They still ship with DVI-ADC adaptors?! I didn't think so!

And you shouldn't, because they never did come with the DVI adapter for the ADC displays. They come with a short DVI extension cable, because Apple's DVI to ADC adapter uses a slightly wider than standard DVI port housing. You can't connect two DVI to ADC adapters to the card without the short extension.

Mommy, can I have one just like that one in the picture! Oh Please, Oh Please! :D

Man, I hate delayed gratification...I want it now!

Does the 8800 GT use one or two power cables?

If you have the full version of Prey or Quake 4, I can send you demo files to use for benchmarking.

The 8800 uses one power cable, the socket on the Logic Board is hidden deep behind the cooling fans.

To all: The firmware version on the good Seagate drive is SD15. Is this the latest one?

So am I the only one here who has a 8800GT Mac Pro?

you're one of the few yes, mine isn't due until the 29th:(

This might be music to your ears:

I ordered mine on 2/1, with a "ship by" date of 2/25, and a "deliver by" date of 2/29. The computer came in on Friday. My last initial is C, I used my student ADC discount, and opted for standard shipping. This should help if you see any patterns in ship dates.

Another interesting point, the spec label says the computer is assembled here in the US, probably somewhere in Orange County since FedEx picked it up from Fullerton.

Man.... I was just starting to relax and calm down for the night! Now, here we go all over again.

No offense to you for getting your beast!

im not too disappointed, after all i was one of the later mr folk to order one, however it would be nice if the shipping time would fall in line with that of the us and oz

AD14 is the updated firmware. You can call Seagate with your serial number to confirm if yours has the bad firmware (the cache is not recognized). I got 2 7200.11 HD from Newegg w/bad firmware and sent back immediately. Don't have a PC handy to update - Seahate told me I needed to mount internally to PC and burn CD w/firmware update, etc. I ordered Samsung 1TB F1's.

"...to 8800 or not to 8000. That was the question."

Man, these internal pics of the 8800 are looking better and better everytime I see them. I couldn't wait, I already bought my new MP. I guess I'll just wait for the upgrade kits to start shipping.

I'm always impressed with this sort of thread.

Nothing to do with the kit, just that you had the restraint and patience to stop, during unpacking and take pics.

I'd be too busy ripping boxes apart and getting it all connected and working ;)

I had many years of experience in restraint. Believe me, my first Apple product was a 3G 20GB iPod. I took pictures, but I ripped the box, and lost the pictures later on. Things have gotten progressively better after that. I also keep all the boxes too.

whats that second Video Connector?

in my MacPro that i got in February of 07 i only got a VGA->DVI cable.

hm.......anything to do with the video cards or?

Some Benchmarks

Ok,

I was able to finish up the RMA stuff, and found time to install some software, one of which was 3DMark. Ran a test, with standard settings, in Windows XP SP2 with all the updates.

3DMark05: 17044
3DMark06: 13404

That is sick... I can't wait for mine!

Any chance you could fire up AquaMark3 on there? Also, what are your other specs in the system?

Be happy to test, just give me a a day or so. Starting to install software on the Mac side.

My system is the standard config, just with the 8800 added. I plan on adding another 2GB of memory in a couple weeks.

My MP 8800 is here!! The FedEx guy showed up yesterday with a pretty big package to join the other boxes of goodies...<snip - lots of cool pics>...

Can you (or anybody with the 8800) tell us what build number your OSX is? My replacement has the same build number as the one I sent back (9B2117). I'm hearing that there's a slightly higher build number shipping now so far with the MacPro's that have the 8800 installed. Could be just related to the video card or there could be a silent update to the build number that may come down via software update before they release 10.5.2.

more pics of it up and running on osx :D or small video of it running a benchmark would be cool as fan would be picked up :D

So when my 8800GT gets here, I'm going to have to plug that cable in? If so, how hard is that going to be?

It looks like the socket on the board is located right at the border between the fans and the open space where the PCI slots are (right around where the bluetooth module is). There is a small hole in the fan casing to allow the cable to bend smoothly and fit better. But I think you will need to take out the front fan assembly to get the power cable in if the X2600 did not come with them already.
