It's funny but it wouldn't even take much to make the forum match up :) The gradient changes would be easy, getting 'rid' of the borders should be easy but may not be (I dunno since I've never modified a vBulletin, just really heavy SMF and Invision modding).

Still, it was a nice redesign :)

I just want to give a bank thank you for the larger page number buttons in the forums. I have not tried it on the iPhone but on the iPad the forums are way easier to peruse now. I'm sure this was a highly requested feature and my fat digits are so thankful you've added it.

Arn, when will we have the iPhone friendly view for the forums added back?

I can't stand the mobile version of the forums, and the full version's text is too small. :(

Maybe this is me and not a macrumors problem but before the update my safari top sites would update with the star when the page was changed so I would know there was new material. Now that's not happening anymore. Anybody?

Lemme look into it.

Yes, a few people have reported this. I can't figure out how Safari detects new content or not. So it's hard for me to fix.

There is also a SIZE tag bug.
Signatures and posts using a SIZE=1 tag seem to have bigger text than it should be. It seems to be limited to Safari though (did all the usual crap about resetting Safari already).

er. nevermind. it is safari. :)

Yeah, but I can't cope with Opera (which I actually loved when using Windows, but nowadays I try it every month or so for one day, but can't find anything worth staying, even the gestures) or Firefox (one tab open, 180MB RAM used, what the ****?) or Chrome (Google).

Anyway, does your little snide at Safari mean that it is a compatibility issue with Safari and the new design (strange, as the forum shouldn't be affect that much, should it?)?

no not at all. my original post was "what browser is it". :) So I edited.

Are you sure you don't have any extensions installed? Here's how it looks on my Safari.

Ah, thanks. Didn't see you pre-edit post.
I have ClickToFlash, Cloudy (weather icon in toolbar) and Reload (reload button) installed.
I will delete them and see if that works, as deactivating didn't do anything.

Deinstalling didn't work with them either.

What's in that?

Lalalalala (slowly walking backwards, with head sunken) la la la

Yep, that was it. Thanks for the help, didn't think of that.
I have a 17" MBP with 1920 x 1200 pixel, and currently use it as main machine, thus some texts seem very small.
And I just found out, that the 2004 17" MBP had 1440 x 900 pixel, quite low.

Thanks again, seems the new design has not ****ed up my enjoyment of this board, but I did. :)

arn - the main page and forums are extremely slow loading for me, not sure if it is the rendering or the actual load times - it was never this slow loading pages previously (i am in australia).

are you aware of what might be causing this? it is 12am here, so internet traffic is low in my part of the country.

thanks

Recommend adding website bylines to the "links" section on home page

I'm starting to like the redesign pretty well. I particularly like your use of the icons when linking to other articles.

I recommend adding the byline for toucharcade.com and appshopper.com to the "links" section on the home page macrumors.com. Below the words "toucharcade.com", I recommend adding the website's byline: "...Keeping you in touch with the latest in iPhone gaming."

The current byline for appshopper.com appears to be "iPad apps, iPhone apps, Deals and Discovery at App Shopper - Popular Recent Changes for iOS." That doesn't seem current; the site also tracks apps in the MAS. I don't have an exact recommendation for an updated byline; something like "Tracking deals and interesting applications in the iOS and Mac Application Stores".

I hadn't known about the appshopper.com site; it's a great resource and one of the best I've found to complement the MAS itself. The point of the bylines is to make it as easy as possible for macrumors.com users to find those two winning sites.

Input on new site design

love the community, love the new site design, can i get the left hand column back though?

the leaked redesign photos from the wired article show it

i feel like with the new design i can't get as much information without scrolling

what to you guys feel?

is there an option to change it back ??
this redesign is ****ing **** ! dont redesign something that works ???
i dont get it every big company doe sit and they shoot themselves in the foot,.

I agree. Why change something that already works?

Agreed. Everything is way too large and spaced out now and I have to scroll to be able to see everything. Before I was able to see a lot more info much more quickly.

Since the redesign the new RSS feeds don't seem to update in Safari so I never get an indication that there is a new front page article.

I agree, I really dislike the mobile version of the forums, and the regular layout doesn't work well on the iphone screen. I really liked the 'iPhone friendly' layout where the column normally on the left is placed above each post. I saw above that arn is looking into it, so thanks!

Please bring back the article voting on the front page.

Why?

What were you voting for or against when you voted on an article?

What were others voting for or against?

Online polls are meaningless.

Would be nice if this could be fixed...

I've been looking into this. But I can't figure out what Safari uses to determine new content. Has anyone tried deleting and re-adding the site to their top lists to see if that helps?

arn

I think I've figured out the safari top sites issue.

Should be fixed by the morning news cycle.
