Love it! Much better than Safari. I've been waiting for this to go final after I tested a few of the RC builds.

Can't use it!!!

Ahh,

I was hoping this would be fixed by the time the full version was out. But it STILL doesn't work with iWeb '08 sites. This renders the browser completely useless to me and all of my friends because we all post our family updates in iWeb '08. There's a lot of slander saying it's apple or it's mozilla. That's not the point. If you're really going to try and take market share out there, it needs to just work. The fact that every iWeb user can no longer visit their sites and see its javascript glory means that this is an immediate downgrade. I'd choose IE 7 over firefox now but instead will just stick with Safari. It pains me to say that.

except for the ugly default theme and performance with some long pages this is a great improvement.

I wonder why people give negative votes for this news, zealots are pathetic.

Too bad the multitouch gestures for the Macbook Pro's don't work in FF. That is one of the only things keeping me from it. If there was some sort of easy plugin to install that would adjust FF to the standard gestures without any messing around it would be very nice.

I still prefer safari, but the new zoom feature in FF works way better. Sorry Apple!

Along with those suggestions, Firefox might just be my new default. Fantastic improvement over Firefox 2.

I loved Safari, just couldn't handle it beachballing so often.

I don't know, I don't think FF is annoying visually on default this time round.

So I think I'll leave it.

I still prefer safari, but the new zoom feature in FF works way better. Sorry Apple!

Apple have their photocopiers out for Safari 4 and it works pretty well.

Opera did this first, then IE 7 followed. Now Firefox has taken the same approach it makes no sense for Safari to stand alone in offering text resizing instead of page resizing.

Developers want consistency.

You can achieve the same page zoom effect by using ems for everything (see odeon.co.uk).

So far it's lightyears ahead of Firefox 2 and works better than the FF3 betas, but it still opens new tabs when I command-click links when I have "New pages should be opened in a new window" and not "...tab" checked >.< One good thing is that pages finally open at the same position and not in a "cascading" manner. Not sure if I'll switch from Safari permanently yet.

Wow, looks like Mozilla didn't expect such a big response. I haven't been able to get on their site every time I've tried today.

Good for them! I wouldn't mind if they grab more of IE's marketshare....

Yes, according to tests Safari 4 is faster than FF3, even for me

Safari:
Total: 2276.6ms +/- 0.6%

FF3
Total: 3418.2ms +/- 9.1%

However, subjectively and there have already been a few people who agree with me, FF3 loads pages faster and that's what is most important IMO

Anyway, from the sites that I most frequently browse daily, MacRumors is the only one that FF3 displays differently from Safari. Either the font size is larger on FF3, or it uses a different font completely.

Everyone: notice the Safari-Zoom-Fail below. I chose CNET because, well, we all love CNET, right? (not...) I guess Apple just doesn't want to pull the old "feature creep" (sarcasm...)

much better for powerbooks

i've got a powerbook G4 w/ 1.0 ghz PowerPC processor. given my aged hardware i'm happy to get any boost in performance that comes from better software. i just downloaded firefox and am pleased with it. so far it seems that pages load much quicker.

"... and the industry's fastest response times" < Very funny!

I'm much quicker to believe an independent test, rather than anyone's advertising hype! Firefox has some great features (I've been a happy FF user for years, prior to coming to the Mac and Safari), but speed is NOT one of them!

It's still firefox in all of its bad font glory.
I came across a really ugly bug in the first 30 seconds of using it too.
I clicked the zoom button once to make the window full screen and then I hit it again, and instead of going back to the size I had it it went to this:
Picture4-1.png

EDIT: and of course it still can't pass the acid3 test. Although neither does the current build of safari, both the nightly webkit build and safari 4 can.

I'm pretty sure when they say "the fastest response times" they are referring their response times to security issues.

I don't like using Firefox under Mac OS X. It doesn't have this "native" feel to it, as opposed to Safari. Firefox 3 tried to imitate the native feel but I still think it falls short.

The performance improvements are very welcome though.

To be fair I think the “industry's fastest response times” refers to the speed in which they ship patches to fix security issues rather than rendering speed etc.

wow i didnt notice that, but now my homepage is broken hmm that sucks :\

I think I just found my new default browser. This thing is fast. I noticed the speed difference over Safari immediately. Before I only used Firefox 2 for certain webpages that Safari had trouble with. Now I'll use it all the time.

I can't get it to save my history? When i click the "keep my history for at least _____ days" next time i open it it's unchecked, even though i just checked it.

any suggestions?
