This post will probably get me shunned by my fellow mac users, but I say get windows.

Macs are underpowered, overpriced, and it's next to impossible to find certain programs. Macs also have many problems with overheating, etc.

The reason I got my mac is because I liked the style. It was the first computer I bought because of style, and not performance. I have self esteem issues and I didn't want people to make fun of me if I got a stupid looking laptop or whatever. I wasn't thinking right at the purchace.

If you want a mac, get them second hand, and get an iBook. I would've rather gotten an iBook than this MacBook, but hey, it was easier to buy this. And it was newer.

Get an HP. I was originally going to, and my brother did. I would just suggest getting an "Upgrade" from vista to XP.

Certain programs? Run Windows on it. Overheating? So do many other laptops, Dells have been exploding.

Why suggest an outdated product? Clearly he knows he wants a Mac, new.

I can't really see myself spending $300 on an already expensive laptop. And other students will say the same.

Not as much. MacBooks and MacBook pros can get to over 200 degrees, farenheit. I think I remember someone suing for third degree burns on their legs. The most my brother's HP get's is a little bit of heat near battery. And he's playing things the graphics card is certainly not set up to support.

And dells explode. All laptops can. It's the Lithium-Ion batteries, not the heat.

Why suggest a mac at all? I regret this purchase with all my heart, but because I paid so much for it, I'm using it constantly to try and justify this purchase, and I really can't.

Your posts sound like buyers remorse.

A computer is a tool to enable you to complete the tasks at hand.

If you purchased for the wrong reasons, such as a status symbol, then it is understandable why you are frustrated. That, however, does not mean others will be in the same situation as you.

While I don't agree with the "just use windows" as a really solid choice to back-up OS X's lack of software... I will say that windows doesn't cost $300, and if you're a student, you can almost always get it for under $50 at your college.

As for the temp issues... Apple laptops do get VERY VERY hot since apple slaps on ten pounds of thermal grease. However this is my max temp on my Macbook (and it's insane) and i've never had an issue with my legs being burned. NOBODY would get third degree burns on their legs just from the laptop being hot, because the base isn't going to come close to those temps.

I got the new Penryn model a couple of months a go and when I do video encoding etc, the cpu doesn't get any hotter as 70 c. First off I was a little bit concerned about this but after doing some research it is a very acceptable temperature. when I do regular internet stuff on battery saving mode like now the cpu is around 40 C. As long as you do regular internet stuff, listening to itunes etc the cpu won't run hotter as 50 C. Your lap won't burn if you don't do video encoding

I'm Back

So Did The Kid Get The Mac Or What?

I know some of you have been wondering what happened to me but I've just been busy, so sorry for that. Anyway, I went to the mall in Pittsburgh yesterday and visited their Apple Store and everyone was friendly and helped me out with using apple's beautiful machines and I really like like both the look of the hardware and the look of osx. Although, it's not set in stone and mom still wants me to get a dell in her heart, I will most likely be getting a MacBook. BUT I'M WAITING FOR THE NEW ONES NEXT MONTH! Btw, I'm still reading this periodically.

What did your mom say? Was she impressed? We are dying:eek: (figuratively that is) to know some info here... no seriously, your parents reactions can say many things.

They Are Right

Christmas 2006, before I had ever become interested in things such as iPhones, Macs, and Apple, I was very excited to receive a very basic entry-level toshiba laptop. That laptop died in May (God help his soul) and ever since I have been on the lookout for a laptop, but really never gave any other company thought, besides Apple. Rather than make a mistake I did a lot of reading up on Apple, Dell, Sony, and HP. But I still found Apple to be the winner. My parents aren't very computer literate and have only ever used Windows machines, so when I told them about Apple and how great macs were, they immediately put it way up on a pedistol and felt that they were only suitable for computer gods. They insist that I buy a Dell and have zero intentions of changing their minds. I told them that I would prefer to spend my own money so that I can get what I want, but they also insist that they buy it which gives them more influence over the decision and to make matters worse they have been listening to a quack job computer repairman who despises apple because he is not licensed to work on them. I told my parents that if I got an apple it probably wouldn't need to be wrked on but they persist. So other than telling them about compatibility with Windows in Mac OSX which I constantly tell them about (they don't understand) and hide the dell sales papers that come in the newspaper, what do I do???

That´s called Aware Parenting!
They are right!

The Macbook cracks; the Macbook Pro is crap;
The iPhone cracks!

Why buy Apple ? Do we have a taste for suffering?

*sigh* Why do people not see how this works both ways?

Let me give you something else (keep in mind, this is not completely serious):

A dell? That's called Stupid Parenting!
They are completely ignorant!

Windows blue screens; The Inspirons break at their hinges and wear away at the trackpad area!
The XPS weighs 15 pounds!
Their Pocket PCs have terrible battery power!

Why buy Dell? Do these parents have a taste for wasted money?

