Isn't U2 extremely outdated nowadays? For me, sure. It is very 2000 isn't it?

2000? They are very 1987 at best, if even then. Stale.

The older generation's pop culture always gets embarrassing when it is held on too long.

I don't hate U2. However, I'm not sure why Apple is doing this. I don't want that crap loaded onto my iPhone. If I wanted garbage preloaded onto my iPhones i'd be rocking an Android device. U2 is for my grandpa to listen to. It's not for 2014.

The interesting thing to me would be if this marks the official starting point to the end of non digital music. This has been coming for years but still today any big artist that has a new release you can go out and find it on CD. Fan or not a fan of their music would still be a pretty big deal if U2/Apple announced that they only way to get new U2 moving forward is digitally. No CDs. No vinyl.

They still sell CDs?

i hope these will be deletable... not part of the firmware or im gonna be pissed.

If "Moby Dick" is a sound stage for U2 to perform on, I'll be very disappointed. What would be funny is if the Da Anza students going there refuse to form a crowd and just blew them off since they are neither rap nor hip-hop. I'd think Iggy would do better for that crowd.

At least they didn't hire the Stones nor Dylan!

Please, they are just going to announce:
U2 Beats Pill
its so obvious :p

That makes more sense. U2 and the Dre for the iPhone 6 launch?

I hope this pans out to absolutely nothing. I want a phone for the functionality; not for a "bundled experience". If you want to bundle something, bundle a case with the phone.

lets analyze it this way….."we wish we could say more…"

does THAT have anything to do with U2?
whats the name of their new crappy single?
new crappy album?

ok this is a possible song title "This Is Where You Can Reach Me"
and that could relate to the notifications anywhere feature…..

I want a phone where my battery isn't defective and then they give you a replacement phone that only has a 90 day warranty…and that one fails 11 months later too

sorry for the rant

Not sure if launching my new flagship product with a concert from a now completely irrelevant band is the direction I would take things. Coming in with mediocrity when the market is flooded with good offerings is pretty meh.

Market flooded with good offerings? Are you kidding? Music (term used loosely these days) has steadily gotten worse since the turn of the century. Talent-wise it's pretty much in a nosedive at the moment.

Thank God for Josh Homme and Dave Grohl. We'd be screwed otherwise!

It would be absolutely insane if U2 was there to promote the ipod. People are already trying to paint Apple as uncool and "the phone for your parents". This would just play into their hands. Sure, be the musical guest at the end, but please no ad tie ins.

what the hell? i see literally an iPhone in EVERY kids* hand these days. not joking, as i server, i see lots of teens, and I'm willing to bet 8/10 of them have iPhones probably more like 9/10

(18 and under)

I love all the "irrelevant" comments. Their last tour, you know, when they were so irrelevant was the largest grossing tour of all time. More than the Stones. More than Coldplay. More than Foo.

You are more irrelevant than U2 ever will be. I trust Apple.

I do love Foo Fighters, but your saying there are no other talented musicians out there other than 2 people is not only your opinion. It is one I am sure many would disagree with. I would agree the talent has become worse (personally I like to keep my listening to the 60-70s) but there are a lot of talented musicians out there these days. Unfortunately it seems many of the good ones do not get the publicity the trash gets as they don't feel they need to supplement their talent with constant tit shots and twitter beefs.

You sure do not work in production with an unlimited budged.

The budget has nothing to do with it, the other person said "I bet they decided on this last night because of the leaks" and I am pointing out that they've been building this for at least two weeks, hence it was not decided on last night. Unless you're suggesting that Apple has invented the ability to time travel!

If U2's new album is preloaded on the new iPhone the first thing I'll be doing is deleting it when I get the phone.

Irrelevent my Ass......;)

They still sell CDs?

Absolutely, because some of us don't care to pay $10 for crappy 256kbps songs when we can get lossless versions on CD for the same price or less and rip them at higher bit rates for portable players and keep the lossless versions for home.

This is more laughable than ANY of the stupid iWatch mock ups!!!

They say never say never... I'm saying NEVER will Apple force their tens of millions of customers to have preloaded content that they may like, they may love, or they may hate.
How even one single person on this planet has the infinite stupidity to believe this really, really, really, really, really unrealistic rumor is beyond me...
Remember the U2 iPod?? I do. It was a limited release, OPTIONAL TO BUY, edition of the iPod that a VERY small percentage of iPod owners CHOSE to purchase.
I personally don't mind U2's politics (though I honestly can't stand their blander than tofu, soulless music). However, I'm CERTAIN that there are people that may despise their politics and/or their music... there are factions of certain religions that don't believe in listening to music at all, etc... to believe that Apple would piss everybody off to promote an album that nobody has been waiting for... by a band that did their best work two decades ago... for precisely ZERO benefit to themselves is so stupendously moronic; I'm running out of words.

Here's a realistic guess:
U2 is in a new Apple commercial.... OR Apple allowed them to shoot a music video entirely with iPhone 6.

Take your pick. It is NOT the rumor being bandied about though.

Why Apple insists on periodically dragging these musical corpses (U2) out is beyond me.
Can't Bono just go back to the 1980's and leave us alone?
