“don’t form points as question... IF"
It's a conditional, meaning IF you phrase it like that, you will get answers like this. Considering at least 2 other people answered it too, you can see why there could be some confusion.
Okay, points for syntax.

So let me get this straight, you ALREADY have to be a paying Disney+ subscriber, and ON TOP OF THAT, you have to pay $30 to watch the movie?

You can't just pay $30 to watch it by itself like people did with the Trolls movie a while back?

What a blatant and ridiculous cash grab. Sadly I think many people will fall for it and Disney will make a fortune, because people are so starved for new content during this pandemic and those who are still gainfully employed likely have a lot of extra cash from not being able to.. well, do anything. :(
People have been handing their wallets over to Disney for years on end and now people complain about a $30 movie? some people spend their entire life savings just to go to Disney.

There will be thousands of screaming kids wanting to see it ASAP and parents will pay $30 to shut them up. Imagine the high licensing fee for the merchandise come Christmas! Thank God for birth control.
As has been pointed out higher in the thread, this is a PG-13 movie, and kinda like it may be a little — saying “adult oriented” makes it sound like porn, which it presumably isn’t, but likely more violent than most Disney “kids” movies and maybe not good for the “Frozen” set. So I’m not sure if it’ll have quite the same push into toys and tie-ins. Eh, but maybe they’ll prove me wrong.

...the strangely obligatory snacks and drinks.
Theatres lose money on most films after paying for distribution and performance rights. The drinks and snacks make up a huge percentage of their profit. That's why they push it so hard.

Just a FYI but X Men Days of Future Past is unedited for a PG-13. yes language.

So in the end .. movie theaters have been disintermediated, you pay less, studio gets the same or more. You have to feel this trend is going to continue
The movie theaters have some things that just can’t be replicated at home - the 30ft tall screen, the feeling of shared experience and excitement when 800 people gasp at the same time when something is revealed, the whole ritual of queuing up to get in and the excitement building before the film starts.

I see the trend you mention continuing, and I’m torn...

The not knowing if the disease you catch is CV-19, the flu, or just a bad cold. The 45 minutes of previews. The 10 minutes of commercials leading into the previews. The fun of guessing what it is you just stepped in. The tech bros in the row behind you who keep babbling throughout the movie. The person in front of you who won’t turn off their phone screen. The occasional mass shooter.

We'll try not to antagonize the other patrons while you are there. :D

It's a business strategy playing the FOMO mentality of today's society. It's a smart strategy as a business imo. It's up to us to be the smarter consumer if we don't want to fall into this trap. :)

Agree that the theater experience is unique. However, their days have already numbered even prior to the pandemic due to their failing business model. The pandemic simply hastened things up. My prediction is that the classic movie theater will become a more niche experience targeting specific segments instead of the traditional jamming the maximum number of people in a tiny room. Heck, maybe we will be seeing the drive-in experience returning to match the new normal of physical distancing. :D

I actually have to tip my hat off to Disney for at least adopting this new model of releasing movies. At least they're trying things out instead of trying to stick with the old distribution model (and potentially losing more).

They have lost their minds if they think $30 is a reasonable price while millions are losing the jobs and homes.
Compare the cost of going to a cinema with you family members, and the $30 will surely look like a great deal.
In a downward economy, people will actually be more willing to spend money for entertainment. Just look at how much money people are spending on games.

They should’ve waited a little longer. I would wait a couple more years just to have this premiere in theaters. Since they’re rushing this out, though, I still hope they plan a theatrical run sometime this year.

Did you really think that $7 a month per subscriber is enough to pay for a blockbuster movie like Mulan, on top of covering the costs incurred with running Disney+?

It’s an interesting experiment and if successful, it could pave the way for more Disney movies skipping cinemas entirely and and bringing them first to your living room TV directly, provided people are willing to pay.

What this might portend for cinemas, well, that will be fun to watch.

$30 for a family of 3 or 4, who can eat all the popcorn they want for a 10th the cost of the theater, and who can re-watch as many times as they want, seems reasonable to me.

$30 on top of a subscription to be able to rent Mulan. Yeah, sure. And everyone on September 5th be like:

If you’re broke, single or myopic, or some combination of the above, the movie release isn’t for you.

Total bargain for a family who can watch it together then let the kids rewatch it endlessly.

I’d like to see more of this, but not tied to Disney Channel.

If you’re single well I’m sure you can find some free entertainment to get off on online until you fix that. Price will drop after a couple months no doubt.

Even a student household would find this cheap. 4 or 5 people chipping in for a new blockbuster is nothing.

Most families now have decent TVs too. Only time I see a small piece of crap TV is when I’m renting an AirBnB in the Scottish Highlands or somewhere life is 30 years behind the rest of society.

Like I’m going to read every post of the five pages. But thanks for your comment.

If Disney+ was connected to MoviesAnywhere I could justify this, but no way should a $30 movie be locked behind a 2nd paywall.

Utterly ridiculous. Should have just released the film in 2021.

Equally ridiculous is that Apple will get a cut of sales made through the Disney+ app.
