The only two Apple Watches that remain virtually nowhere to be seen are the 38mm and 42mm Space Black with Link Bracelet models,
Ouch! Prior to 4/10 I was still undecided on which model to order. I first thought 42 SG BSB, but saw everyone flocking there. I then had a period of YOLO, and saw the 42 mm SB as a safe haven for not being sold out as quickly before calming down and getting a 42 classic buckle. I wonder how many people got caught up in that mind set only to have it backfire on them.

My estimated time to order one: Never

I feel, even the most ardent Apple Fan, must, in some tiny way, admit, even if they love their watch, that, given the currently growing list of issues, both in hardware and software.

Whilst it's fun, and great to be an early adopter, and of course, it's nice to have something "for the ride"

There, especially as we keep hearing new things cropping up, is a lot to be said for those posters here, who said, they will wait for v2, so that all the bugs and faults will get sorted out.

I will be honest, and say, of all the 1st gen Apple products I've watched launch, this one, is looking to be the worst item of all, in terms of what will be fixed in v2.

Of course, v2, may not be THAT much of a change, it may be more of a 1s model, but there really do seem to be aspects cropping up all over the place that Apple will make sure get fixed, when they update the model, perhaps next year.

Last night it was still June.

So exactly on May 1st, shipping estimates change from June to July.

I'm betting they just hardcoded the estimate to say the month after next, because they have no idea how many they'll be able to make.

Yes -- this is a non-story. MR pulls this silly stunt all the time, like with the new Mac Pro launch.

It's annoying because I actually got nervous thinking my estimated June SS order had been delayed to July, but thankfully it hasn't. That would have been a story, not "It's May 1 so Apple's ecommerce engine now displays July".

Edit, sorry, that's not fair of me. I missed the middle paragraph where they offer the correct analysis as a possibility. Still probably not newsworthy, however.

1st Gen Apple TV was certainly lackluster ;-)

The negative things are making the headlines... but if you go into the Apple Watch forums people are loving this thing. It's not for everyone and out of the couple of million that have shipped so far a few are having issues... but don't just go by the headlines to say that it's a failed launch.

I'm personally a bit disappointed in having to wait for mine: but I've already got a huge list of use-cases that I can't wait to satisfy with the watch!

Yeah, gosh... worrying about human rights is so much less important than a slight manufacturing hiccup that will be resolved in the next few weeks. Plus, they are clearly connected.

/get some perspective

Human rights? Is that a joke.

Where is Tim Cook on abuses in China? Saudi Arabia? Places all over the globe where Apple does business where you can be thrown in jail or executed for being gay?

Oddly, your article neglected to mention that 2 additional models, the Stainless Steel version of the Link bracelet (in 38mm and 42mm), have yet to ship to any customers either - NOT just the Space Black versions!!!

Check out this thread for confirmation...

Still no sign of my space gray 42 mm sport

My order for a 42 mm, space gray sport with black band went in at 2:11 am Central - 11 minutes after orders opened.

My shipping estimate then and now is May 13-27.

I have to disagree with this. Apple set a precendent themselves, that if you ordered within the first hour, you got your product on launch day.

They also said April 24th was launch day. Never said 4/25-May. This was after the fact, after a few months of proudly touting 24th.

Apple drop the ball, severely. its no big deal in the grand scheme of things. But this launch was a disaster. If samsung did this, this board would be through the roof

If Samsung did this, it would hopefully be posted on some other board somewhere else. If Samsung sold 2 million smartwatches and couldn't meet the demand I'd be in complete shock that they sold 2 million smartwatches.

So you think a US corporation can change the religious ideology of a foreign country?

I just wonder how hard it's going to be to resell these things when you want to upgrade to the new ones. I can't see it being as easy as selling your old iPhones. This is another thing that has pushed me away from purchasing one.

It depends on how much better the next watch is. From what I can tell, the primary issue the watch has is battery life, and batteries don't follow Moore's law. In fact, they get better at about 10% the pace of processors.

In addition, the Apple watch actually has good performance specs. It basically has the same processor and memory as an Apple TV. It's essentially based on the A5 processor, with 512 MB of RAM and 8 GB of memory. That means it's somewhat similar to an iPad 2 with a processor removed. It's down-clocked to save battery life and heat generation, though.

Basically, what I saying is that the watch's like primary limitation right now revolves around power usage. Newer processors tend to be more power efficient, so there is that element, but I think that that improvements are going to be slower than for iPhones and iPads.

When I ordered pretty much as soon as orders opened the quote was for 24th April to 8th May. I got it in that window. Some people got it on the 24th - I didn't, but I did get it in the quoted window. I'm happy - Apple delivered exactly as they promised.

That's how it is for every product, new iPhones are usually back ordered for weeks after launch too, and you might not get it on launch day unless you're lucky. Nothing new for a high demand Apple product.

Since when was this precedent set? As far as I know there has never been a 1 hour window for for launch day delivery - that's crazy, and if Apple ever promised that I'm stunned.

I can't see how they dropped the ball at all. As far as I know everyone is due to get their watch within the quoted delivery time frame. If people start being delayed after that passes sure, be upset. But before they clicked buy they were given the dates and the option to back out? I haven't really been following that closely but it seems most who ordered early were quoted up to the 8th of May.

