Google is trying but Android, even when Google makes the hardware and the software is still a second rate experience until proven otherwise.

There is nothing in the Moto X that would get me to even consider changing from the iPhone.

Moto X will be a curiosity and sell moderately for a while but when the next iPhones are announced they will blow this out of the water sales-wise.

I would definitely consider the Moto X since it's hardware and software controlled by Google and no frickin' manufacturer's skins... only stock Android. And you know this baby is going to have the latest Android before any other manufacturer's phone. As for the specs, let the software catch up to the hardware. The "throw everything in but the kitchen sink" mentality is useless. Dual core CPU, quad core GPU, 4.7" screen and 2GB RAM seems to be fine with Google and they feel those specs are enough for Android at this time. That battery life is killer.

Welcome back later. That's what happened to my friend after switching to Samsng. His next phone will be iPhone.

Well its a long way off yet but am fed up with Apple shelling out the same thing year after year..they seem to do the least they can get away with! My house is all Mac and iPad's but am not that big an Apple not to switch, Samsung is ano, but this Moto X looks a perfect choice if Apple once again aren't going to deliver a larger screen.

On the Verge videos some manager from motorola said they will get updates as other manufactures and they are separated from google. that's why they came out with 4.2.2 and not 4.3

I think the black looks much better than the white version. With the white you get to see all those sensors along the top and the hole along the bottom, which make it look ugly (and cheap). Its the same for the S4 - they ruin the look of the phone. At least Apple think about where to place them and make them centred.

Overall though, it's not a bad phone.

There are many other models that have superior build quality, performance and/or price.

That's why the Android fans are bitching about it.

Android fans have been hell bent on creating the iPhone killer that they've basically just want any feature you can think of thrown into a phone. If Google was behind this then I would think the build quality and performance are superior, but only having been announced and never actually having held one, both of us can't make those assumptions. Android fans probably bitch about it because Google is NOT following the rest of them with quad core CPU's, huge screens and gimmicky tricks. Google probably knows (since they make the OS) that you don't need all that computing power to run Android smoothly.

Cool, that means when the next major version of android comes up this fall, people will have to wait another half year to be able to download it. This sucks.

Not sure if this was asked before, if all Moto X phones are activated by someone saying "Ok, Google Now", what happens when you are in a room full of Moto X?

Nobody will buy this overpriced pos phone, so that won't be a problem.

Take a 50 kB/s as the bandwidth needed for audio transfer, this adds up to 50 KB/s * 3600 s/h * 24 h/d * 30 d/month = 907 GB/month.

It only connects to google servers when you say "ok, google now".

apple news and rumors have been pretty boring as of late.

most exciting news of the month was the VP of hardware who got the sack.

If volunteering to step down from your VP Position so that you can spend more time in your own Apple financed Skunk Works with the best and brightest having only to answer to Tim Cook is "the sack" then where to I apply?

For a hardware guy, which Bob Mansfield is, this is infinitely superior to retiring to spend "more time with your money", and Apple still gives him a massive payday! What's not to like?

iPhone 5 is last year's phone. It would be stupid to think that it is always the best. But that doesn't mean it is no different from 4S. If you can't tell, it's because you are not a heavy user. I can see the performance boost and smoothness when using multiple services at once, like music playback, voice navigation, answering incoming call over Bluetooth or playing games all at the same time.

You listen to music while talking via Bluetooth do you? And play games while using Sat Nav "all at the same time". Remind me not to get in a car with you.

I really don't understand....this is not Apple news, this isn't anything to do with Apple, apart from the fact it is competition. Not Apple news, don't post it, unless it is really huge news (this, however is not. It is a good phone, but not revolutionary, like 8GB RAM and a flexible indestructable phone).
But I do like the phone, I just wish it was available WORLD BLOODY WIDE!

and they said only apple devices have last years specs

Have a little research, mate. This is using Moto X8, in otherwords, "We have 8 cores mate, but we don't want to go in, my specs are better than yours race". Don't just take everything on a plate, otherwise you would think iPhone 5 was the thinnest phone at launch, it wasn't.

Since iOS4, we have seen new services and features from Apple and third parties. Heck, even Google is forced to give us turn by turn navigation. And even Apple Maps have improved since launch.

Apple Maps would have cost my life if I had followed the route it gave me and it still will cost my life. No Google Maps for me, simply because Apple Maps is not accurate at all.

Apple don't toy with their CPU and GPU clock to boost benchmarks like Samsung too. So whether which phone runs best is not so clear cut based on reviews and vendor specs.

So benchmarks from independent news magazines are not to be trusted? Sounds paranoia to me.

I've been an Apple user since before it was "cool", and will be one till the day I die....but even I have to admit that Apple is really dragging it's heels on releasing a larger iphone. We all know they will. It's what the market seems to want.

I know Apple always takes their sweet time. Steve Jobs was notorious for saying things like Apple will never come out with a music player, or a phone or a tablet...and then coming out with one. It's practically their modus operandai...to deny or wait awhile or outright deny the need for a product while a trend is beginning to form....and then coming out with their own better version...and end up OWNING the market.

I just think Apple is pushing it with the larger iphone. They are giving Samsung & others a REALLY long time to OWN the market for smartphones with larger screens.

Neither can't be proven. What you're stating here is fanboy talk. It's not a bit close an objective opinion. What's good and not is in the eye of the beholder, but to fully understand what I mean with that one can't be dogmatic when judging about what's good or what isn't.

Like the none existing line-ups in front of the not so crowded Apple stores when the iPhone 5 came out? It's a rhetorical question. Apple lost it's coolness factor. And that's not even something one can fully blame Apple for, other smart phones can pretty much do the same stuff as the iPhone, some can do even more and perform better technical wise.

I doubt any of my friends are getting this phone, because almost all of them have iPhones and blackberries. But if one does, I'm so messing with his phone. "OK Google Now, remind Mark he is a . . . " "OK Google Now, set alarm for 3 a.m."

Seems juvenile? Yeah, but it will be funny for the first week or so.

You are right. larger iPhone will be a huge success along with the great changes iOS 7 brought but apple sticks with 2 year changes and they are stuck in the middle of it.
next year is almost too late to the game, no one knows what the new technology will bring.

Hal?

If it changed the command and let me say "Hello HAL" for the google now, and had Hal's voice... Then there would be no turning back! haha.

If only 2001:A Space Odyssey had a mobile unit!

Same thing with my co-worker. In her case, she not only found Android to be confusing and frustrating to use, but her Galaxy S3 is now refusing to charge properly / hold a charge. She's limping along until iPhone 5S comes out.

Tell her to buy a new battery? Why doesnt she have a spare battery anyways? I'd definitely carry a spare battery if I had a S3 or S4.. Changable battery is god-sent..

I remember when Siri came out...people were always messing around with Siri on their friend's phones, etc.

Ha ha, you will have to ditch all your computers, tablets, game consoles and phones.

Unfortunaley, yes. But you see my point? the Moto X seems to be 'actively' listening, but I don't think that should make those who are concerned about privacy even more concerned, our phones are little trackers.

It used to be back before iPhone that if you want to have a private conversation (or, you know, have quality time with your lady :D) you can take out the battery of the phone, but not anymore lol.
