After 16 years on every (or alternate year) iPhone, I recently took the decision of moving everything to Google Cloud and Google Pixel.
The first reason was the painfully slow iCloud sync with files and photos, the second being the behaviour of the staff at Apple Store, Saket (careless, rude, and undeniably ego-filled). Complained via email to Joz, he replied, but nothing further really happened.

The Pixel has a great camera, nice video boost features, and mostly smooth software. The device is quite slow as compared to iPhone, processing power slow, but the AI is crazy nice, and far ahead of others.

Now I know a lot of my fellow MacRumors readers won't be able to digest someone moving to another mobile operating system, and their comments always make me laugh. Blindly accepting and praising any brand, no matter how irrational the fan-following is, slows down innovation and lets the others move forward.

PS: I am still using the M5 MacBook Pro, as there is nothing better.

Welcome aboard! So many recent converts. I think Apple Intelligence and Liquid Glass are viewed as HUGE successes... to the Android community. ;)

I have a 17 pro max and a p10 pro XL. I use the p10 pro XL as software is leaps and bounds better. It more than makes up for the slower processor. Also it's more comfortable to use

Spoiler: the next version of Android looks like it’s taking a lot of inspiration from Liquid Glass.

It's just in testing, so who knows if it will look actually like that. But it's mostly just some added blur, which you can already turn off on Android. As long as they stay away from dancing edge highlights around everything that parallax with the phone movement. That crap makes me nauseous.

Hope you can follow up in a couple weeks at how the transition went. I will probably be doing the same when my current SE dies, only because I can't agree with Apple that $599 is a "budget" phone. 🤨

You're in good company in these parts of MR 👊

You'll love the Pixel. Hopefully this won't open the floodgates and then you'll become two phones Nelson or three phones McGee like many of us.

If you're completely new to Android and still use your Mac, I highly recommend looking into OpenBubbles. You can use iMessage on your Android phone. It performs a one-time sync using a QR code on your Mac and that's it. Even works with FaceTime video calls. Makes the transition much smoother for those who use iMessage.

The Pixels are great phones. I had two different models before switching to iPhone in November 2024. My wife just got the Pixel 10 Pro XL and loves it. Enjoy your new device!

I think both Android and iOS devices works fine. I have used iCloud in the past and it didn't work for me so I switched to Google for online storage and it's been great ever since. It is also good to use both to see what is different on each side. I have two phones at the moment, a Galaxy S9 (very old, but works fine for what I need) and a iPhone 13 mini. I also have an Android tablet and several Mac portable and desktops. All have good features and I don't think one device can do it all well.

Joz oversees marketing... not retail... or iCloud? I'm surprised you even got an answer lol.

It's love to know what people define as 'slow'. I went from the iPhone Air to the Pixel 9a and I don't notice any difference in speed at all.

Imagine a group of people following something/someone so blindly they don't see the bad or the good of the other side. Where have I seen this before....? Of course I am talking about phones calm down people ;)

I just picked up a used S24 and moved everything over to it. It's honestly a really solid phone and I don't really have any complaints so far. Welcome to the club.

P.s. - I have a MacBook Air M4 and it is the best laptop I have ever owned in literally everyway.

I have flip flopped between Pixel and iPhone for the past couple years. iPhone wins in the indoor photo and overall video performance and polished app experience. Android developers treat their apps as a second thought. I love both but I enjoy using my Pixel a lot more (until a monthly update breaks something and I switch off for a few months). But overall love the Pixel experience

I’m pretty sure you’ll be back on an iPhone very soon.
Why do you say that? Many of us prefer Android so why do iphone users always assume everybody is going to switch back to iphone? I personally go with iphone when i'm getting a little bored with android and want a change. After a while I go running back to Android as I feel it is a far superior OS.

frankly all that matters is that you are happy with your purchase, and sorry for your experience at the Apple Store.
There are lots of smartphones out there with great hardware, no doubt, so enjoy.
Me, I have an AW, 17PM, iPad Air and a Mac Studio (all running on 26.2.x) and I quite like the integration. I realize that the other OSs would do the job for me too but the integration piece is unique to Apple. So call me "locked in to the ecosystem", that's fine, to me, today, the pluses outweigh the minuses, when that changes at the point I'll consider new HW, I will re-evaluate.
Enjoy!

Pixel hardware never lasts. Went through 3 devices, each never lasting more than 2 years.

To be fair to Pixel I guess, the last one survived - you just have to charge it wirelessly or jump through random software hoops to get it to charge via cable.

Switched back to iPhone and never looked back.

Not to mention the terrible spyware Google has on Android. They train their AI on your emails ffs
