please make it a Mac mini! SJ did say "see you soon" at the end of the keynote, but I can't help but feel this is wishful think by people disappointed at the new offerings.

Yeah, but why would you quote the price without tax? You still have to pay it do you not? I know you guys have different taxes from house to house but here the tax is included in the price of everything. I'm simply quoting the price we all have to pay here. I can't make any more direct comparisons cause you guys don't list the full price of the systems.

Huh? The USA prices are ex-tax 'cos tax varies from state to state. You seem to be saying you know that. So, you can't then compare a USA price that is ex-tax to an Australian price that you know is inc tax (and the Aus store even shows you the ex tax and inc tax figures).

No, and neither does Apple. It's one chip with two processors. From apple.com This is the first Mac notebook built upon the revolutionary new Intel Core Duo — which is actually two processors (up to 1.83GHz) engineered onto a single chip.

Then again, the employee seemed to despise iPods. I notice a lot of Fry's employees peddling Creatives which they have displayed much better.

i have noticed this as well...i tell people to get ipods when i am in the mp3 area.

anyways i just want a 12 inch intel mac

For whoever that says the 2GHz Dell is shipping now: 2GHz is a $200 option. Also, don't forget that MacBook Pro is a dual duo processor laptop. Does that Dell laptop have 2 duo processors inside? .

I think you're mistaken. The processor is dual core on a single chip. Not (2) dual core chips. And the Dell and MacBook both ship in Feb.

I don't think so...becasue in all the other places..Steves dock and other pics the iMove icon for 05 and 06 is the same ;)

Hmmm... so I see. :)

Maybe the icons are different because Frontrow is linked to iTunes and iPhoto in so much as Frontrow accesses what is in your iTunes and iPhoto library (doesn't it?) whereas the DVD and Video capability is not tied in to iDVD and iMovie?

Could just be an innocent tweak to the Frontrow UI I suppose.

Centrino? You mean Celeron?

Centrino is a chip-set comprising the processor, embedded wireless, memory controller and stuff. Celeron is a crippled Pentium chip.

yes, i probably DO mean that.

thanks

Or like others have said, maybe a tablet based unit? If nothing else, I am betting that 2006 offers more product announcements than we have seen in a very long time....

And this is why 2007 will be THE time to buy.

How about a Mighty Mouse BT??

Or higher resolution 20" Apple Cinema Displays? (maybe HD?)

Or how about a new 15.4 macbook pro with FW800 and external SATA instead of the damn iSight and IR remote??

So i think there is no way this is true. It's always some supplier that's at fault for something like this. If apple had some "cool" product, they would have announced it. Intel has never had supply issues like what's implied in this article.

Apple would have only announced such "cool" products when they were fully completed and ready for market. Sounds like Apple may still be at the drawing board, nearing completion in a few products that have not been disclosed. I feel the MacBook Pro is a rushed to market product, it has left a lot of questions on the table in terms of battery life, absence of FW800, dual layer SuperDrive, and S-Video out. Why the case has not been altered in any way, and what are the comparisons bettween the 2 models? And why has the price not been lowered considering the older G4-based system has much more to offer in terms of features?

I feel Apple is going to release a revision to the MacBook Pro very soon, if not immediatlly. When you compare features from that of the PowerBook G4 15", the older has more to offer and yes, it is slower, but what is speed when you have less hardware for which to use it with?

Oh... I guess I heard it wrong when I was watching the MWSF webcast. My mistake. But yea, maybe that's just way too cool to be true... :(

Give Me A Break

Come on people. I can't believe some off the threads I am reading. Plasma TV's I don't think so. Won't buy a computer now because of what an unidentified source has posted. This is the year for the notebooks, imac and mini to transition to Intel chips. Yes I believe this first release was just minimal. I believe their could have been supply issues; it is a brand new chip. It has been historical that it even takes Intel some time to mass produce chips. I would say in the next month or so you may see some other products have the Intel Duo Core chip in them ie ibook, mac mini and revised/update macbook pro's (15",17").
The only product that I think they may annouce that is totally new is a tablet. All I can say that if what they offer now meets your needs and your budget, go ahead with your purchase; they are always going to have something new come out in the next week, month and year; it is enevitable. I think what Apple is doing is great. They are really pushing the pencil towards innovation in the computing industry. Both Macintosh and Window users will benefit. That's my two cents worth.

Anyone seen this: http://global.acer.com/products/notebook/tm8200.htm

There's a comparison of the new Acer Travelmate 8200 and the new MacBook Pro on this site (scroll down):
http://www.tnl.net/blog/entry/MacBook_Pro_Comparison_Charts

Now, whatever Apple still has in it's sleeves, it better beat the 8200. Because most probably, the 8200 is the fastest notebook ever, not the MacBook Pro. And it has much more connections (4x USB2...). And it's even much cheaper than the 1.87GHz MacBook Pro.
Come on Apple, give us the fastest possible for a reasonable price !!!! The times are over when we were able to say "But a G5 at 2GHz beats a P4 at 3.2GHz...". Now PCs and Macs can be compared directly. No more excuses...

All I've been reading since MWSF is people bitching about the new Intel MacBooks that they needed so bad a week ago. All the people that won't shut up about the name change would have been upset even if they were still called Powerbooks. They would say something like, "the geniuses at Apple couldn't even think of a new name for their Intel laptops, how lame....." And if they would have changed the design everyone would have been outraged: "Why did they mess with such a great design??!?!?!?!" "The old design is SO much better, why'd they change it" "new pBooks = teh suck!*" etc, etc... Just be happy with what we got.

*that one was added just for fun.

The MacBookPro is, BY FAR, the fastest, nicest and most stable notebook on Earth.
Fastest? Faster than the 2GHz Dell Inspiron 9400? How does Apple do that?

Nicest? I think the 3.5 lb Core Duo Thinkpad X60 is pretty sweet - the MBP is kind of a behemoth compared to that.
IMG2305_MKT_IMG_FILENAME_1.gif

Most stable? It isn't even available yet! How can you have statistics on failure and crash rates. It could be a hopeless piece of crap, for all you know. (Rev A, that kind of stuff...)

Mr. Lawyer, you are very long on opinion but short on facts.

Yup, we're getting hit pretty hard here too.

1.67GHz MacBook Pro = AUD$3199 = US$2401.50 = €2030
1.83GHz MacBook Pro = AUD$3999 = US$3002.50 = €2537

They're still cheaper than they are here in the UK: AUD$3199 = GBP1365. The 1.67GHz model would cost me GBP1429 (GBP1216 + GBP213 VAT) if I bought it in the UK. We're paying 17.5% in tax, you're only paying 10%. Your price without tax is more than ours, so Apple Australia are ripping you off, and our government is ripping us off ;)

My gf is Australian and is heading back there next week for a short while. Unfortunately the MacBook won't be available until after she gets back here otherwise she could get me one and then claim the GST back saving me nearly GBP200!

did you see that 60 minutes report about the new sony ceo. They basically said that Apple already one upped sony.

Maybe 2006 is the year that Apple tries to one up Sony, and become the new consumer electronic giant over the next two years. The iPod has replaced the Walkman...

ah yes, the mythical Mac Tablet. What is it exactly that a small minority of people think a Tablet can do that say a 12" laptop can't? Hang on, I know. UPS (the Brown company) has probably the best tablet device the world! That thing rocks. It is extremely useful! Now only if I can play Solitaire on that thing:D .

Just teasing,

Mr. Lawyer said "(please don't come with Acer or those behemoths from Alienware)..." in his post, so I didn't.

But of course, the Acer would be faster than the Dell and much faster than the Apple.
