It's slightly ironic (only slightly) that Steve is once again waiting for the CPU maker.

What's slightly ironic is Steve is waiting on Intel due to supply issues. I know these are new chips and all, but really. Even Intel, the chip supplier, the big kahuna, is unable to quench lowly Apple's appetite for high preformance yet cool running processors.

Wasn't a big reason we switched to Intel because their massive production capacity was supposed to end these sort of shortfalls?

That's why I think the whole story is a load of old bollocks.

Yeah, but at least Apple's delays now match those of the rest of the industry. Waiting three months for 0.3GHz won't be as hard to swallow when Dell and HP have the same problems.

I'm predicting Apple will do something for their 30th Anniversary. Think 20th Anniversary Mac, but more, um, conventional :). I'm not holding my breath for plasmas, still think the HD crowd needs to pull it's act together first.

The thing that convinces me is the observation about the keynote address. He went on forever about iLife and iWork that really was a lot of crap. I was disappointed with the keynote. He gave the impression that he was plugging holes at the last minute.

Good point. I think he was on iLife for almost a whole hour, going into every minutiae of each app. Considering most of them have merely been tweaked this seemed totally unnecessary to me at the time (as well as infuriating!).

For that reason this rumor seems plausible.

The "way cooler" announcement is that they were "only kidding" about the name "MacBook Pro." The reason you should wait is because early adopters are stuck with the name.

I do hope you are right

EDIT: sorry for the double post.

Maybe something else?

If you are not hoping for an XServe update (like me), how about something totally 'out of the blue?'

Maybe a 'Newton2' PDA that has iTunes?

Or like others have said, maybe a tablet based unit? If nothing else, I am betting that 2006 offers more product announcements than we have seen in a very long time....

my hope is that apple unveils humility

their last ad, though extremely artistic and beautifully shot, was a weird shot at intel and the pc industry, especially considering that many of steve jobs gorgeous pixar movies were made on intel farms.....it's a pretty insulting ad, and doesn't make a whole heap of sense in that apple is choosing to now use these chips...far better to show what you do great then say what some one else has supposedly done badly...

plus that moby song is too spiritual and movign in my opinion to be used to advertise computers, doesnt sit well with me, it should be used in an ad for world peace

you should see the new ad here for the Liberal party, saying that the Conservatives would create a police state and deploy the military in all Canadian cities. pfft the Apple ad is nothing ;)

though I found the narrator's voice kind of condescending towards the end... "inside a Mac, how cute"

yeah. I keep hoping I'll wake up and find the name was all just a bad dream.

He gave the impression that he was plugging holes at the last minute. I am sure there is a lot more cool stuff to come. Otherwise Apple is in deep trouble. All the hype to have only two computers that really aren't much of a revolution- there needs to be more.

You might be right about "plugging holes" if some other product couldn't be demonstrated in time...

But to say that "Apple's in deep trouble" is pure BS. It's shares have never been higher, and all analysts agreed that it was a GREAT keynote for the beginning of the year. What matters is that Apple is well ahead schedule for the Intel transition, and already introduced TWO winner products which no other PC can compete with...the iMac and the MacBook.

Obviously there has to be a change in the 12" and 17" lines as well, along with some blablabla-media center thing...but Apple did a wise move to satisfy some of our most urgent desires, a lightning-fast notebook with all the perks...Apple is on the right track, believe me.

No, that was NOT the case; if it were, Jobs would have spent some time for the iWork presentation as well, in which he skipped all main features.

iLife IS an important component of Apple's strategy, and iLife '06 was a major overhaul, believe it or not, especially now that it's integrated into .Mac even more.

This is by far the most rumory MacRumor I've read so far...

Perhaps it's an iPod with a core duo chip!!1

I think this rumor is absolutly true - intel has supply issues cause every notebook producer wants this new dualcores in their notebooks - so it's not apple alone wanting this chip. furthermore it's produced in 65nm technic - also new stuff and they have to ramp up production - but as they are a really big fish they won't have mayor difficulties in doing this.

look at this article to see also other notebook producers have supply issues with the dual core... http://www.anandtech.com/mobile/showdoc.aspx?i=2663&p=14

Bs

plasma tv rumor..and this much cooler rumor are very similar stories....must be the same guy...

I think the new MacBooks are somewhat dissapointing really...