There are 3 watches in the collection, with 2 sizes in each, and various colours, with numerous straps. All customisable. These things are assembled in one part of the world, and sold over. Different payment methods/authorising banks for good measure. Estimates say pre-orders were over 2 million. Can you even begin to imagine the logistics? It blows my mind. And seeing as you care about Samsung - they're struggling with demand too: http://www.theguardian.com/technolo...-edge-faces-shortages-demand-outstrips-supply

i beg to disagree. when i ordered the watch, i was obviously aware of the pre-order, but no window of delivery was posted, until after the confirming order email was sent. I was originally hoping to order and pick up at store. i would have gladly waited the 2 weeks for a store pick up.
but having people who pony up for the higher priced model sit with their thumbs up their rear-ends, while the cheap-o model get distributed strikes me as wrong. I think that Angela Ahrendts blew the entire roll out into any un-apple format style.
IMHO

I am sorry for all those still waiting and those who have long wait times, don't worry it is definitely worth the wait. Got my 38mm SG this morning and it is amazing! I am glad I watched all those 'unboxing' videos and 'how to' videos as it took me just a few mins to unbox and set up and start using Apple Watch. It now feels like I've had the watch for days. :D:D:D

I wonder how many people are like me and are close to cancelling the order or have already have cancelled it because of the unexpected wait time for an Apple product that typically is delivered on the release date.

I expect: few indeed.

If you want it badly enough that you ordered it the first day of orders (if not first few minutes), seems odd to suddenly snap to the other extreme and willingly cancel, pushing ownership back 6-12 months or to AW2 or even give up on the product line entirely for at least years to come.

I understand the frustration of delayed delivery (I ordered within 3 hours, got 6 week delay; co-worker ordered within first MINUTE and got a 4 week delay), but is it really so bad as to overwhelm any other reason to get the device?

Well, I suppose I look at the numbers this way.

There are millions of people who have, and are buying an Apple watch.

A tiny tiny tiny fraction of these people are posting on this forum.
If a tiny tiny fraction of owners are posting about issues, then there must, by logic, be thousands more, with these same issues that are not using these forums.

Granted, not every Apple user is a fussy Apple user and some people perhaps don't notice these things so easily as many who post here and love Apple.

Microsoft, Amazon, Apple, Google... all human rights advocates along with being tech companies. Does that bother or threaten you? Can a company be an advocate for things such as human rights, the environment, eradication of disease, etc? Does the Project Red involvement hurt your feelings?

Apple is the biggest company in the world. Their voice is important. If you don't agree, stop buying their products.

threatened not at all. I just think that a tech company that is clearly having some issues with a product launch and a OS should stiock to what they know.\

Why would Project Red hurt my feelings I dont even know what it is, care much care

Ordered at 3:07am eastern and received my 42mm Sport on 24th and my 42mm Watch milanese loop yesterday.

After seeing and using both in real life, I'm going to return the Sport and we'll order another Watch.

I had the Milanese loop it's sooo nice , although I sold it for 1200 and just reordered

My 4/24 - 5/8 order must have been delivered to someone else, oh wait it was.

42mm Stainless Steel with Milanese Loop, order confirmed by Apple 4/10 @ 3:08am EDT. No update from Apple Whatsoever, however I sit here watching these very models ordered minutes to hours later, going to others throughout the world, and some are even moving within 2 hours distance from me in Harrisburg PA.

I never recall an Apple pre-order taking so long to fulfill and be so oddly dispersed. So much for the 1st come 1st served customer service mantra.

Actually... a lot of the watches are actually shipping FROM Harrisburg, PA. I received my 38 mm SG BSB 2 days ago and it was shipped from Harrisburg.

Ok, this is confirmation that I did the right thing and skipped the gen 1 Apple Watch roller coaster. Along with the other issue its looking like gen 2 will be released in about a year or so. If not I would be surprised. Hopefully then production will be humming and delays for popular configurations will be minimal. Still would like to see the watches and bands sold separately.

I had to wait 4 generations before the iPhone suited me....

Good job Tim Cook.

All that time worrying about what Indiana is doing is working wonders for quality and logistics at Apple.

You mean the one press release? OMG, all that tiiiiiiiime!!

I suppose you also blame gay people for earthquakes and tornados.

Yeah, gosh... worrying about human rights is so much less important than a slight manufacturing hiccup that will be resolved in the next few weeks. Plus, they are clearly connected.

/get some perspective

but don't you know that Tim Cook personally assembles all these watches? Imagine how many more he could've made if he hadn't asked someone to compose that press release for him. IMAGINE IT!

I can't remember a worse launch from Apple. Having to wait for two months for a product is unacceptable.

The new MacBook. At least the watches are in store to look at and play with. Most stores just barely started getting demo units in the US and forget trying to buy one at an Apple store even though its been "available" since April 10th. Apple stores still have no clue when they will have stock to sell. The watch launch is a huge success compared to the MacBook.

Leather Loop Apple Watch

The only two Apple Watches that remain virtually nowhere to be seen are the 38mm and 42mm Space Black with Link Bracelet models, both of which remain available to ship in 4-6 weeks or later for most customers. Earlier this week, it was reported that a Taptic Engine defect may have contributed to Apple Watch supply constraints, but the issue was caught before any units were shipped to customers and has since been resolved.

Has anyone bought a leather loop stainless steel watch and received it? I cannot find videos anywhere online of an unboxing or hands-on outside of a try-on.
