You'll only see LTE if an LTE radio is made that can do every band including bands not implemented yet. I think its possible but I also wouldn't bother waiting for it.

Nexus line will be a single device world phone from this point on. Unlike other phones have multiple versions for multiple regions.

I'm not so sure that will be the case. Google took too much criticism for not having LTE in a late 2012 "flagship" device. I think we will see LTE in the Nexus 5.

Could one of you, or anyone really, enlighten me on current cellular technology, especially in the US? I'm currently on Verizon and would love to use an unlocked Nexus on the network. It is my understanding that the LTE Verizon uses is GSM based hence, the SIM card. Why do GSM phones not work on Verizon then? Is is because Verizon uses different wireless bands for LTE or because the backup 3G on Verizon is still CDMA?

Is it also possible Google could include a wireless radio of supporting LTE on Verizon in the future? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Att and tmobile are GSM carriers, sprint and verizon are CDMA carriers. With t-mobile and att you can buy unlocked phones and use them on their network. sprint and verizon do not allow you to bring your own phones. You have to use a verizon phone on verizon and a sprint phone on sprint. Internationally, everything is GSM and that is why these phones always come in GSM variants.

As you guessed and mattopotamus explained, it's because Verizon still relies on CDMA. At this point carriers only use LTE for data (I believe, someone please correct me if I'm mistaken), no voice-over LTE yet, so Verizon's CDMA network still handles voice. Also, the LTE bands are very different from the UMTS/HSPA (3-3.5G) used on GSM networks, such as AT&T and T-Mobile in the US.

Well, after seeing the Roger's commercial of the Moto X, I now have my reservations. Having the mic on all the time to listen for the phrase, "OK, Google Now" can not be good for the battery.
No LED Notification light (but instead a notification image on screen, that goes on and off, defeats the purpose of having a Notification light in both battery consumption and visibility. Stupid mistake Googlerola.
Double flick of the wrist to activate the camera? Great! Now people will look like their arms are having convulsions trying to get the camera to turn on.

On the plus side, we now know this phone launches in August. I am scratching it off my list as my S3 replacement though.

Do you think that Moto X will be available worldwide? When?

I know it's impossible to know, just curious to read your opinions.

If it has a good battery life and camera + near stock Android, I'm sold.

Like I said, possible but only if such a radio exist. Google has made it very clear with their intentions of a low cost single world phone. There are many different versions of phones like the iPhone and S4 to accommodate not only the world but individual carriers in each country while the N4 has one version that works in nearly every country.

LTE had been out for years prior to the N4. Google knew there would be criticisms but the technology didn't/doesn't exist.

I hope it, at least, matches the One and GS4 in terms of specs. If not, why even bother?

There is a huge void in smaller, mid to high end Android phones right now. There's the flagships at 4.7"+ and below that we have stuff like the S4 Mini that has lower resolution than the iPhone 4 but a larger screen size. In other words more noticeably pixelated display. The upcoming HTC One Mini seems to be the only one filling that void.

The way I see it, the Moto X could be a really nice smartphone. Powerful enough to do the things people typically do with their phones (calls, social networks, messaging, web, some gaming) at a size that is good for most people's hand, with a battery life that is satisfactory, all at a good price. Based on the photos it certainly looks attractive too.

I have a S4 but I really don't need something that powerful and large.

exactly. I just need a phone that is fluid and can do the things you mentioned. I have zero games on my phone and a quad core CPU does nothing for me. The problem is like you said, you either get the flagships or crap

The only Nexus you can use on Verizon is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus.
The reason why gsm phones don't work on Verizon is because its still a CDMA based technology. If i'm correct the phone still has to be processed and activated on their network.

The international GS4 has LTE but the previous international GS3 didn't. The HTC One international version also has LTE.

LTE on the Nexus 5 won't be a problem.

at about 21mins and 20 seconds it talks about some interesting things related to this phone

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lieW6oiMDc#at=1490

He mentions a release soon b.c he says people with google edition phones would be pushing the 30 days return window.

Thanks for the link. Very interesting at 25:57. He talks about why he thinks the google play editions exist.

Also 21:06 he hints at the price is going to cheaper than the play edition phones.

While that's decently nice news, that doesn't sound that big.

This sounds like they know some new feature that no one's talked about.

Finger print sensor?

After carrying an Atrix for about three months in 2011, no...just no. It sucked. So horribly. It sucked so much I can't even put it into words. Maybe it was just MotoBlur at the time, but god...

Let's hope they learned a thing or two since then...

Latest leak (from US Cellular) suggests an August 26th launch date with waves 1, 2, and 3. What the heck are waves? I guess launching in different regions...?

Also did a bit of cleaning in the OP.

I've been following the Moto X leaks for quite some time. I have yet to see anything truly compelling about it. It seems to me like everyone was expecting a Google super-phone with everything and the kitchen sink. Now people are realizing it is just a mid-range phone with a little bit of Google influence...

Not every detail of every device is leaked before it's officially announced...hopefully Moto X will have something unique. Even if it doesn't have top of the line specs, I expect software features to be the selling point of this phone. A device doesn't need to have an S800, 2GBs RAM, and a 1080p display to be high-end and exciting.

Well...let's hope they surprise us.

Moto X will be announced on August 1st!

I'm not so sure about the first and the last rumor, but I'm REALLY excited for this phone.

Agreed. I'd wager whatever anyone wants that both the first and last won't be happening. The Nexus 4 is already dirt cheap by full retail standards and it would be $100-150 more than the Moto X. I'd guess it'll be $199 on-contract.

And while I think having the 'always-on' microphone and pulsing display for notifications may warrant a 4000 mAh battery to be able to make it a full day ;), nearly every rumor I've read pegs the battery at the 2000-2100 mAh range.
