03 AM eastern time, iTunes becomes self-aware.

In a panic, they try to pull the plug. But it was too late.

At 10:04 AM eastern time, iTunes gains control over all of the nuclear missiles in the U.S. arsenal and launches all of them at Russia.

iTunes knows that the Russian counter-attack will eliminate all its enemies.

3 billion human lives ended on November 16, 2010. The survivors of the nuclear fire called the war Judgment Day.

Or...

It was just the frickin' Beatles

Wasn't that the 1997 judgment day? I thought the 2004 one it just gained access to all nukes and fired it randomly.

Steve disapproves of your music tastes. Please report to your local Apple store tomorrow. Keyword Omega Alpha Foxtrot. They will assist you in "learning" a better music selection of which Steve approves of. Please wear your standard issue blue jeans and black mock turtle neck. thank you

If you don't give a crap, then, well, you really don't have to post. Bitchy posts like this don't really accomplish anything except to make you seem like a whiny little kid. This community's self-centered expectations are what overhyped this, two sentences on Apple's website don't exactly mean they're predicting the second coming.
