You can't hold a phone 0.5" taller and 0.25" wider? :p

You guys sound like it's a Dell Streak or something.

It seems like a small change but it is quite large compared to the iPhone. Let's say that I could not completely operate the phone with one hand like I can with the iPhone. I find that the iPhone is just the right size for me.

A couple of things:

The "No Jacket Required" ad is Apple's fault. They started talking crap about other phones because their own phone has a huge design flaw. Of course other companies will reply.

2nd, the Droid X 'death grip' video is a bunch of crap. Besides the fact that iPhone has a *detuning* problem (which is completely different from attenuation), Android phones say '3G' in the top corner when they have a good 3G signal and they say 'Edge' or '2G' when they have a 2G/EDGE signal. The phone in the video has neither.

Basically, Steve Jobs had to drive out to the middle of nowhere to find an area with such bad coverage that there was no 2G or 3G available and then he made his video. This is why no one I have talked to has been able to reproduce this phenomenon on the Droid X.

Conversely, about one half of the iPhone 4 owners I know have mentioned that their phone drops calls.

I suppose its easier to say that someone else sucks than to fix your own problems. Brand hate aside, I can't figure out why you would want to give money to a company that slings mud instead of solving issues. Its not like there aren't alternatives.

Just a few things:

1. The antenna issue is blown way out of proportion. Its a great phone and all the people I know that have them (ie. normal users, not techie geeks that check Engadget every 15 minutes) love their phones and most haven't even heard about the supposed antenna issue and even less have experienced it. Remember only a small portion called to complain and even less of them returned their phones. They are still sold out and can't keep up with demand.

2. The Droid X from the sounds of it is a great phone. So is the EVO and some of the other Android phones coming to market. If I weren't on ATT I would probably have one of those. The Apple fanboys should be happy that there is competition out there as this drives Apple to keep producing better devices to stay competitive. Without them we may never have gotten to the 3gs or 4.

3. Each of the phones has its pros and cons. Some like the iPhone and all the it offers and some like the Droid, EVO, etc for whatever they offer. Get over it...

Lovely, you have done a proven test speaking to 2 iPhone users, very statistical. There is a problem with most/all phones which will suffer from Signal loss - you can't deny it.

You said he drove to an area with low signal, well in the test it had 5 Bars, and went to 1/0 bars after so called 'death grips'. Also people in high signal areas don't have the problem...

Eh. Motorola phones just suck.

I loathed that stupid RAZR or whatever they called it.

Piece of crap, that's what it was.

This line is so funny...

It's also very revealing, millions of people will buy a weak poorly designed product if you simply slap the Apple logo on it, it's just a toy to them... :)

Ahh... the millions of ppl are dumb response...

Lets not forget Moto, Samsung, HTC all have "Branded" names also, so one could say exactly what you did about the EVO or X.

Look at that giant ugly mess. No thanks.

My grandmother is in her seventies. She doesn't know a lot about technology. At all. We got her a computer for Christmas and it's been slow. She can check her email and play games on Pogo. That's about it.

When the iPhone commercial came on the other day, she asked me if I knew "about all the reception issues" and "how it didn't work as a phone".

Competition is always good. I'm ticked at moto using technical measures to prevent the loading of custom ROMs, but whatever.

What do you mean there isn't a perfect phone for everone?!?!?!?!
HERESY. HERESY I SAY. BURN HIM AT THE STAKE!

Seriously, some people are WAAAAAY too loyal to products and brands.

I hope all these apple jabs are pissing steve jobs off. he deserves it. they can come up with a solution internally and fix the phones

5 Bars on a 1G tower. Do you know how far out into the boonies you have to go to find an area where VERIZON doesn't have 2G or 3G?

My phone sitting right here on the table will fluctuate between 3 bars or 4 bars (4 bars is the max) depending on the SIR on the tower

Unfortunately for your theory, I live 10 miles outside of Atlanta, which is a very high signal area for AT&T and plenty of people here have the issue.

Make excuses and misdirect all you want, but you and I both know that the iPhone 4 is seriously flawed and that Apple is taking a huge dump on its 3 million customers and badmouthing products that work better than theirs do.

Don't get mad at me. Get mad at Apple.

I get 1 bar of VZW signal at my house in So Cal and drops calls constantly. I get full bars with AT&T and my iPhone 4 has been waaay better than my 3G on calls. Just proves that for every person that is affected negatively, there is an opposite. I've had VZW for 10 years and AT&T for 3yrs (and still have both accounts). VZW is better but not by any magnitude. This coming from personal experience.

You know, you are never actually going to squeeze it that hard during normal use. Where as the iPhone 4, you simply (fill in the blank) and the bars plummet...

I don't see anyone squeezing the phone hard in this video. He is simply holding it. Also, my iPhone 4 will do nothing when simply touched in the lower left corner. You have to grip it as well. Hence the term "death grip". Nobody is saying "death touch" or "death fingertip". Get a GRIP! :)

What is your zip code? I have a friend who works over at Verizon

I would just like to objectively say that direct attacks on competitors' products are not new to the smart phone world. It's been going on as long as their have been products and services to market. As far as this debate between who threw the first punches in the Droid vs. iPhone battle, everyone seems to be pointing at Apple. Doesn't anyone remember the original marketing campaign for the first Droid? It wasn't that long ago. Their entire strategy was to attack the iPhone with their "Droid Does" ads plastered all over TV and print. The whole point was to directly attack a competitor's product and point out its shortcomings. All companies do this and neither Motorola or Apple started the practice, however in this specific battle, I would say that Motorola definitely cast the first stone.

I heard that Motorola share holders are filing a class action suit against the company for mismanagement.

Who really cares. What I mean is - this is business not a sorority. Who cares who threw the first stone. Apple has created some of the best marketing and advertising. And their competitors are smart to smack them down when/if they have the opportunity. Any company would do it.

I don't personally care. However, others seem to and I see a lot of posts stating that "Apple deserves this" or "it's Apple's fault for going after the Droid." I'm just clearing the air and stating the fact that Motorola was first to attack Apple last year.

I'm not sure what your sorority reference means in this situation but my point was that all companies do this. You seem to agree so I'm not sure what you trying to argue about.