I bet that there is someone out there who was tired waiting for the Intel books and opened his G4 PB... put in a Dual Core Intel processor and while he was at it an infrared sensor for his hacked version of FrontRow I can hear him think:

"Well... it's a bit sloppy and it looks somewhat cheap, but I can honestly say I got the first Intel PowerBook..."

Only to find out that the just released MacBooks are identical to his... exept they have a dull name, an iSight non of the pro users were asking for and less pixels in height on the screen! So now all of the sudden he has created a cooler PowerBook than Apple's awardwinning designteam came up with!

What I mean is that the new MacBook look like they had a few cases lying around, shaved a mm off to say "It's a hair thinnes..." drilled in some holes, looked at the monster and thought; "My goodness, we've really outdone ourselves this time! The design is flawless!"

That comebined with the statement from the newest "secret source" to not buy the MacBook makes me think they really wanted to hurry so that they could show what a fast computer they've build.
I can't believe that it took the PowerBook designteam 3 years to come up with exactly the same design as the PB G4... except uglier!

I hope better times will be here soon.
p.s. the insulting, ridiculous new ad, that was thriving purely on te good looks of the image appears to be copied exactly from some bands music video.
Seems like Redmond doesn't have to start it's copiers... Cupertino allready did!

I do not necessarily believe this rumour but I have been feeling a little uncomfortable with my rushed order. This is just one more thing that makes me think I should be a little more patient. I have therefore cancelled my order

I think perhaps the wording on the blog was misleading- I wouldn't think Intel had a shortage of Core Duo chips, but perhaps the kind (EFI) for Apple, or better yet, perhaps just some delay in the design of the smaller and bigger boards (for the 12 and 17-inch models).

<sarcasm>Or, it could just be that Intel wants Apple to feel like business as usual and is holding out on them. You know, the transition is tough, they want them to feel comfortable working with a chip supplier who can't meet demand.</sarcasm>

Regards,
Gus

Did you read about the lawsuit in PC World a couple of months ago?
(Only if you live in Australia)
No, sorry I don't read PC World. With google, is the quoted article from June the one you are talking about?
PC World said:
June: AMD sues Intel for antitrust violations. AMD filed an antitrust lawsuit and launched a spirited public-relations campaign against Intel, accusing the larger company of authoring contracts with PC vendors that tied the selective distribution of rebates on processor purchases to quotas on purchases of AMD's chips. Intel has forcefully denied those charges, and promises a fight in a Delaware courtroom that could come as early as the end of next year and involve PC industry luminaries such as Michael Dell, Fiorina, and Gateway Inc. founder Ted Waitt.

Click the button.

Stop waiting, just click the button. This guy reckon's Intel can't deliver enough chips? INTEL?!?! These guys aren't small fish, they're the biggest bloody shark in the ocean, even their scrap chips would be more than enough to supply the whole year's supply of Macs.

I think there was going to be more stuff but it was going to be more consumer electronics.

Click the button man, just click the button.
I guess I should...now I just gotta wait for Mom and Dad to decide the best way to pay. At least I'll be very happy with the iMac, sure beats this 867mhz PowerBook ;) Intel here I come!! :D

Merom MacBook

The name doesn't bother me so much, although PowerBook was probably better. I had placed an order for a MacBook Pro 1.83, but after doing a lot of reading and comparison shopping, I canceled it. I don't think it is unreasonable to want the same specs as the PBG4, primarily the SD. It should have been 8X at least, and DL would be nice, but at least 8X.

Also, I decided I don't want a built-in iSight. I would much rather have the pixels. Competing DuoCore PC notebooks look to have the same camera in them, but it pans, too.

Basically, I have all the same concerns as many others.

So now I am waiting for a Merom MacBook. The new MacBook Pros are great, but not quite for me for $2499.

That the bad thing on living in The Netherlands... the thing costs €2700,- euro's here... well over $3000,-!

plasma displays

For all of you so turned on by the possibility of plasma displays, I hope to God you are wrong. Plasma technology is old and busted. Plasma technology truly sucks and I shudder to think that Apple might put their moniker on such an inferior product.

Think Celeron's in your coveted "*Books". The horror... <img src="Marlon Brando.jpeg">

chips below 2.0

on the limited duos

why is it that Apple has chips that are below 2.0 and other compnaines like acer have the 2.1 chips? could someone comment on this:confused:
