I hope that number keeps rising; we need competition to not let Apple rest on it's laurels.

I for one constantly hate the upgrading and compatibility issues between devices. I especially hate how some devices work with certain hardware. I wish we could all agree on one tablet and move forward. That tablet being iPad. Death to Zoom. :apple:

Apple are kicking arse without the competition. Do they need it at this point?

Exactly. When will people realize that Apple competes with itself. The only thing that "competitive pressure" puts on Apple is to make their prices cheaper, but as far as the product goes, Apple is competing with itself and the "competition" is simply playing catch up in terms of the product.

Apple sure hasn't sat on their ass in the music space, where they face no real competition. Apple invented the iPhone with literally no competition. Two years later competitors slowly emerged. Apple invented the iPad with literally no competition, one year later competitors slowly emerge.

Apple doesn't need competitors to keep making great products, they simply need Steve to continue desiring killer products for himself to own. Although competition does benefit us when it comes to pricing, and also benefits Apple when it comes to antitrust allegations :p. Without Android, Apple would probably be facing similar antitrust issues Microsoft had.

What a joke of a tablet. Nothing but a piece of crap.

I agree. Everyone is wasting their time trying to beat Apple at tables, music players, and smartphones. They are failing hilariously :D

I want to see Apple take down Google

I agree that Apple doesn't need competition, but when they released the iPhone, they had to compete a lot with Palm and Blackberry. The iPod also had competition from Sony. The iPad had no competition. The Mac has a LOT of competition from MS and their "team" (Dell, HP, Acer, etc).

It's no surprise really. Xoom is just a toy for content consumption, there is nothing really you can do with it, there are no apps for scientists, engineers, doctors, musicians, etc, etc. It can only do just basic stuff like internet browsing, videos, music, books, angry birds, etc, so it's functionality is very primitive and toy-like.
Why should I buy Xoom if I can buy an iPad and have a full-blown CAS system for math computations? Or support of audio and MIDI interfaces via USB so that I can use iPad music synthesizers fully integrated into a professional studio? Etc, etc... Android fans are just geeks with empty lives who don't even think that people do anything else besides customizing their home screen with widgets... Real people use apps, they don't look all day at home screen or OS interface...

You forgot to mention that the Xoom starts at $800!
Really, WHO would buy that?!

Honda sells a TON more cars than BMW by a huge factor...I'd rather drive a BMW, I guess you're all happy with the Hondas :)

LOL are you for real? This is the worst quote ever.
Honda is cheap, so ipad is cheap???????? lol
Please don't troll like that.

you can't compare apple and oranges.
If you like a product, then good, don't go saying the other is cheap/suck/oh-everyone-is-jumping-to-the-bandwagon or whatever...........

Wooow

I guess Apple can be like an antagonist and say, "aa haa, I made more than you in a month than you did in a year!!"

That's why Apple lost around 30% marketshare in less than two months when the Galaxy tab was released? You know: That's the tablet that runs an outdated phone OS and not even a tablet OS...

LMAO

Someone is really out of touch with the truth.

Samsung can't even declare the 2 million they shipped were sold. The reports are that customers were also very dissatisfied with the galaxy tab.

So now I have two tablets. I have two computers at my desk, an iMac and a PC, and I can use both of those, but I can't quite figure out how two tablets figure into the equation. I know I'm more excited by the Xoom than I was after I first used the iPad, and I was quite excited by the iPad. Time will tell, but I'm currently leaning more towards the Xoom.
You have already lost. Seriously, what are you even doing? Spend some money more wisely.
Why wouldn't you count those as games? They are available for Android. They are not available on iOs.
Funny, I started playing SNES and other emulated games on iOS* around March, 2008. But, I'm sure you know more about it than I.

* was not called iOS at that time

The xoom is that disappointing gift a kid gets under the yule tree from someone who doesn't quite get it.

"What's this?"
"An ipad"
"But this is a motorola tablet."
"Yes they make them too."
"Thanks Grandma"

Lets hope this little trial ballon called the xoom tablet pops before the solstice rolls around.

Ha, ha...

I tried the Galaxy Tab today at BB - the website I visited it with only showed the left frame (which was the site's nav links) - the rest of the webpage was missing (looks fine on my iPhone)...

No they didn't. You should read up on Sold vs Sales

http://www.businessinsider.com/ipad...aign=Feed:+businessinsider+(Business+Insider)

The iPad has over 90% of the tablet marketshare.

There is of course the problem that items shipped to store do not equal items sold to end users, but the article makes some bizarre mistake in the iPad sales calculations. Basically, they say (correctly) that not all iPads shipped to stores in that quarter are sold to end users in the quarter. But they forget completely that the same thing happened in the quarter before, and all the iPads shipped but not sold in the quarter before are getting sold this quarter.

Basically, they say iPads sold to customers = items sold to the channel, minus channel inventory. That's wrong. It should be items sold to the channel, minus increase of channel inventory.

What can I say... Apple's domination here is well-deserved.

No competitor has caught end-user attention like the iPad because they haven't been good enough to do so. Android may have matured enough both in OS, the ecosystem, and how Google even intend to run things (open? closed? they seem to be a bit undecided at the moment after closing down Android 3 "for the foreseeable future") in a year or so.

It doesn't exactly help platform popularity and OEM's investing time and money in the platform when the company running the show aren't sure how to run the show.

The bulk of posts on this thread are from fanboys trying to discredit the xoom.
What are you people so afraid of?
Nobody's making you go out and buy a xoom.

The rest of us look forward to a market that will offer a greater amount of choice and some very capable tablets that will give us more than what the ipad has.

Don't be afraid. It will only help you too, since apple will be forced to compete and offer better capabilities on its own tablet as well.

I imagine that by the ipad 3 or 4, they will also offer better connectivity, better multi tasking and file management and prices will go down.

And if you keep trying to equate sales with superior quality, then it's obvious that Windows is the best OS on the planet by far.

There are currently more Android based devices then their are iOS. Android does not just power tablets and Smartphones. It has Ereaders, Tvs and various other things. Android is the most versatile of all the current Mobile OSs so its not surprising that it is being implemented on other things.

And iOS has the iPod touch and the Apple TV. Every figure I've ever seen has iOS handily in the lead over Android in total devices. Do you have any figures to back up your statement? And the reason Android is used on so many different devices is because it's free. Nothing about it's quality or "versatility".

Iphone is the single highest selling smartphone as of right now. I honestly thing Lg's optimus 1 series of smartphones may dethrone it. The optimus series of Smartphones is on every major carrier but AT&T and it is one of the cheapest android phones on the market and being functional at the same time. Hell I got one when my blackberry broke on t-mobile and i have no complaints.

In the future the iphone will only be competing in what will be called the "high end" smartphones.

It's been the single highest selling smartphone since it was released, 4 years ago. That's an eternity for a handset. And if you don't think the iPhone 5 will sell huge amounts, I've got a bridge in Brooklyn I'd like you to consider purchasing.

YOU apparently havent seen how apps scale first hand. Like i said ill take that over x1, x2 ANY day.

HAHA, Yes I own a XOOM and a Ipad 2(previously Ipad 1).

YOU apparently havent used either at any length.

My point still stands, I can use less apps to accomplish the same goals on a XOOM than i can on a Ipad.

If you have any other first hand usage that proves me wrong.. go for it.

lol. if you really owned iPad 1 AND iPad 2 you wouldn't be here talking about the Xoom. you'd be talking about how awesome the iPad is. the reason your on here hollering about that Xoom is bc you own that trinket but feel you have to go out of your way to convince us you can't be wrong bc you own the rival product. I'd tell you to post a picture to prove you own an iPad and a Xoom but again I believe you own a Xoom and let's be honest theres plenty of people to find to let you take a picture with there iPads bc everyone is buying them. If I'm wrong then that's unfortunate bc you recommend Xoom tablet so I know I can't trust a word you say.
