Nearly an ounce. It’s not quite a half ounce heavier than the SE. The weight is really nice.

Ok have to handle the 12. With the 12P it’s a heavy phone and since I like to try and use it 1 handed it’s top heavy because it’s obviously longer in length than the SE2020.

I still can’t decide on the color on a 12 pro max. I love silver but I usually buy white phones. Should I go graphite? Ugh I feel the indecision but it’s fun though haha. I hope my local Best Buy has them.

Finally found the best description for my issue with size and weight of the 12P. It’s not that it’s a big or heavy phone blah blah.

It’s not a phone for a person like me who lives a very active lifestyle both at work and at home with the need most of the time to be able to use my phone 1 handed WITHOUT fiddling it around etc.

If I don’t live a very active lifestyle then the 12P would be perfect.

Finally found the answer.

I really wanted a white phone this year, so I was planning to get the 12, but the extras of the 12 Pro swayed me. Silver was my choice. It's a very light silver -- someone somewhere described it as "frosted white" or "frost white" instead of true silver, which is accurate. If you wanted a white 12 Pro I don't think you'll be sorry with silver.

In my opinion they really don’t make silver anymore, just the stainless steel around the sides are silver. The 11 pro’s are a pearl on the back, which is very nice. Now the 12 pro’s are another variation of white, so no silver on the backs anymore

Yeah the pro is probably a noticeable difference in weight. I definitely notice an ounce of weight difference in the phones. I realize that’s really nothing, but you can definitely feel it. That’s why I went with the 12, even though the price difference at that point (bumping to 128) was getting close. Going to a 12 from SE was a .56 ounce weight difference, whereas going to a 12 pro would’ve been 1.44 ounces difference, almost exactly the same difference as the 11 pro, which I had already tried, and knew it felt too heavy.

I think because there’s such a little difference between the SE and the 12, along with the size of the 12 distributing the weight differently, it’s not noticeable. The size is of course, but I have never used any phone completely one handed anyway - I always use two hands to text unless I’m just doing a one word response or something. It’s probably part of the reason trying to text on the SE was difficult for me. With a Loopy case, I can do almost anything else with one hand anyway - it’s so much easier to reach with that loop on there versus something like a pop socket.

I love the longer battery life, but I miss how quickly the battery charges. It throws me off when I pick up my phone and it’s only charged like 20% more.

I love the idea of the mini for sure. It’s gonna be such a great little phone. I just knew I had to rule it out based on my experience with the SE. I still think the 11 pro in aluminum would likely be my perfect size/weight phone, but that’ll likely never happen so here I am. ;-p
Both phones charge the same amount, Einstein... just because the se shoes you 100% doesn’t mean there’s more juice in it.
Btw you are not the person in your avatar but sure that helps to win over the nerds.
Unbelievable how much time some people invest in smartphone details instead of just using them and having a life.
I was hoping for some insights from early adopters but everywhere it’s only nerd talk..

Got my blue 12 now btw and the Color is really great, not the Lego brick done pictures suggested. In a case with a clear back it looks more black than blue indoors.
Everything else is mostly like on my XR was but even faster (never needed that or felt a delay but it really is faster).

Sorry, but a smaller battery charges more quickly than a larger one, so it reaches 100% more quickly, “Einstein.” And you can feel free to think what you want about my avatar - I don’t have to explain/prove myself to you or anyone else. But I’ll take your comment as a compliment. ;-p

Feel free to exit the thread at any time.

My 12 pro charges so much faster than my 11 Pro Max ever did. A nice surprise downsizing. :)

At first I was feeling like the 12 took forever, and my SE would charge so quickly on my iPad charger (not the USB-C), but then I put the 12 on the USB-C charger, and it definitely charges a lot faster. I think the SE would still reach 100% first, especially if I put it on that USB-C charger, but it also doesn’t hold nearly the charge.

I have no idea what that person is on, but any phone I've ever had with a smaller battery charges quicker than a larger battery. Just plain physics. And I guess my avatar of a tree isn't politically correct either because I am not a tree. Go figure...

LOL yep, and hey if I can “win over the nerds” at 52 with an avatar pic, I’ll take it, even if someone doesn’t think it’s me.

I’ve definitely been there, done that with big, heavy phones. I haven’t had a max only because when I got the XS Max, the OLED bothered my eyes/head, and I didn’t keep it. With the 11s, I was just afraid to try OLED again. This year I figured I might as well since it’s likely gonna be on just about all the phones going forward. I have learned more about the various settings, and I will say the phone isn’t bothering me like it did before.

I actually had my hands on my sister’s 11 pro this morning too because she was over here. I love the size, but it just really reinforced that the weight is an important factor for me.
I know what the difference is in grams but can you really feel a difference? I’m in so much physical pain using my 12 Pro and my 11 Pro. I have a Samsung s20 that’s about a gram lighter than the 12 but it’s also narrow. iPhones are wide and have a different center of balance so it’s hard to judge from my S20.

I’m trying to get a sense of what my next move should be. Mini or 12. I don’t really want to try typing on the Mini. I have to see if the 12 will be enough weight reduction to end the pain. I guess I just have to buy it and try it. That seems so wasteful to me if it doesn’t work out, but Covid is spiking up again here. I personally know of two new cases among our school community. I can’t bring myself to enter the mall to get inside the Apple Store.

