Much Cooler sounds cool.
Can't wait.
(hopefully it doesn't just mean cooler temperature, like a centrino iBook or something...):D

Centrino? You mean Celeron?

Centrino is a chip-set comprising the processor, embedded wireless, memory controller and stuff. Celeron is a crippled Pentium chip.

The MacBookPro is, BY FAR, the fastest, nicest and most stable notebook on Earth (please don't come with Acer or those behemoths from Alienware)...

Right....the "fastest BY FAR"? Sorry its a new world now. PC's may suck, and may be "behemoths", but we *will* be able to compare speeds. For instance, Dell is shipping a laptop with a 2 GHz Core Duo processor *right now*, so we know the MacBook isn't the fastest, even before it ships. Apple will have to sell on its OS and other features, size, etc. But don't make any speed claims. It will be interesting to see how the different OS's effect performance, however...

Also, most software on these MacBooks won't even be native x86...will there still be any speed increase when using Rosetta? A speed decrease? What can someone expect to see in the real world before new software is avaliable? I think I'll pass on the first gen of MacBooks.

Any guesses when we'll hear something new

Wait, you say you're desperately awaiting a 15" Yonah Mac laptop and yet you have cancelled your order for a MacBook Pro which is a 15" Yonah Mac laptop??

That's just weird. If you want it, buy it. Don't pissfart about waiting for something that may or may not exist. I doubt they'll do anything to the MacBook Pro line soon - it has been a whole 2 days now, are we getting a bit too demanding for updates now or what?

More to come ....

Of course there is more to come from Apple. In the UK I cannot believe the amount of news coverage they have had for a pretty tiny series of announcements!
Jobs probably majored on the iLife and iWork suite of software since he knew he would get this sort of coverage and he wants the world to see the Mac software and how easy it is to use. The additional macs were there to keep us happy. After all the share price showed stockholders were pleased with the announcements.
The sensible thing for Apple to do now is produce a series of mini releases just as stockholders and possible purchasers are beginning to get tired of the current offering and this will pick up media interest again and give a whole bundle of free advertising. Therefore expect the iPod shuffle to be revamped shortly (the 1GB is out of stock currently anyway!). A media centre, I think will come out later in the year ( and this has to be based on the mini- other screens are too small and it makes sense to use a small unobtrusive box) but around the summer time-autumn to pick up the holiday purchases.

The only questions I had was why was there a second imac on the podium? Was there a danger of reliability?

Wired's Cult of Mac blog offers some uncharacteristic tidbits from a knowledgable friend who is only attributed as an "anonymous source".

This source claims that the Steve Jobs keynote that was delivered was not the actual keynote originally planned. As noted before, Steve Jobs prepares for weeks prior to the actual event.

Instead, the claim is that "some very, very cool stuff" was eliminated because of supply issues. The blame is laid on the Core Duo chips. When asked if the products were simply 12" and 17" MacBooks, the source claimed the unreleased products are "much cooler".

The reliability of this source is unknown so it should be taken with significant uncertainty. It is only posted on Page 1 due to prominence of the blog which will likely generate a significant amount of discussion.

I'll bet it's some sort of music player to complete with iRiver, Sony, and Toshiba.

Pfft. Yeah right!!

There's no money in this whole "digital portable music" thing. Nothing can beat a CD and a good discman....

If that blog has any truth to it I wouldn't be thinking plasma tv..

From the blog :
"He also said that if he were me, he probably wouldn't order one of the new MacBook Pros."

discuss..

Yup. I was thinking the same thing. Sounds like maybe a tablet done right. I'd love something like that.

Are you forgetting those were *rumours*.

Until Apple confirms, its not going to happen!

I think it's the new Mini that was left behind... It was said everywere that a new mini was coming, and we saw nothing...

Let's wait and see...

I see all the Windows fanboys are out or all the Power PC 4-EVAH folks are out because there sure is a lot of negativity here.

I would think after many years of outlandish rumor predictions and crazy products that never came to be people would quit getting so disappointed/pissed off/whiney over some hot made up product that never came out.

