For all those iPhones hitting KY, don't be surprised if you don't see any movement on them for a day or so... I'm sure Apple issued a HOLD and there's 0% chance we'll be receiving these phones early...

Finally! Apple still says preparing for shipment but it shows up on UPS.com 
I ordered a white 32GB 4S, about 2AM PT (completed the order at 8:30 or 9AM PT) shipping to San Francisco. It's in Shenzhen right now.

Still no sign of my 64GB Black 4S on UPS or FedEx. Apple stays preparing for shipment. I called Apple and was helpfully told that to deliver it by the 14th they only need to get it "on a truck" a couple of days before delivery. I opined that it might start its journey in Shenzhen China and the guy laughed uneasily then assured me it would arrive on time.
Miffed but still reasonably confident of a Friday arrival. Losing hope about Thursday.
ETA: Bingo! Just showed up on UPS. The world is green again.

No update yet from Apple
I ordered a 64gb white iPhone 4s from Apple on the AT&T network at 5am PST Friday. I am checking the Apple website, the UPS and Fedex methods with both the order number minus 2 digits and also my phone numbers. I am still not seeing anything? Any suggestions? Maybe mine will ship from the US?

What time did you place your order last friday? I ordered mine 4:09pm EST and just got the email today at exactly 12:00pm EST and mine is still on China.
I completed my reservation with Apple at about 12:30 AM PT Friday, but they were unable to connect with AT&T's back end. So Friday morning I completed the order.
But as edited above, I have a tracking number from UPS, obtained by using the reference lookup trick.
You're on the west coast. The journey from China is much shorter for you, and therefore doesn't need to leave as early. OR, it could very well ship from the US.
Why hasn't my phone shipped yet?
I swear I should make a PDF or something with all of the information and FAQs about product launches and have a forum mod sticky it so everyone can print it out and keep it as a mousepad for all of the constant clicking and updating xD
Basically, it is currently 12:24 AM in China right now (12:24 PM EST). All of the UPS acceptance centers are closed. The airport freight hubs only remain open for sort and destination processing, and overnight flights but they STOP accepting packages at a cutoff time (at airport times are usually around 7-8PM local time, depending on hub and area). As well, Apple's factory subsidiaries have been shown in the past to release phones at 2 times of day: 5AM China Time and 7-10PM China time. Remember that China is a day AHEAD of us, so your phone may ship on Wednesday here, but it will be Thursday there. Meaning once it travels here it will still be Wednesday in our timezones.
At this point, I would wait until 5PM EST tonight for an update, if for some reason they ship them out first thing in the morning as well (they could change around delivery times, all depends on demand).
If you are worried you can try the "Track by Reference" trick that's been discussed, or you can blab to me in my inbox. I don't mind helping
Just got the shipping notice!! "Reserved" around 2am PST, completed the order around 8:30am PST. I ordered two phones, but only received one shipping notice (with Apple.com's order history, it's also showing that one has shipped), but the tracking shows that there are two packages...so who knows. I was hoping that I would get one of the phones that are already in the states, but it's coming all the way from China...hopefully it gets here on Friday!
It depends on who you order from. Last year, a lot of orders from Apple were actually delivered a day early, including mine.
We bought (2) 64GB Black through Verizon at 1:30am MST on 10/07 and still do not have an update that it has shipped. It says it will ship the 14th which seems like BS to me. We should at least receive it on the 14th as we had to be once of first 10% to order since we were only 30 minutes from the time that they were available to order.

Mine has landed in Louisville
Mine arrived at Louisville, KY last night at 1:58am. Seems like all the 4S's are being shipped to Kentucky and then sent out to all their locations days before the release so no one will get them before release day. Makes sense since they chose the midwest to send them out. It'll be equal shipping time everywhere in the US.
