Sorry if it's been posted already, but does anybody have one of the 8800's yet that can tell us the build number of OSX on your machine? Thanks in advance.

Here yah go..I believe someone else had a slightly different build number?

And somebody did beat me to it: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/429257/. Ahh, the In-N-Out run was worth it!

Just in case you want more photographic proof, including of the nVIDIA card and OS build, please feel free to check out this gallery: http://picasaweb.google.com/feelitmon/UnboxingTheFruit. I warn you: Most. Ghetto. Unboxing Photos. Evar.

Here are answers to some questions posed in this thread.

Q: OS version and build numbers?
A: 10.5.1 and 9B2127

Q: Is the 8800GT just rippin?
A: I don't know yet, eeek! I came here immediately to fulfill my geekly obligations.

Q: Any issues with wake from sleep? Using UPS?
A: No problems waking up from sleep so far. I know it's a terrible risk (heh) but I don't have it plugged into my UPS yet.

Q: Anything odd about the configuration?
A: Nope, other than the nVIDIA and AirPort Extreme cards. I went with base hard drive and RAM, normal shipping, etc. Oh, my last name starts with a W, for whatever that's worth. I do work close to where the shipment originated, so that may have shaved off a day.

Now I'm going to get back to it. Yours are coming soon, I'm positive! :)

Ahh, thanks for that. I wonder if all new MacPros are now shipping with that build number or if it's just the machines with the 8800? I wonder if anyone with the MacPros that have the ATI cards could use this version and fix the graphics/freeze issues?

That's a good point! I think somewhere in this thread, I read that some people w/ the 8800gt were having lock up issues as well? I'll try and find it.

Maybe the earlier shipments accidentally didn't get the update?

Hasn't the problem with some of the Mac Pros been a sleep/awake/lockup/restart issue? And this issue was with some, not all, of the Mac Pros with the standard card? And one person gave a brief statement that he had this problem with his new 8800 machine, but never posted again and was asked by numerous posters for more details? With all the posts, maybe I missed something?

Yes, mine as well as a few others experienced graphics freeze and lockups not related to the sleep/wake issues - see here, here, here and here. Mine eventually started to do random shutdowns on top of the graphics/freeze issue. That's when I called Apple and got a replacement. And you're right about it being hit and miss, not every MacPro with the ATI cards had these issues - remember the recent iMac graphics issues?

Motion 3 and 3D Game benchmark results wanted

If you receive a Mac Pro 2008 (2.8, 3.0, 3.2) with a GeForce 8800 GT -- and -- you have either Motion 3, Quake 4, Prey, Halo, or UT2004, I would love to send you some benchmark instructions so you could benchmark with the settings we used when tested the Radeon HD 2600 XT and Radeon X1900 XT in our Mac Pro 3.2GHz:
http://www.barefeats.com/harper2.html

Also, if you are running Windows XP or Vista in a Boot Camp partition, we'd love to get your benchmark results on Quake 4, Prey, Halo, UT2004, or 3DMark06.

If they did it would be within the window they gave me from the start (3-5 weeks...ordered on Jan 20) while others are enjoying them already.

Prepared for Shipment!!!

I hopped on a plane today to head to TN on business (returning home Thursday morning) and when I checked the status here at the airport (addicted?), my baby changed status!

Before leaving for the airport at 10am I called Apple to express my concerns about the "first come first server" of my January order. I was very pleasant, not angry, and they offered to upgrade to next day shipping - who knows if that had anything to do with my status change today.

Ordered Jan 21st
Stated Shipment Date Feb 27
Pepared for Shipment Feb 10

Untrained Monkeys Working the FedEx Planning

FedEx is stupid. I'm in Colorado. My computer shipped "overnight" (Saturday to be delivered Monday). It shipped from California, as others have reported. But it arrived in Tennessee today. It's now gone from TN, I assume en route to Colorado.

For those of you who aren't from the US and don't know our geography (or those of you who flunked US geography) ... The US is about 3,000 miles long. California is on the West coast. Tennessee is maybe 500 miles in from the East coast. Colorado is about 1000 miles in from the West coast. WTF!?!?!

In addition, and I realize someone else mentioned this a few pages ago, somehow the computer lost 11 lbs en route. It weighed 65 lbs in California and now weighs 54 lbs in Tennessee. Someone's scales are way off.

I mentioned it... yes, very strange... who needs the keyboard/mouse/manual/adapters anyway. ;)

Seriously tho, I suppose Apple puts a blanket ticket to FedEx for a 65lb order and when it ships, FedEx updates the system to the actual weight. Just a guess.

My MP arrives in East Coast tonight!

Amazing - my MP is sitting over in Jersey tonight. I wonder if it will deliver tomorrow instead of Tuesday?!

Mine is parked in Jacksonville and has been since Saturday morning. It's still got another couple hours to go, but is confirmed for Monday morning delivery.

The anticipation is killing us!! ;)

Though, to be honest, I'm still researching which extra HD's I want to order and install (don't know if i'm going the softRAID route yet) and I don't want to get too involved with loading all my apps until that situation is settled.

Not to give a long winded lesson in how FedEx got it's start and why it works so well but...
The whole idea of the FedEx business plan getting off the ground and working so well was to have all packages flown to one location, sorted and back on a plane to the destination for delivery even if the delivery was in the same state it shipped from. A man named Fred Smith thought this up while in college and his Yale economics class professor told him it was the dumbest idea he had ever heard (he gave him a C for the paper he wrote outlining the idea). To keep this short but sweet, the guy started out of Little Rock for a hub but officials as short sided as his professor wouldn't expand the airport so he went to Memphis (where your computer is sitting :) ) and they agreed. There are actually 9 other hubs now besides Memphis but in this case it must be the best route for you computer to arrive.

Mine was "shipped" tonight as well, ideally leaving on the truck tomorrow morning because tonight's tracking just shows that the package data was transmitted to FedEx. I can't tell where it's shipping from yet, but here's what I have...

Ship date: Feb 10, 2008
Estimated delivery: Feb 12, 2008 by 3:00 PM
Feb 10, 2008 6:06 PM Package data transmitted to FedEx

Soon I will be alone :( My order has to be the very last one in the far back of the plane/boat.
