Simply too expensive for what you get. Might as well get a HTC One or S4 for roughly the same price.

moto and htc surely won't get my money.

NO SD CARD? unbelievable. this trend of slimming down and being anorexic is not good. being able to upgrade storage and use real file system is one of the major reasons why I use ANdroid.

i hope samsung/lg and others will offer SD card expansion.

Box looks neat.

Where is the off contract price?

The Verge says no off-contract pricing yet.

The verge live cast saying it will be priced same as S4, HTC One, iPhone - off contract.....

I would have been tempted for €350-400 for decent mid range, but as soon as you go €600 suddenly specs do matter.

Wow the Fandroids on the tech blogs are ripping Motorola pretty hard. I still have to laugh that some of them thought customization meant PC style BTO. I figured all along it would be stuff like color options or personalization.

ONLY ATT is offering the color customization options?! What the duck?

----------

"We've been expecting some customization for the Moto X based on all the leaked news and images, but now we're hearing that many of them — including the all-important 32GB version — will be AT&T only."

EPIC FAIL.

Yeah but customisation is also looking like it might be USA only too :( which is a kick for international consumers. Hate to tell Moto this, but there is actually more potential consumers outside of USA than inside the USA...

Its $199 on 2 year contract in USA.

This will be a complete failure unless its "free" on contract or $299 off contract.

Google is stupid or the carriers are trying to maximize their profits by decreasing the subsidy.

Verge livecast..

Display wise...

They are saying its not pen tile, but its not great and certainly far below the S4 and HTC One.
Colours overstaturated, scrolling bit jaggly..

Apparently more info coming at 8PM.

I don't know why they're staggering info like this. This is all confusing.

I see Tweets saying $575 / $630 at AT&T, but I don't know where people are getting that info from.

Because Moto have said it will be priced alongside other High End phones such as the S4, One & iPhone. So I guess folks have done an average estimation price wise.

And Google 4.2.2 on board not 4.3

I had high hopes for this. I love the customizability, but hate the price and specs. It's already outdated (no SD card) and no 1080p screen?

The HTC One and GS4 have better specs and are at the same $199 on contract price.

Off contract, this will probably be $500+. No thanks :(

Beginning at the end of August, the 16GB model will retail for $199 with a two-year contract on AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular and Verizon, while the 32GB flavor (an AT&T exclusive) will ship for $249. Only AT&T customers will have access to additional color options -- those on other carriers can choose from black and white.

AT&T users are rewarded with the exclusive 32gb model plus all the custom touches :D

lol.

A dual core S4 Pro and a pink backplate that says "love you Sharleen" and it's $199 on two-year contract?

I'm starting to wonder if Google bought Motorola as a joke so they could see if they could make Motorola look any worse than the Cliq did. Congratulations guys, mission accomplished.

The Nexus 4 has a better processor and more appealing purchase experience and it's going to be a year old soon. This phone hasn't even hit the market yet and it arguably sucks already.

I'd rather stick a Nexus 7 LTE in my pocket and use that as a phone than walk around with, what amounts to, Google's first engraved iPod custom.

Sigh...

Well, I hate to say I told you so, but what possibly made anyone suspect this was going to be any different? There was nothing revolutionary about Moto's release of the Droids last week and to do so with this device would have killed any chance of those devices being successful.

As far as cost--I'd argue they offer less value than either the Galaxy S4 or HTC One as the X costs the same or more on AT&T. Only AT&T gets customization and a 32 GB option? And while it is offering a very close to stock experience, each carrier branded version is unique with it's own bloatware and will still have to wait for updates.

And an carrier free unlocked Google Play version? Based on how they priced them on contract, consider yourself lucky if it's priced $549 and $599 respectively.

Totally disappointing product and release. Nothing revolutionary or even remotely interesting. I can customize my color--BFD. Moving on, nothing to see here. :(

Also, it seems clear to me that Google and Motorola will still operate independently for the most part.

That's REALLY disappointing. I wanted to see Google and Moto really unite.

The specs themselves aren't disappointing. We've all, more or less, known about what to expect.

My issue is with the way they're handling this new device.

ATT exclusivity for color options and storage options until the end of the year? Utterly stupid.

No unlocked price information (another move to please the carriers, I'm sure)? Lame. And what will the unlock price be? It'll be only one variant like the GE One/S4? Also lame.

So the phone itself is exactly what we expected. But all this other BS, totally didn't expect that. And that's what's disappointing.
