trust me others agree

like I said the design etc is stunning and its my fave looking iPhone but as soon as you put a case on there goes the design

Whether anyone agrees is irrelevant ..... my point being this is hardly a ‘review’ .... it’s pretty much you being underwhelmed which is exactly why Apple have the return policy.

anyone can call themselves a photographer ..... I am also a ‘photographer’ - a pretty bad amateur
But I’ve read reviews of the camera contrary to your one line review of the camera. As for the the case covering the design of the phone, well no shock there really .... or is there ? .... couldn’t you see that one on the horizon ? Doesn’t that happen with every iPhone that you cover up ? 5G ? Surely that’s an issue with your carrier and/or where you use the phone not really anything to do with the iPhone 12 pro.

He explained why he’s disappointed, and it’s his wife’s phone as stated in the post
I don’t need you to speak for him. I am pointing out he knew ahead of time and still bought after coming from the 11. He isn’t getting bashed so, he doesn’t need a defender. I am asking questions. We do that on a forum.

Edited to add: I am not against him returning the phone. He can do as he likes. I think his expectations were way too high, given he is an experienced updater and knows year to year is incremental.

Edited to remove incorrect attribution of quote.

I have a 5d Mark iv and work for tv, I have shoot all of the celeb award shows and been in the industry for years, trust me I’m a pro

As I’ve stated this isn’t my phone it’s my misses phone she went from 11 pro to the 12 pro, I’m waiting for the pro max coming from 11 pro max but the only thing I’m excited for is the improved camera on the max as I’m a photographer, but everything else still stands

He is returning his phone.

Post #2 “Well that does it. I'll return my iPhone 12 Pro.“

Dude. You’re still getting it wrong, so you DO need me to speak for him. It’s his wife’s phone. Read the original post before you comment.

That’s great to hear and sounds a really interesting job you have although the fact that you feel the need to throw in the model of your camera and that you shoot celebs removes a little credibility IMHO ..... from a pro I would be really expecting a more detailed ‘review’ about the camera from your perspective, not just a one liner that it’s bad. There are plenty of ‘pro’ reviews out there that disagree with you.

The biggest mistake Apple made with the iPhone 12/Pro was that they retained the same 3 year old notch (will now be 4 years) without any reduction in size or complete elimination.

The redesign is great, but because the notch is the same old design for the past few years now, the redesigned and “new” iPhone has less of an impact and isn’t as exciting or interesting as complete iPhone redesigns. So it’s more or less the same as the 11.

Pretty underwhelming redesign. The only good thing that came out of the new iPhones is the Mini.

5G = Worse than LTE in the UK
DESIGN = beautiful but once in a case looks like any other iPhone
Bezels = bigger as the screen is flat so looks more out dated like the 11 bezels
Camera = isn’t much better and done a lot of testing and I’m a photographer
MagSafe = the biggest gimmick of 2020
Speed = same as the A13 in real use

In my honest opinion coming from someone that used to que up every year for hours just to get the new iPhones each year and still see my self as an apple sheep I’m mega disappointed, I’m waiting for the max but my misses got the pro yesterday and I really think it’s the worst upgrade ever on an iPhone, using it makes it feel like any other iPhone, like I said the design is much nicer but eveyone uses a case so you don’t even see it. The bezels on the 11 pro are nicer because it’s rounded these might say they are smaller but it doesn’t look like it, apple come on this isn’t the apple I love

hence, why I don't go crazy and pre-order in the middle of the night to get it the first day. last few years most carriers will have these on sale a month after release. I got two 8 pluses a month or so after release on a BOGO deal from AT&T

If it is his wife’s phone, he should have said in post #2, I am returning her phone. It makes no sense to call her phone “my phone,” which he did.

There are no pitchforks here. He can do as he likes. I am not bashing him Apple wise or personally. I am done trying to have an honest discussion in this thread.

That’s an awfully clickbait-y title OP for how few specifics you actually provided.
  • Design - we hear this complaint from people every year. Why? Because it’s true for every iPhone. Cases cover everything but the screen. Put a case on an iPhone and you can’t see the design. Nothing specific to the 12P there.
  • Bezels - The 11P had slightly bigger bezels. But the curved glass created the optical illusion that they were smaller. One of the trade offs in the new design. Honestly though, I find it somewhat silly that people are still obsessing over bezels these days. We are now talking about fractions of a mm differences.
  • Camera - you need to give some specific or post some pictures. Saying “I’m a photographer” doesn’t cut it. What conditions did you shoot in? Which of the lenses did you test? If you just went and snapped some shots in your sunlit back yard, you’re likely not going to see much difference. In any case, we are really at the point where the camera gains are marginal year over year. You need to skip a generation to see a big jump.
  • MagSafe - Again, in what way? Seems to do what Apple claims it does.
  • Speed - iPhone chips have been more powerful than needed since A11 or A12. Nothing new here.

And the cameras are great not saying there not but I’m saying from the 11 pro it’s not much change very slight if u look for it

My issue with the camera is yes it’s already great on the 11 pro but the marketing and demos showing how amazing nightmode on every lens and the shots don’t add up I tested it for hours and it was slightly better but you had to look for it, it’s not as groundbreaking as I thought from what they said, but I’m excited for the max

No one's demanding it, he just said he'd supply it.

Of course it matters not one jot whether he's a pro photographer or not; though I'd expect a pro photographer not to expect an iPhone to stand up to a DSLR. But he said he'd give his portfolio and I'm curious to see it! :)

Never read too much into the marketing/hype, you'll almost always be disappointed. The new cameras are "better", but they aren't some gigantic leap or anything.

I'll be honest, I never cared about the notch. Would it be nice to have a smaller one? Sure, why not, but it doesn't bother me in day to day usage. Maybe if I used notchless phones more often and swapped between them I would notice it.

Completely fair criticism. Do you have any comparison shots you could share? My guess is that Apple is taking all their night mode marketing shots on a tripod to enable longer exposure times. Any time I have taken a night mode shot with my 11P, it has been hand held at 3 seconds and the quality is never that great. I keep meaning to buy an attachment to mount it to my tripod but I never get around to it since I always get a better night shot from my DSLR anyway.

Did you test out anything else with the camera? Does the LIDAR sensor help with night AF and portrait shots?

I am also waiting to see if the Max offers real world benefits from the larger sensor and sensor shift stabilization. If it does, I will reluctantly be going up to the larger size for the better camera (something I thought we had left behind after the 6-8 Plus days). Otherwise, I am going to hang on to my 11P for another year.
