Looking at the width measurements on Apples compare page... The mini with its flat edges may very well have just about the same screen width as the SE.

I love the features of my 12 Pro. I do have a little bit of eye strain on the display compared to my 11 Pro but I thankfully don’t get headaches and assume I’m just adjusting. It’s the weight that is still bothering me like it did with my 11 Pro. Though it’s a little easier with the flat side not putting pressure on one point of my pinky.

What do you think of the display on the 12?

Why not go back to an iPhone 11 Pro? Its weight isn’t too far off from the 12. You get the rounded edges back and a body not much bigger than the SE2020.

The weight is just like a little brick. I realize it’s not really that much more, but it FEELS heavy.

I was actually noticing that when I hold the SE2 and the 12, the 12 almost feels lighter, because of the weight being distributed differently I’m sure, but of course the overall size is not as good to use with one hand.

That could be possible - just not sure I’m willing to try another dang phone. Apple might just ban me from their website.

And truthfully, I’m almost 53 and my eyes aren’t getting better with age. I think having the ability to zoom to a nice size is really helpful.

Oh I LOVE the display. It’s amazing! And it doesn’t seem to be bothering me. I’ve been looking at it a good bit in the dark (I always read on my phone before I go to sleep). Of course I’ve been just having a lot of headaches in general lately from stress (youngest of my daughters getting married in A few weeks), so maybe I wouldn’t even notice. ;-p

Oh congratulations and best wishes to your daughter! I’m glad you’re loving the display.

I’m considering switching from the 12 Pro to the 12. I’d actually go for the mini but I can’t type on a display that narrow again. My Pixel 2 was a problem for that reason. My other option is to switch hands for awhile and hold the phone in my left hand and give my strained right hand and pinky a break. Pop sockets aren’t helping. I’ve tried something similar to a loop like with your Loopy cases but that doesn’t quite solve the problem I’m having.

It’s the weight. I never thought I’d have this problem. I guess decades of button mashing on video games took their toll. My large but light Samsung S20 isn’t too bad. I guess I have a lot to think about.

The weight of the mini would be amazing, but I’m in that same boat - just don’t think I could deal with a keyboard that small. The SE one was already too small. I likely wouldn’t have upgraded at all if I could type well on it, or if talk to text actually worked worth a crap.

If you do get rid of your 12 sell it here!

I’m sure someone would be really happy with your unit. It looks like you won the screen lottery from the pics

My SE is going in trade back to Apple. My oldest daughter bought herself a 12 Pro from her earnings. Instead of sending her Xr in we are keeping for younger family members since it’s a better size for games. I wanted to go back to just one iPhone so I offered up my SE for the trade to bring the cost of the Pro down for her. We had matching iPhones and she’s a little disappointed I’m struggling with the weight of the Pro.

My hands really hurt. Dang. I haven’t been holding the phone that long. I pick it up, read a bit, put it down and talk to family. I’m doing other things.

Another reason I don’t want to go quite down to the size of the mini is I can use the cases we just bought and screen protectors we have coming in.

I just hope the 12 is going to be light enough. I don’t want to do two returns.

Thumbs up for @ssledoux's post. I am second to all of that.
Today went to BB and tried 12 and 12 pro. Luckily they were sitting between inch together and had a no weight anti-theft cable attached. Long story short i had a great time (30 min) of using my SE2, ip12 and ip12 pro.
Summary:
1) Iphone 12 feels much nicer in hand and the weight is almost identical to the SE2.
2) Iphone SE2 in the apple leather case is 1:1 identical in width to the Iphone 12 without the case.
3) Iphone 12 XDR display is amazing. I have airdropped photos from Iphone 12 to my SE2 and compared side-by-side.
Verdict: Iphone 12 had much more accurate and live/vivid colors, overall difference was as day and night. Then i have compared 12 to 12 pro screen, and noticed that 12 pro has a little bit better display/colors. I would say 5-10% better. But it is really hard to distinguish.
4) Iphone 12 pro was really heavy and brought back forgotten memories why i didn't buy 11/11 pro.
5) Sides of the iphone 12 looked much better than shiny side of 12 pro.
6) So i put my se2+apple leather case on top of iphone 12, and 12 was only half inch taller and that is it. All the difference is half inch taller. But the screen size increase is really appreciable.
7) Camera: I can see that iphone 12 had more complex/new lens, so the photos looked better on 12/12 pro rather than my SE2. BUT the difference was something really pixel pipping. I would say that 12/12 pro main cameras are better by 20-30% in average scenario. I took a photo of far away objects/texts, and iphone 12/pro was having 10% better clarity of the small text when zooming, but still both are readable, and when SE2 photo is not readable, then 12/pro is also unreadable. Of course i am not talking here about all that night super duper shot modes, telecamera and extra wide lens. I am talking about the main, original lens and usual point and shoot scenario in BB.
8) PWM. It was noticeable when i looked through camera, it was big until 70% of brightness, but overall it didn't feel like a problem. I used oled displays earlier in samsung galaxy s3, that also should have got terrible PWM, but i didn't notice.
9) Overall i liked Iphone 12 much more than pro. But with the only caveat - only if used without the case. If case attached, this thing will be too wide for my taste.

