My iPhone 6 Bent. What now?

My iPhone 6 bent after just 2 days in my front pocket (regular jeans) with slip case on all the time. I treated it with extreme care and always took it out of my pocket while driving. Saying it's impossible to bend an iPhone 6 is blind ignorance IMHO.

So. You must have all the bad luck in these last 3 weeks. First you get some 'screen of death' and now you have a miraculously bent phone.

Seems like you have nothing but negative experiences with Apple products since you just started.

Almost seem like you just signed up on macrumors just in time to complain about the new iPhone.

Of course it has. I've also mentioned that in my posts. Thats why I'm not using that as a real measure of an issue. Was just saying that I was hoping for better reception of a phone I've been waiting for so long (I'm on iPhone 4 and want to finally upgrade it)

I can guarantee you that ANY iPhone released is going to get the same ridiculous, over the top scrutiny that iPhone 6 is getting. People love to knock down the top dog, and if you wait for an iPhone that gets a better reception, then you will be waiting a long time.

Every iPhone has had some "big issue" wrong with it and every iPhone has become a huge hit, the alleged flaws forgotten once everyone realized how overhyped they were.

He's a longtime lurker.....

Loves Apple.....honestly!!!

At first I was erring on the side of user error, but the more of these posts I see the more I actually believe in there being a real design flaw here.

Sure, "BendGate" was obnoxious and hyped up in the beginning. People purposely bending iPhones didn't help the case of those whose phones actually bent with normal use, even "babied" use. The fact of the matter is that we can expect an aluminum phone to bend when you purposely, with all your might, attempt to do so. The problem is when the phone bends regardless of going out of your way to be careful NOT to bend it.

I also can't even entertain the folks who respond to these bending claims by saying that people shouldn't carry the phone in their back/front pockets. Really? Should Apple come out with a special iPhone 6/6+ fannypack? Where else would someone carry their cellphone? What an idiotic suggestion. It's a phone. If you can't carry it in your pants pocket without bending it or WORRYING about bending it, there's a serious issue.

There have been 8 or so iPhone models prior to the 6 and 6+ and none of them have had widespread bending issues. I'm starting to really believe that there's a design flaw with these phones and at some point Apple is going to be forced to REALLY address it.

This is exactly what I'm worried about. Is Apple being the victim here or have they neglected something? Consumer report shows how the phone is tested in the middle and not in the weakest point so even the consumer report is not really that accurate when we take physics into account.

What I actually really hope here is that Apple will address this silently by improving the weakest area so in a month or so the issue will not get reported anymore and everyone will be happy. Phone has to be carried around in a pocket otherwise its useless. Yes, I can stop sitting on it like I do with my iPhone 4. I'm all ok with that but I don't want to worry about anything when i just carry it around in my front/back pocket. I want to get the iPhone 6 so I can have it for 4-5 years just like I did with iPhone 4. So I want Apple to do well here.
Would love to be able to know the real truth about this "issue".

Btw, Antenna gate was an issue that couldn't be addressed in the production but they did redesigned it with iPhone 4S cause there was a better way to tackle the issue and prevent it from happening. However, from the iPhone internals it does look like there could be a tiny tweak to enforce the weaker area. I may be wrong but I believe that this one could be silently improved so we don't have to wait for 6S :)

Do you guys think that might happen or will we see it in 6S?

This is all bull. I took mine out of the box and tested it face down on a glass coffee table. It's not flat at all. Top left and bottom right corners are ok and top right and bottom left there's like 0.5 mm space between phone glass and table when I tap I feel it. Out of the god damn box.

Making it thinner and rounded made it weaker. 5s is much stronger because it's smaller and has a vertical edge not round one. Apple lost it clearly.

People need to stop being closed minded to this being an Apple error. It's ridiculous to say that this is a user error and that you shouldn't have put the phone in your pocket.. Its a phone and these things are designed to be mobile. I've very rarely seen any claims of people bending their iPhone 2g, 3g, 4, or 5, so now all of a sudden when many people are bending their phone, you take that as everyone all of a sudden became reckless?

Saying that it's their fault for the phone bending by simply putting it in their pocket is like if the Mac Pro had a widespread issue with plastic inside melting when you do projects on it and then you defending Apple by saying that people shouldn't be doing large workloads and stressing the processor on them. (i.e: using them the way they're supposed to be used)

That bend test was only pressure in the middle of the phone, and as you can see from most or all reports, this phone bends at the volume rocker. Also, people saying that they've had their phone for 2 weeks and that it hasn't bent does not mean that others aren't having theirs bent; you are not a conclusive all-in-one study.

Best thing to recommend is get a replacement and put a hard case on there that will give it more structural support. Maybe Apple will release another bumper fix, this time with a metal bumper that will hold the phone straight.