All computers have flaws. I own an Inspiron and a Macbook. I hated the Inspiron so much, I gave it to my mom. As a buyer, I have the right to purchase whatever the hell I want, and when you speak generally about things that do not work generally, such as issues with computers, and take nothing else into consideration, you're exaggerating things a little bit. My Macbook cracked, yes, and it is a problem Apple should fix...but I called them, and had my Macbook back and fixed three days after I called. I know it's an inconvenience, but Dell wouldn't even talk to me on the phone and answer a question about what this blue screen on the Inspiron meant, as it said it was a hardware issue. A year and a half later, the Inspiron barely runs. I've had great experiences with Apple and their customer service, so the answer to your question is: I buy Apple because I like their computers. These things are fair to bring up in conversation, but to just make a big inflammatory post about how everything Apple does is bad is not helpful to the OP.

Just so you know I'm not speaking out of my ass:

I practically broke my arm holding that 8 pound laptop for the picture. Worst $700 I ever lost. -.-

rofl. such pretty, pretty hair. haha.

but dells' customer service is teh pits. my friend had a dell for about a year, and it got a terrible virus on it, and they kept telling her to send it in, or they'd say, there's nothing wrong! . . although i didn't see it, i suggested she just do a clean-sweep of it all. idk what her father's friend did, but it worked. ah, windows and viruses just go hand-in-hand. kinda like peanut butter and bananas.

but it's fixed now, and i have a Macbook, so all is good and balanced in this messed-up world.

If you're worried about quality control and good hinges and none-cracking computers, get a Thinkpad.

Okay, I have a MacBook about 3weeks old and I love the new Mac OS X. I love how it syncs with my iPhone and how I can set up the calender and how easy it is to use with my AppleTV. I bought a MacBook for one reason only. How it works so easily with other Apple procducts. Apple does that job the best. I play games on my Xbox 360 which is meant for games. I got this laptop so I can listen to music, word process and do my work for school plus how it works with my Apple products. Windows is too frustrating how it works with it's products. Took me 10 installations on my PC to set up music streaming over my network to my Xbox 360. Mobile phones suck with syncing with PC period. I got NeoOffice or get OpenOffice for a FREE open source presentation or word processing or more! It's a little different than MS Office and it's not that big of a learning curve at all. Does it feel different? Yes, but it's worth the free price. The hottest my computer has ever gotten on my MacBook is 50C that's WITH FFXI running which is graphic intense for a MacBook. I have windows partitioned on my MacBook for FFXI and some school work. But it does everything I want or more!

If you don't like it, don't get it. Everything has it's pros and cons. Windows has the worst cons to me and so I went Mac. I hate how things sync on Windows. :/

Thank you for the hair compliment :p I hope it wasn't too sarcastic.

Yeah, Dell's customer service was terrible for me. My mom's been so impressed with Apple's customer service, actually, that she'll be buying an Apple laptop when the Inspiron dies (which, it's about a year and a half old, so...shouldn't be more than a few months :p It's already slow as all hell). It's also important to point out that my Macbook hasn't been perfect, but it's been a hell of a lot better than that Inspiron, and unlike Dell, I've had great experiences with Apple's customer service many times...someone else may have had a different experience, in which case, they can judge for themselves what fits their needs best.

Yeah. As ugly as they are, thinkpads haven't really had a design change in a long-ass time, so they've pretty much perfected that design to be as solid as possible.

Edit: By the way, my hair doesn't cover my face like that, usually. It was just the awkward angle I was in made it move over in a weird position over my face.

You are actually wrong. The ThinkPads suck ass. Their hinges crack very easily. We had laptops at my highschool for the last 6 years from IBM. And I've never seen so many broken hinges in 6 years. It cracks off the plastic easily. Also the plastic by the touch pad breaks easily because it's so close to the edge. I didn't even use my and it was cracked. The plastic chips very easily. They are pretty durable but some areas on the ThinkPad crack very easily. It's just any laptop has pros and cons you must choose what you want depending upon those. I hate my IBM ThinkPad. I've had 2 in the last 6 years. It isn't that great of a laptop.

Ah, well, I've never owned one. I was just going on what people generally say. :)

get a dell and put an apple sticker on it.
and can put leopard on too.

I did that with my old HP laptop. By adding the  sticker I hoped it would suddenly transform. Those stickers let me down! joking. But I did seriously do that. I'd still go 

Hey, that's a long post about nothing, so you must have a point in there somewhere.

And yeah, it's all you. You and your labeling and your ignorant ideology that windows gives you stability and the righteousness to to declare that you know something about computers, when you clearly don't.

I've been using various macs for 6 years now without a problem, so honestly, that makes you pretty os x dumb. I can fix my stuff, what's your problem?

I've done tech support for Apple, and what we would do to people like you, was to just send your "supposed" defective macbook back to you without a repair until you gave up or went back to windows. People like you are never happy and are always looking to prove that Apple is inferior
.

You can tell from your list of problems that you are a troll, a hypochondriac, and an intellectually inferior windows zealot.

I've got a plush bank account, a couple of cases of wine, and nothing better to do than hijack this post and turn it ugly. :apple:

Geez I sure hope that is not possible? You sir are an @$$! I was thinking of buying a Mac, Not sure of the model number but it's the $1799.00 one with the 24" screen. I was really looking forward to that day, however the fact that people like you exist scares me!