My wife has a XR in a nomad folio case and not once has complained about it being heavy, goes in a handbag when out, it’s usually men that carry in pockets that do.

I had an XR for a year, then an 11 for months before the SE2. I use my phone to read on a lot in bed at night. That’s when I find the weight to be an issue - not when it’s in my purse.

Mini's screen is slightly narrower. (not my pic, taken from another thread)

The Mini (133g) with a normal case (20g +/-) has the same weight (+/-) of the SE without a case (148g).

And if you use it naked, puffff

Is going to be a little beast.

I agree it will be, but not really interested in playing musical phones again. I would have to see it in person first. I’m still not 100% I’m returning this 12 - trying to give it as much time as I can.

I’m in the same boat the 12 and 12 pro feel great with our a case but with a case too wide.

With smaller phones I like to rotate them into landscape mode, if I'm typing more than a short sentence. My two thumbs fit better that way.

My hands and wrists are still sore today. I badly wanted all the crazy camera features of the 12 Pro but was crazy ordering one when I already found my 11 Pro too heavy.

One problem I do have is the display on the 12 Pro makes my eyes water. It’s harder to focus on text for some reason. I absolutely do not have that problem on my 11 Pro. But I’m not getting headaches, so it’s not hopeless. The weird thing is I can read text in dark mode on my 12 Pro but can’t really focus on it in dark mode on my 11 Pro. I really hate being me sometimes. 🤪

At some point when the pandemic isn’t so full blast I’ll go to my doc and see if I have arthritis starting up in my hands. My mom has osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis so it’s possible I’ve got a bit of that going on. I know there’s a bit in my left hand from a severe injury years ago. However I hold the phone in my right hand and that’s the one with more problems right now.

I just may be coming to the end of my time with smartphones. Sigh. I’m not even 55 yet, but apparently I aged like milk.

Hmm. That’s an idea for the mini. Let me try it on the SE. Ok the SE 2 is a little bit too long for that. But the Mini is shorter. I can hold the phone differently. Wow, this could work if I go mini. 🤔😯

That little bit makes a noticeable difference for sure when you’re holding it up for long periods. I’m still on the fence today. I ordered myself another SE (my granddaughter already confiscated the other one), but cancelled. It’s just a da** phone - just cannot figure out why I am so flipping indecisive. There are just certain things about each phone I love, and I can’t decide which are my priorities.

I did notice that looking at it for a longer time last night made me feel like my eyes were burning, but IDK if it was strain, or if I was just tired.

I have to decide soon. My ATT return window is nearly up.

Don’t feel bad. I know you’re getting a lot of (hopefully) good natured teasing about this. But as you can see I’m in the same boat. The last couple of years I’ve had neurological problems that make me come across kind of weird social media-wise with the people who think pwm sensitivity is some sort of mental illness. Now I’ve got the problem with my hands cramping. I was the family photographer so I really prized the camera features. But my husband and my teenager are now taking that job on more and more. I’m going to have to compromise.

I’ve done okay on the SE’s battery life. It’s not ideal, but I’m home a lot so I can throw it on the charger and like you noticed it fills up fast.

I think @mainelyme suggestion could work for me if I get the mini. I had enjoyed the large screen real estate on the 12/12 Pro. But I have to be realistic about my prospects for success now. My body has changed a lot since I joined this forum when I ordered my iPhone 6 Plus. Technology has changed a lot. Sometimes the two aren’t cooperating as well as they used to! Lol.

I’m going to miss the flexibility of having the zoom lens, though. It’s great for portraits. Maybe someday the third lens will trickle down to the aloooominium models.