It's not bent. Stop with all this non sense - Apple iPhones don't bend, period.
All in all, it's just an illusion.
OP, your phone seems just a little sad - try taking it out for a ride.

Also, watch out for Apple requesting this thread to be removed.

won't apple replace these for free at any point in the lifetime, as it's a flaw? or is just within the first year or two? if it's at any point in the lifetime, i don't see why people are concerned about it bending.. if it bends, you get a new one.

its a design flaw. Simple.

If it was designed to bend, i would imagine Apple would push that feature :D

Has Apple said anything about it yet?

Good one Tim!

I love Apple and had every iPhone since the 3G, also iPads and MBPs....but Apple is no godlike instance (at least for me)! If I pay almost 1000 bucks for a phone i want it to just work and withstand my everyday use! Both iPhone 6 I had couldn't handle this, unlike previous iPhones I owned. And yes, I really hope I just had very bad luck!

Yes, have some common sense people. How the **** should I be using my phone then? Huh? For now I resorted to wearing pants with side pockets, so when I sit I'm not putting any pressure on my phone. This is really hilarious Apple.

This one more example that Ive is a crazy **************** with his form over function obsession. Thanks a bunch.

Listen...get the phone or don't.

Most of us 10 million that don't have an issue will say go for it and the 0.00001 % that are 'claiming' there is a bent issue will say avoid the iphone 6.

Stop worrying about what users on here type and make a decision. If you cant live with the worry that your phone will have some issue then dont get an iPhone 6.

There are lots of options and the users on here (me included) don't have any real insight in the manufactering process of the iPhone and really can't tell you that your phone will never have issues. Any phone (Window, LG, Samsung, etc..) can have issues, so get a new phone enjoy it. Life is too short.

Wait theres still time. You'll notice it eventually.

OP, if you really like the iPhone 6, but are concerned about a replacement bending again, I would have Apple replace it and try using the phone with a somewhat ridged case. For example, the speck candy shell case should provide significant additional protection from bending and damage. There are lots of cases that will do the job.....I just thought of the candy shell case because they are ubiquitous and come in lots of colors and styles.

If you pocket your iPhone 6 Plus and it bends then it's your fault. End of story. These phones are not designed to be carried in pockets. You do it at your own risk, but please don't go crying to Apple if you do bend your phone. They should not be expected to eat the costs of damage caused by your decisions.
Oh this one is rich. Then where should we be carrying them? Duma, you have outdone yourself this time :D

How much did Samsung pay you for this post

j/k. Sorry for your bent phone. I hope you can get it fixed somehow.

That's not happening. If you bring them a bent phone you have to either pay for a replacement or have the Applecare Plus plan.

really? i could've sworn people on this forum and elsewhere have taken theirs in to apple and gotten them replaced for free with no issues.

Bent it like iPhone

One thing I've always look forward is to own an iPhone as I heard their service cannot be match by any company. I often heard if they find any issues with their products, they straightaway replace it. But all these rumors turn out just hypes when I start having problem with my iphone. It's sorry to see so many customers standing in line to give complaints exchanging hot arguments with the service executives. I hope apple cant afford to serve the customers as before. Gone with Steve.

Apple stated somewhere (so don't ask me to show it because I can't remember where) that if a customer has bent phone to bring it to the Apple store for inspection. Depending on the case they may replace the phone. Every other case you have to have Applecare Plus, pay the $79 deductible and they will replace the phone.

It would be disastrous if Apple allowed no-questions-asked easy over the counter phone replacements for bent phones. It doesn't take but less than 5 minutes for social media to put that out in the wild. There would be people who dropped their phones, got small scratches from mild abuse and other sorts of things leading them to want a new phone. All they would have to do is bend the phone, bring into the Apple store and get a fresh phone.
That would apply to any manufacturer. That's the nature of the consumer.

I'd exchange it and hope for the best. If it happens again under normal use I'd switch to a different phone.

Right now the phones are so new everyone is in that honeymoon stage.

I am babying my 6 plus. However, I beat on my previous 4S after the honeymoon phase. Initially cased - later naked I threw it in my purse with keys & loose change. Dropped it multiple times on hardwood floors & cement. After over 2.5 years - at least 1.5 years no case - it's still perfectly straight with a few scuffs and tiny cracks on the edge. I will not go caseless with my 6 plus because I don't think it can withstand what the 4S did.

You have to ask yourselves, after the honeymoon phase, are you going to keep babying your phone? If it's not ideal for you to use as you normally would, I wouldn't buy it. Just my honest opinion. I'm keeping mine but I'm not a pocket phone person.

Thanks so much for just registering to post that. But I don't think it will be taken very seriously.
