Quality

It's success will depend on it's quality. We are not talking about a Nexus Phone here. Moto's quality has been hit and miss at best. There are no feature sets on this to pull from iPhone 5 or Galaxy S4. :apple:

IMO, Moto X still looks to be phone that appeals more to geeks and engineers than the masses, but it is still a big step in the right direction.

I think it's the opposite -- this is the "every person" phone, like the iPhone 5C. Except at iPhone 5S pricing.

It does show that battery life is the next "spec war" so I wonder what the 5S will bring. Hopefully Apple is continuing the insane battery life trend into their mobile devices as well as laptops.

Yes this is what I have been waiting for--I wished it came from Apple, but I am getting this phone.

Game over :apple:

And which "rights" are you worried about. Please be specific in your answer, as I'm really interested in which ones you believe you still have.

If you don't even know what your basic privacy rights are, why claim that it's too late ?

There are technologies under development to protect consumers. Just pick the ones that champion and protect your privacy. Apple has some coming up in iOS7.

Moto X and other future "greatest", "next big thing", Android non-Samsung devices will be the greatest thing that will happen to Apple.

Huh ? Wait for what ? There's nothing special there except false 24 hour battery life claim.

Open mic for GoogleNow listening will kill the battery fast. The battery life claim does not include GoogleNow usage. It's the standard reduced brightness, no Wifi, video playback test, plus may be surfing with wifi back on.

Well I'm not bothered by the voice thingy but I won't wait for Apple to wring out yet another iPhone with the same small screen and I won't ever buy Samsung so this look like it might be the option for me. I have to leave the Apple camp but really I have no choice..I predict an even lower market share if this does pan out this way..

Does anybody actually know the pice unlocked for this?? Hopefully its in the sub $400 category, if it is this will be a good buy.

From Taylor Wimberly on twitter
@wimbet Off-contract pricing was revealed for ATT. $575 for 16GB, $630 for 32 GB

Better put than me but I agree I've waited with my ipHone 4, then got a second hand 4s as I think 5 is a waste of money. I can only hope it's not too much in the UK..

And you are welcome to come back - once you get tired of those next big thing! :D

Haha the comments here so far are more positive than on Google friendly tech sites.

On the droid side of the internet there was this idea that the device might be priced around $300 off contract. This was based on the fact that some of the hardware is one generation behind the current top of the line smartphones. A lot of those people were disappointed when they found out that it will be priced like any other "premium" smartphone.

I find it interesting that Motorola is trying to sell features and customizability instead of pure hardware specs. I hope it is more successful than HTC with the "ultra-pixels." It would be great if they can pull off the 24h battery life - there is not so much benefit in a thinner & lighter phone if you have to use a battery pack case.

I'd hope that's configurable. Saying "Okay Google Now..." every time like that would get real old real soon...

RTP.

Google Now is the app name that listens to this commands.
With this technology you can get devs to make their apps respond to voice and so on.

It's brilliant

Wait, wait, wait ... It's designed by HIM! :D

The 24 hour claim is mixed use, not the standard talk time measurement. The reviewers always use the same usage tasks to re-measure battery life. It will be shorter than google's generous claim, like nexus 7.

The success of this phone will come down to how well the Google voice commands work, and whether the Moto X is actually easier to use than its competitors as a result.

If Moto X raises the bar, I think it'll be a winner. Otherwise, it's just another Android phone with middling specifications.

Chances are they judge solely on specs and specs alone.

That's exactly right.
Android fans take specs as primary factor with new hardware.
I showed the ad to my GF and I was told "this is my next phone". That's it.
