Morally speaking, I think the right thing is to contact Apple
to return the extra machine. But that's just my view. Yours
may differ.

Quite apart from any moral or legal concerns, you may want
to consider what will happen if you ever need that machine
serviced, or if it ever phones home with its serial number.

LOL, what a story! Of all the luck. :) Well, you called Apple and told them so I guess the ball is in their court. By the way, I take donations in the form of Mac Pros. ;)

When it comes to free gift's I won't feel any guilt or negativity.
And why should I?

You guys are all saying it's wrong... it might be so, but you're missing the point entirely. First of all, I didn't steal the machine from someone else's property and I didn't find it while walking the dog, it didn't falling off the back of a truck (so to speak). The delivery guy asked me to sign for the goods being delivered (to my property) and I did... Is it my fault I received more than I ordered?

I don't think any one is missing the point. It's not a free gift, a gift is intended and obviously this wasn't. Let's forget the moral issues with this though as this thread might serve as good information for anyone else who has something similar happen in the future.

Whatever you decide to do, I wouldn't go setting up the extra Mac Pro just yet. I don't know how Apple deal with orders, it may have been that your ACD got changed to a 2.8GHz MP somewhere along the line and it seems likely that will be on record.

when we did the back to school promo in the UK (Buy a macbook + nano, get 95£ rebate) we received 3x95£ rebate checks instead of 1.
Apple didnt email or anything about the checks, however we decided to return the 2 which we weren't due, we received no notification from apple that they had received the returned checks. Therefore i think apple are pretty unorganized when it comes to this stuff, dude keep the MP.

I consider it a free gift, considering I didn't initiated it in the first place. But IF and when Apple comes knocking, telling me they delivered something in error, then I'll return it untill then, it's a free gift and Father Christmas does exist.

Checking the online store, everything I ordered has been accounted for except this. And when I called Apple about this, they don't have any records of it.. so, why the hell should I waste my time for a mistake someone else did? You go think about it for a while...

I might just do that, first i'll give them 30 days to find their errors....

keep that mp but dont set it up for 30 days...
if they ask you something you say you called and the guy you talked to did nothing special about it and that now its too late ... :D
anyway "free gift" not so much when you see the price of apple MP on japanese apple store....

personally i want to buy the base model and its 350 000 yen on the apple store and can be found at 250 000 yen (1000$ less) on some other stores (with same apple guaranty of course..). i dont understand why someone will order a mp from apple in japan... ^_^,

Now what did they say about assumptions? :D

Likely Apple will do a yearly inventory, as its almost the end of the year, they will find out about the missing MP and will be investigating where it went.

I don't get it, you are obviously getting a big ego woody from telling everyone on the internet that you got something from Apple for free you didn't ask for, or even deserve from an objective standpoint, and now you say you don't know what karma is. Are you asking for something? :)

Even if you don't know karma, it sure as hell knows you; whether or not you'll post later that it introduced itself to you is another story

Either way I hope you get what you asked for, it still looks like you are owed a monitor

Yeah, I posted this thread online cause people and companies make mistakes.. and other benefit from them. Besides I've called Apple earlier regarding this.. what else you want me to do? Deliver it for them?? I'm quiet sure, if they want their system they can arrange to have it picked up. It's hardly my fault if some geezer printed an extra label...

As for Karma, try telling that stuff to someone with belief, me? I ain't religious.

I say to keep it! Apple will be contacting you soon or later about it and when you do they are going to ask for it back or charge you for it. Remember you signed for it so it has been documented that you accepted it.

i agree. apple will probably find out sooner or later...which wouldn't be until after the holidays. This has happened to me before as well. I ordered a new instal disk that came with my computer. they sent it 3 times...however they never did find out about that or ask for it back. you may be in luck. People will tell you to take the moral high ground and what not, which is fine, but their is opportunity as well. :) call it greed or selfish but we are what we are and everyone is a little bit of those things, nothing to be ashamed of just human. Now if the guys computer you "acquired" was in a life and death situation and had to have that mac pro for little jimmy on christmas day or he might take a short walk off a tall building...thats a differnt story. :p

Totally pointless post mine is by the way.

Cheers :)

That'll helps keeps the population down... hehe

I say congrats. Keep it. But I have no idea why anyone would post about it. Can you even use it at all? If not hold on to it a bit and then ebay it. I mean you did call apple about it right? Even if you didn't come out and say "Hey you guys sent me a Mac Pro by accident, do you want it back or can I just keep it because you made a mistake?"

Well I don't know the laws there (you're in Japan right?), but I'm pretty sure there are ways for them to get their stuff back.

Apple will hire the Yakuza to waste UltraNEO*...so he/she had best be wearing a bulletproof vest. :D ;)
