I guess we will see what they announce tonight. I kept reading that it will be as game changing as the release of the first iPhone. I haven't seen what makes this phone better than the rest yet, at least in the hardware.

Hopefully they announce some killer, I mean really killer, software features.

I don't know why they're staggering info like this, either. It's very frustrating.

Exactly. If you set aside the exclusivity BS, the phone itself still looks and sounds amazing.

Which actually makes the whole situation even worse!

Yep...

It makes the customisation lock out and silly pricing a bigger kick in the teeth, because as I say I genuinely would buy this if it was cheaper.

God only knows what international situation will be.....

Google should've fully adopt Motorola without any bashfulness, should've created a separate page on the Play Store just for Moto X and should've had full color and storage customizations, and be all sold at Nexus-like prices.

That would've been the winner.

What's happening is exactly what I predicted a few pages ago. This phone was way over hyped and now everyone is disappointed. Go figure.

Yep totally agree.

Fully embraced, fully stock, on all play-stores (a global release) and $299 / €299 / £249 unlocked at they would have changed EVERYTHING....

It would have truly been the 'game changer' they promised it would be. The only game they have changed is to try selling mid range hardware at high end prices.

Again, the phone itself is not over-hyped. In fact, it's exactly the rumored specs.

How they're handling and distributing both the phone and information (like unlocked availability and prices) is what's disappointing. Maybe that's what you mean.

I am, personally, still liking the phone itself very much.

I meant people are bound to be disappointed no matter what happens. The fact that this phone was talked about as the second coming of Christ didn't help.

I get you. That's really those people's own fault though. I don't know how they got that impression from the rumored specs. They were always pretty "mid-range".

The only thing worth getting excited over was Google-Motorola relationship, and what that meant for hardware customization, pricing, off contract availability. That's where today fell short.

Some of that might still surprise us down the line. But early word is the Play Store will only have one color (or two colors; black & white presumably) and be only 16GB. No matter the price, if this turns out to be true, it'd be horribly disappointing.

We'll see.

I really want to see more of these customizations on the back. The wood looks nice, but I think some metal or carbon fiber would look amazing

Maybe there is a reason the unlocked price has not been announced. Maybe that's the big shock. Take a dookie on those carrier prices

Wired revealed some information I haven't heard anywhere else.

Only fools don’t protect their phones with a password, but it’s a pain in the neck to punch it in a few hundred times a day. Motorola plans to ease that pain (though not available at launch) by selling plastic tokens that can clip onto clothing—if the tab is within a few feet if the Moto X, no password necessary. (The tokens use NFC technology, built into the phones.) The Moto X will also let you set up password-free “safe zones” like your car.

It comes a time when there's nothing new to invent you just create stuff and try to label it off as new. Nothing about this phone is different it's basically subpar but I think companies are really running out of ideas t this point.

Doesn't ship with 4.3. Called that one too.

Anybody hear if there are any plans to sell it on the Play Store? So far it's not looking good...

I will stick with my jailbroken iPhone 5 until the Nexus 4 (2013) and Android 5.0 are unveiled.

They're leveraging the ability to customize, which nobody else offers. And they can extend the model to future designs once they get the supply chain down. Hopefully they eventually extend the customization to internals, give or take a couple more days for overseas shipping.

This is gonna be a homerun for Google and should compensate for their Android monetization problems. That $12 billion Motorola acquisition doesn't seem like a waste of money anymore