My predictions are the iBook line will get Celeron Duo or whatever they'll name that as will the Mac Mini (much to the bitching and moaning of everyone here) with some front row features. I'd love to see

I'm going to hold out hope that PowerMac updates won't come until late in the year when the 2nd generation of the Xeon line's dual core processor gets here at that new power level instead of the really hot Xeon Dual core line that is out now. That would facillitate a new PowerMac (MacDesk Pro?) case design, otherwise they're gonna get louder and need more watercooling for about six to eight months if Woodcrest keeps its timeline.

I'm excited, I've been hovering over the buy button on an iMac Core Duo because of my Rev A getting slower as I continue to process photos on it.

Time will tell.

IMHO - a mac mini for the living room, complete with remote and front row.
It'll be the "TIVO-killer" that will also incorporate an updated Airport, to work with your other mac. Perhaps an integrated iPod dock?

It makes sense that it would need its own red-curtain keynote.
Its enough of a departure to warrant a special event.

Unless I am remembering falsely there are always 2 machines. Faith in your product is one thing, no contigency in a major even is just stupid.

I sold my iBook in August, to wait for an updated 12" PowerBook. They never came, and the updated 15" PowerBook was just not worth the money (especially when the screen issue became known). So I became angry and didn't know what to do, I didn't want to buy another iBook. Then I stopped caring and got a Nintendo DS to keep me busy.

Now that January came, I was quite excited again. "I hope they'll release a Yonah-based PowerBook, or iBook if they're any good." So I check MacRumors.com during they keynote, and I see they've released a "MacBook Pro". I became even more excited (even though I find the name ugly, but I'll probably get used to it soon), since there where a lot of rumors about an updated iBook. Then I see it's the same design when they put up pictures on Apple's website. "Oh well, I do like the design and the keyboard, it might be a good after all."

Then I start to read the specs. First thing I notice is no battery life is presented. I didn't really care, they'll probably just need to test it a little longer (why they would need to do that). I also read some posts which were upset about it not having FW800, but I don't care, I've never even used FW400, though it might be good to have when (if) I get an external harddrive. The PCMCIA-slot was replaced with an Expresscard slot. Seems good, "looking out for the future" as some of you like to put it. S-video is gone, might not be that big of a deal, but it's very cheap of Apple not to include an adapter. Really cheap. But the thing that I did care about, the SuperDrive, was now reduced to half the speed, and no longer supporting dual-layer, which made me seriously doubt if I wanted this computer. I know dual-layer discs are expensive right now, but that might change (aren't you all saying that Apple is looking out for the future?), and not being able to write faster than 4x seriously sucks. And I do have to agree with a lot of you who are saying it's lacking ports, it sure is. I would really like 4 USB ports (which isn't comparable to 127 USB ports, if that's what you think). Yes I can use a hub, but it's bothersome. It's not like there's no real estate on the MacBook Pro where you could put them.

So what do I do? I'll probably just wait even longer. I don't want to wait, but I don't need the computer either. I want it. Without it, I feel it's harder to communicate with people (checking webmail vs. having a mail client configured, having IM run constantly and not just when I'm at some random computer), and I also want to learn more about programming (having a computer to write code and test stuff on). I hate waiting, but at least Nintendo is making awesome stuff.

Last time…

When was the last time a MacWorld Keynote was only an hour and a half?

He axed the iWork demo, and the iDVD demo for "the sake of time" and the thing was still only an hour and a half. His MacWorld Keynotes have been getting longer and longer, not shorter and shorter.

And he included what was clearly a last minute Aperture demo because of the announcement of LightRoom. And it was still only 1.5 hours.

But who knows?

David

Something Cooler?

that probably is something other than notebooks....all notebooks are pretty much same as far as wow factor goes. 12 or 17 inch cannot be much cooler than 15 inch notebook.

if that rumor is true, maybe it could be

1. that plasma TV with built-in Intel chip, or
2. that boombox with built-in ipod dock

it could also be a major update to airport express.

by the way, why da heck are they still charging $200 for airport base?

I've told myself to no longer get hyped by the rumor sites and I am standing by that decision.

But I have to say... this does excite me! :D

The icons Front Row uses are the ones used by the iLife apps so I'm guessing that the new iMovie has a different icon in iLife 06.

Um I just got iLife 06 today and the icon for iMovie is EXACTLY the SAME as before. That image is also on the US site as well. Hmm can't fugure that one out??? Has anyone seen front row running on the new iMacs? maybe it is already like that...

I really hope there is another announcemet soon.... then I can stay up all night again watching lol.
