Never knew that was even an option. I don’t really pay attention to those details. ;-p

I usually have a case on, well actually always, so IDK if that’ll be an option for me.
It works with a case on. I have the Apple silicon and it works well

Seriously yall? This is flipping awesome! I hope it’ll still work with my Loopy case, but it definitely works with my makeshift loopy silicone case I’m using, and it’s great!

I really need to start paying more attention to the features. ;-p

I got my 12! I was so shocked that not only was it lighter than my 12 Pro, the weight distribution feels completely different. There’s a top heavy aspect to the 12 Pro that had been adding a definite strain to my hand that I did not fully appreciate until I got to use a phone with the same dimensions but a different weight and weight distribution.

The display is also a bit better on the 12 vs the 12 Pro. I guess that’s just part of the screen lottery. My daughter’s 12 Pro has a slightly better display than my 12 Pro does, too. Her 12 Pro display and my 12 display are more alike.

I’ll miss the 2x lens but I won’t miss the hand pain and extra weight in my pocket.

I got the Product Red. I am happy about that because I was going to miss my Product Red SE.

The SE’s red is a better red in that it is a very pure unmistakable red. But the 12 red is more cheerful to me. It’s a little lighter and warmer. I always liked my daughter’s coral XR, which I have pictured on the left. So I view this red as sort of a mix of two of my favorite iPhone colors. Red SE is in the middle.

Good choice!, I switched from a 11 Pro Max to the regular 12 because of hand pain, very happy with the light weight. Still thinking about maybe trying the 12 pro but it sounds like the weight in the hand is a big difference.

I can’t get it to work on my phone. Screen shot works, but reachbility won’t work. It’s weird.

Edit: whoops I forgot to turn on reachability.

Sure it's convenient but i did some testing with my 11 pro before i sold it, took photos with 2 x then same but with the 12 manually at 2 x and couldn't see any difference.
Red looks nice.
But the telephoto lens is also used for the portrait mode and especially for the bokeh effect. I saw a couple of examples of portrait mode photos from the reg 12 and the 12 Pro and the pro wins every time with much better results (more natural, better edges détection, progressive bokeh).
Indeed if you are using so much the portrait mode the it will be fine.

Glad you tried the 12. I do agree there is something about it that does make it feel lighter. I actually picked up my old SE earlier because I had done the software updates on it for my granddaughter, and it felt heavier to me. I know that is weird, but I think it’s just the fact that it’s more weight in a smaller package - makes it feel more solid if that makes sense.

I hope the 12 will wind up being a good middle ground for you, giving you that bigger screen for more usability, but the lighter weight you need. I’m glad I stuck with mine.

It's your conscious trying to avoid the returning of the 12 to get the SE again hahaha

I´m on the 12 too, I was 100% convinced to get the Mini this year, but the 12 feels good in weight; a little big maybe, 5,8 would be just perfect, but is what it is.

A perfect size iPhone 12 for me would be a 5.5 inch in length.

That´s the mini my friend! 5.4, I still think is going to be great and I will give it a try. They couldn't do the 12 smaller because is the replacement of last year 11... I guess

The key is to use the phone without switching back and force with other model, because you struggle with the benefits of one or the other (the 12 big screen, the Mini lightness and one hand use).

I put my SE 2020 to sleep all week to test the 12 properly; if I use it again of course I will feel the differences. BUT I didn't had the need to switch back to the SE these days, that is a good signal (I remember switching between the 7 and 7+ every day, because the + was really annoying).

Lol maybe, but I haven’t really thought about it anymore, and when I picked the phone up it just felt really solid. I’m past my return window, so 12 it is. I’m stuck with it now. ;-p

Thank you! I think the mini would have been easier on the hands but harder on the eyes. At some point I do intend to check out a mini in anticipation of next year’s offerings to see if it is a feasible consideration. But for now I’m happy to go with what I know.

I think I’ve got a good compromise here I can live with. My hands don’t always trouble me and the inflammation I have dissipating at the moment is definitely from the 12 Pro. It started the day I activated and started using that phone and is easing up with the use of this one.

I’m loving this happy coral red color. My daughter has given me her Pink Citrus MagSafe Silicone case to use (while she is using her Caudabe clear case for her blue 12 Pro) and it’s a perfect match.

I used to have a yellow Xr and I really did like the 6.1” display size. I just didn’t like the weight of it, though I didn’t struggle with hand pain back then.

If Apple keeps the Pro line heavy steel I will just keep with the regular aluminum phones and save myself from the fruitless purchase and return scenario next time. I can digital zoom on this fine. I do miss the 2x for portraits but I don’t shoot those that often anymore since we discovered my husband is the one with the gift for taking portraits. The cameras of the 12 will suffice!

I currently have the 12 Pro and it’s heavy. I have complained about the size and not optimal 1 hand use but I’m actually starting to get used to the size coming from an SE2020. My pinky is actually aches from the weight.

Is the 12 noticeably lighter than the 12 P?

Yes it is noticeably lighter. Other members of my family compared them and agreed there’s a difference you can feel.

It’s not just that there’s a weight difference, but a weight distribution difference. The 12 Pro feels much more top heavy than the 12. I have seen mention of that elsewhere on MacRumors but it was hard for me to know exactly what they meant by that until I got the 12 and felt the difference. That has ramifications for the stress on the hand needed to keep your grip steady on the 12 Pro. Most people won’t care. But I think any of us dealing with chronic joint or nerve pain will be sensitive to it.

I still don’t know if this lighter better weighted 12 is small enough and light enough that it would give you the one handed ease of use you’re looking for. I just typed the last few sentences with one hand with the aid of a pop socket extending my grip. But it’s not easy!

I put the pop socketed case on while my pinky heals from the weight of the 12 Pro. It’s still a little bit sore when I put weight on it. By next week I should know if I can be completely without pinky pain using the 12 in my silicone case without pop sockets. If not, I will continue to use the pop socket.

With the 12 Pro I could not even use the pop socket to spare my hand some pain. It just caused the other fingers supporting the Pop Socket to hurt. That Pacific Blue 12 Pro was so beautiful but I just didn’t enjoy using it.

I think it’s around an ounce or so difference. I don’t remember exactly. And really that seems like nothing, but when I compared my sister’s 11 pro to my 12 last week, it was noticeable to me. I feel like the 12 doesn’t feel heavier than my SE2020, and I think it’s because of the weight being distributed over a larger device. There’s a half ounce difference between the SE2020 and the 12, so coming from the SE2020, you’re looking at about an ounce and a half more with the 12 pro (Or really close to that - I don’t remember exactly).

It’s weird how that makes a lot of difference in a phone.

I’m sure the pros will be stainless since that’s more premium. I’ve always preferred the aluminum because of weight, and because I like the matte look of the aluminum vs the shinier SS. I had a SS Apple watch for a very short time, and the difference in weight between it and the aluminum was noticeable on my arm. I only buy the aluminum watches now.

On Product Red, when I order my 12 mini I may spring for it. I'd like to see it in real life first though. When I get a Product Red device I usually want it to be in a similar shade to the 2nd gen iPod Nano below. The regular 12 is probably the sweet spot size for most people, but I want my phone to be compact while still packing some power and battery life. I expect lesser battery life for the 12 mini, but the mini being easier to pocket will win me over regardless.

That ipod red looks very much like the red that was on my SE 2020. The red that’s on the iPhone 12 has more of a coral tone to it.
iPhone SE2020 on top. Coral iPhone XR in the middle. New iPhone 12 Product Red in the box.
