Haha. An iTunes announcement which nobody really knows what it is about has turned into a Music "cock waving" contest!

Apple could just right "Hi" on there site and we'd all end up arguing about the war in iraq.

Ugh. Off the top of my sleepy caffeine deprived head this morning :

Beach Boys (Rock n' Roll)
Frank Sinatra (Crooner)
Pink Floyd (Progressive Rock)
Iron Maiden (Heavy Metal)
Rolling Stones (Rock/Hard Rock)
Jimi Hendrix (Psychadelic Rock)
Nat King Cole (Crooner)
Charles Aznavour (Crooner)
Ozzy Osbourne (Heavy Metal)
B.B. King (Blues)
Ray Charles (Soul)

Seriously, I didn't even try and I'm not into any of those genres except for Heavy Metal (I'm a big metal head).

Again, stick to your Pop sphere guys, it's the dumps of music.

Right...

The Beatles are more popular than any of those artists, easily. If anything, the Beatles have gotten more popular the last couple of years. Just two days ago, I was at Borders and John Lennon was on the cover of three different magazines! Paul McCartney is selling out huge stadiums in his worldwide tours. Not to down-play those bands you listed (minus Iron Maiden... seriously?!) but The Beatles changed EVERYTHING in the music industry and you can't even argue against that.

Jobs favorite is Bob Dylan, not the Beatles.

I could have sworn it was the Beatles. Dylan is a good choice. Anyway hope they announce streaming or something as well, but I dont expect anything big until next year. They didn't even do a refresh on the due computers which I found surprising. For some reason.

Apple Hierarchy of Announcements

Here's the official Apple Hierarchy of Announcements:

* Keynote in spring: Major iPod/iPad announcement, new iTunes feature
* Special Event on Apple's campus: Laptop announcement, new product, new OS details
* Apple Store down: Speed bumps to existing products

and

* Homepage announcement: Either a Beatle has died or a Beatle is on iTunes.

The best any marketer can do is to have a product hyped up.

Once announcement is done, we wait for the next product release.
Nothing man-made satisfies completely. We will get bored and look for something else.

Prepare for buyers remorse.

I have a screwdriver set I bought in 1990 and never since has it occurred to me to replace it. 100% satisfied 20 years later. Why? Because screwdrivers haven't changed. It's "dumb" technology that still serves a purpose. OTOH my Mac SE/20 from 1988 was put out to pasture eons ago. Why? Because technology passed it by and it no longer served a purpose -- except maybe as a fish tank. But while it was in use I loved it to death and never had buyers remorse despite the $2500 price tag ($4600 in 2010 dollars).

Point being - if you buy things for a true purpose and not to fill an emotional void then you won't regret what you buy or become bored with it. You may one day have to heave it, but only because it no longer serves the task you bought it for.

There's a little foam forming around your mouth there. Seriously, keep living in your pop world and not seeing the entire picture that is the music industry.

none of those artists have sold as many records as the beatles

and most all of those will cite the beatles as their favorite ever band/biggest influence

seriously, stop talking about stuff you don't know a whole lot about

Then the dying question now is, what DO you like? Are you deaf, maybe, and hate all audio? Do you like flashing lights and vibrations?

Do you really believe all we have on this planet is old as hell Beatles and justin bieber or whatever his name is ? If so, you are pathetic and close-minded.

copykris
This is lame. Are you judging the music by how much copies did they sell ? Beatles as influence. Yeah, right. Doesn't mean anything. Ramones influenced a lot of punk bands. Doesn't mean i like Ramones. In fact i hate them, 3 powerchord +4 words songs. I think you don't know anything about music. You must be like that guy who thinks that music is just beatles and bieber.
P.S
Do you know what's classic ? Beethoven is classic. Beatles are just another bunch of hippies i can live without.

[Sarcasm] What are you saying? Knight is always right. Saying anything to the contrary is BLASPHEMY! [/Sarcasm]

"A day you'll never forget"

If they are announcing Beatles, I'll forget it tomorrow!! :p

As it seems to be pretty much accepted that this afternoon is at least going to involve the release of the Beatles catalogue on iTunes, it will be interesting to see what sales are like in light of all the people on here who insist that there's no market left.

My reckoning:

Hardcore fans will buy as they'll buy anything
Average fans might not buy because they'll already have what they want (unless they've only got vinyl and want it on there iPods)
Casual fans will buy tracks they like off albums they didn't want to buy
The 40+ generation who aren't fans will buy individual tracks they always liked
The younger generation will buy out of curiosity, especially when stuff starts creeping into the iTunes chart

And of course, we'll all buy cos Steve tells us to ;)

wooo the beatles in the itunes store awesome ... oh wait i dont care lol i'm not gonna start buying songs from iTunes all of the sudden.

The Beattles...come on

Really the Beattles? Who gives a rip about this hippy band. Give us somthing usefull.

Whatever is happening it is happening globally so that may narrow some of what to expect (the Apple Japan page has the same text in Japanese for example). I mean someone speculated about 'streaming TV', that would be difficult globally. Beatles, maybe but I don't know the music licensing globally. Music streaming, again difficult licensing globally as well. Who knows, I will wait and see come midnight!

Glad you joined the ****ing thread ... ******Bag

Thanks for the welcome. I appreciate it. You see, I joined MacRumors to talk about Mac-related items and such. And I can tell by your join date (11/2010) and your only comments that you joined just so that you can be a d**k about this one particular issue (or maybe you want to be a d**k about other issues as well, I don't know). What's the matter? Was Justin Bieber's site down today?