With articles warning of supply constraints I don’t know whether or not to preorder the mini, which is at this point my second choice, or try the regular 12 and hope for the best.

The pro phones also really drag on my jeans pockets. I say this as someone who used to stuff the 7 Plus in there. They’re definitely a little chunky.

I wish I could use them though. I loved my 11 Pro and I think the 12 Pro is amazing. If it were a normal year I’d pop on over to my doctor to see what’s going on with my hand. As it is, he’s backed up and I will be lucky to get in for my flu shot and a quick heart check. We took one of the kids to the pediatrician yesterday and the protocols were wild. It was extremely difficult just to get through the building. On the plus side, my new 12 Pro actually worked inside the building. My intel modems were useless in there before.

Entering into this phase as is usual for me this time of year. I placed and canceled two 12 orders (one white, one black) and two 12 Pro orders (one PB, one Graphite) before ending up in a Verizon store launch morning and walking out with a Graphite. Having used it for a week, the initial size shock coming from an 11 Pro has pretty much worn off while the adoration for the new form factor has persisted. Every time I pick it up it's like "damn that's nice".

All that being said, I was pretty sure I'd end up buying a Mini when they were available since I'd still be in the 30 day return window for the Pro. Now that I'm liking the Pro a lot more than I thought I would, I'm having second thoughts. My wife refuses to let go of her 8 so I have a free upgrade just sitting there waiting to be used and I have an old jet black iPhone 7 in the closet as a backup should something happen to one of our devices. So now my thoughts are to trade in the 7 (Apple will give me $100) which would leave me at $601 for the 128GB after the military discount. Seems like a good way to spend some of the money I'm saving on not going out/traveling these days.

My first ever iPhone 12 Pro arrived on the 28th after shipping from China on the 26th! Unbelievable FAST shipping. Had to call AT&T to get it connected to my old flip phone cell number which took some time but no big deal. BIG learning curve between the flip phone & the iPhone. No problems so far! I like the Pacific Blue color & waiting on a case. Good luck to all and stay safe.

So what did you decide?

I like I said I would have to handle the mini BUT what I wanted was the same size as the SE2020. It’s possible that the mini might be too small.

As I think about it I think why the mini is smaller than the SE2020 in form but larger in screen size is because of the larger screen it would be easy to navigate around like the SE.

Wow congrats! I have a coworker, man in his 50s who isn't into tech, and got an SE as his first CELLPHONE. Talk about learning curve.

*I* feel a difference, but it could be because I’m looking for it. I felt like it was noticeable holding the 11 pro vs the 12. I think also the 11 pro being a little smaller makes it feel more solid if that makes any sense. Maybe it’s the weight distribution on the 12, along with it being lighter, that makes it more noticeable.

As much as I think I’d love having a tiny, lightweight phone, I realized this morning I can type and actually READ texts on my 12 zoomed without my reading glasses. I absolutely cannot do that on the SE2, and I highly doubt I’d be able to on the mini. After having the issues typing on the SE2, the mini really just couldn’t be a factor for me, even though I know I’d love it.

Thank you so much for the insight. I am a couple years older than you and have to deal with farsightedness while also still being nearsighted. Lol my eye doctor has some fun every year working out my prescription. Most of the time I just don’t wear my glasses at all when I’m using the phone. For a nearsighted person that’s sort of like wearing reading glasses

I worry the Mini is going to be too small when I need to use the GPS. I have three automobiles now and the oldest is 28 this year. It’s the only car I ever bought new. The other two are old hand me downs and even the newer truck doesn’t connect to phones easily. So I navigate primarily via iPhone stuck in a cup holder! Lol. I need to see it at a glance. Mostly I rely on audio instructions and my Apple Watch to thump my wrist so I don’t miss lane changes and turns. But I do like to check and make sure I haven’t gone off the path. And for that I do count on having a display big enough to see quickly.

I do wish Apple would let the reviewers present the phones a day or two before preorders. I guess they think that might cause some people to not order at all. But I think that is better than having people order phones they don’t do well with and having to return them. That seems so wasteful to me. I don’t think reviews could have prevented my issue. I had no idea how badly the 12 Pro was going to hurt my hand. My 11 Pro is heavy but usable. This hurts like heck. I don’t think a review could have predicted that for me.

But for people who ended up with colors they hate or inadequate battery life, reviews would have helped.

I’m going to get my return started this weekend. I want my daughter to compare her phone to mine and pick which one she likes best. They are identical colors and specs. Mine might have a better display. I’ll return the one she doesn’t want.

If we return mine, I keep my 11 pro. If we return hers, we keep my SE since that is the phone that was offered in trade to get the price of her Pro down. She bought the phone herself through her dad’s account. But it’s from her earnings.

I don’t particularly care which phone I’m left with.

It really does seem like you have made the right choice and simply just need a period of adjustment from the SE2 in terms of physically handling the device.

Well I’ve been buying Apple phones for the last, oh IDK 10 years or so, and I had only ever returned ONE before this year. ONE. This has not been normal practice for me. I have not ordered 2 every year to try and make up my mind and then send one back. And being indecisive during a short period of time because needs change does NOT require medication.

But I agree about one thing, and that is being thankful for the ignore button.
I think Apple just isn't doing as good a job at creating that one knockout phone that people love. No Steve Jobs or Jony Ive leads to aimless design.

the mini is going to be sold out for months.

I agree. I think the mini is gonna be one of the hottest sellers they’ve had in a while.
