To be fair I think the “industry's fastest response times” refers to the speed in which they ship patches to fix security issues rather than rendering speed etc.

Yeah, usually Firefox will have a patch out within a day or two for 0-day exploits. Very fast response time. Apple and Microsoft take much longer for 0-day exploits.

Firefox's update system is practically flawless as well. It is rare for someone to have an out-of-date version of Firefox or extension.

the toolbar buttons are much uglier, and too bold. anyway to use the toolbar buttons from FF2?

FF3 is definitely fast, and loads quickly too. I used to be an FF user until i switched to mac but have since preferred Safari for the performance. This version might get me to switch back. However, does anyone know if there is an extension or setting to mimic Safari's Command+# jump-to-bookmark system?

I really like cruising through my bookmarks by just holding Command and hitting 1, 2, 3, etc.

Mozilla announced the launch of Firefox 3 web browser today. Firefox 3 is said to incorporate over 15,000 improvements and claims to be over two to three times faster than its predecessor....

lol and people were saying Apple largely exaggerated "Over 300 new features" in the Leopard release...

Latest Safari

Sorry to go slightly off topic, but the new Safari / webkit or whatever with Squirrelfish or whatever that people are talking about it, few quick questions:

are people sure it's as secure as the Safari Apple offers on its website?
is it advisable to get the nightly builds?
where do you get it?

Thanks.

Scrolling problem

Has anyone noticed that scrolling is not very smooth with FF 3 when doing a "two finger" like I am doing on my MBPro trackpad? It seems choppy.

Then when I do it with Safari 3 it works perfectly. Anyone else?

I think I'll stick with Safari. It seems more 'integrated' then the other web browsers, if you know what I mean.

1. Security? It's secure as long as you are aware of what websites you are visiting. Maybe someone else wants to clue us in if there are any new features.

2. Nightly Builds? It's advisable to get them as long as you are not running it on a mission critical computer. Personal computers are fine. If it is a company computer, you may want to stay away until the final build.

3. Where to get Safari 4? Apple Developer Connection. Sign up!

Did you enable smooth scrolling in FF3? It helps webpages scroll smoother, but at a slower rate.

FF3>Preferences>Advanced>General tab>Tick "Use smooth scrolling".

Nightly builds are not fully quality tested but are usually well unit / automated tested. So it is possible for issues including security issues.

With that said nightly builds can have the latest fixes (sometimes for security issues) in addition to having the latest features.

Visit... http://webkit.org/ for nightly builds. Safari 4 is only in beta via ADC at this time.

Fun to try out but I don't suggest you depend on it... luckily WebKit nightly builds are self contained and shouldn't interfere with Safari on your system.

I've got AdBlock but I am getting ads everywhere... what's up with that? And yes it's on.

When I first installed AdBlock it asked me to subscribe to some websites, but I didn't chose any, and I think that's why no ads are being blocked. But I can't figure out how to get that pop up to show again so I can chose to subscribe.
Hello,

Sorry if this has been answered already but....

Install this:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4364

Then visit this site:
http://adblockplus.org/en/subscriptions

Then install EasyElement+EasyList

It's still firefox in all of its bad font glory.
I came across a really ugly bug in the first 30 seconds of using it too.
I clicked the zoom button once to make the window full screen and then I hit it again, and instead of going back to the size I had it it went to this:
Picture4-1.png

EDIT: and of course it still can't pass the acid3 test. Although neither does the current build of safari, both the nightly webkit build and safari 4 can.

I'm getting the same problem!

is it just me or was FF3 available a few days ago if you already had RC 2?

I've had FF3 for a while now.

so why is it that i tried updating it, and it says that no new updates are available?

I just can't get into the Safari thing. So many sites just don't work with it.

FF Forever! :D

I noticed that too. It's smooth with Safari. weird.

noob question, but do you have to uninstall FF2 and then install 3? I don't want to lose my bookmarks.
