Funny that, seeing as both browsers use the same webkit software![]()
Do you seriously think that between the time the Pre was announced (February) and 3.0 was announced (March) Apple developed a whole new OS? Yeah, that's likely...![]()
I really wish the iPhone UI was similar to the Pre's. iPhone UI is kinda boring looking and rather simple. When I jailbroke my iPhone, the first thing I did was change the AT&T logo on the taskbar to that new one with color.
We definitely need a new springboard or something. At least add some color. I know I'm not the only one who's sick of that black. At least let us change the background (without jailbreaking our phones).

I actually like the black but hated the dock area.
Some like what I did to my phone others don't but its my phone![]()
I agree with the OP that Apple should take a look at what jailbreak developers are doing, and implement some of their programs... things like Intelliscreen, statusnotifier, SBsettings... things that really improve the usefulness of the iPhone. They do it for OS X software, so why not for the iPhone.
have you tried scaling down the icons? It's what I would have done with a JB iPhone.
Nokia do indeed use Apple's Webkit to rasterize web-pages as does the iPhone.
But that does not mean the browser experience is in any way comparable. Any side-by side comparison shows the Nokia experience to be clunky and ugly in comparison.
As I said before, Nokia as no excuse for how bad their browsing experience is.

So Apple shouldn't add any more functions because they might slow down the phone? That seems a bit back asswards. I run those JB programs without any significant slowdown or crashing, there's no reason why Apple couldn't make them native. There are so many innovative 3rd party programs out there, but Apple ignores them and pumps out updated calculator apps and new 3G icons.the thing is not many care about these functions, which would obviously make the UI/Phone less responsive & more prone to crashing and overall slower, the Settings section is already a mess, with a better processor and more ram it would make more sense, but the 2g and current 3g owners would be pissed, I'm sure.

i absolutely love the pre's notification system. i hate how if i get a sms while i'm browsing or what-not i have to completely close safari..... open sms..... reply to the text.... close sms..... open safari....... and if i didn't have enough free ram i'd have to re-load the page i was already at. the sand-box thing is getting pretty old.
and yes, i completely agree that the vast majority of features they're touting as "new" this year are things it should have had since the beginning

Yeah and I'm sure all the features they'll add to future iphones could have been added since the beginning.
Clearly the current hardware is capable of supporting these programs. I'm saying they shouldn't be relegated to being JB hacks, they should be made native and implemented into the OS because they are genuinely useful and really improve the UI experience (obviously there should be settings so people who really don't want it can turn it off). There's no reason why you should have to jailbreak and install a 3rd party app to get icons in the status bar showing if you have new email, or to get a list of your iCal events on the lockscreen. Those are basic basic usability functions that should be native to the OS.I'm saying the OS will be more complex when Apple won't care about supporting older hardware. Until then, just JB if it satisfies your needs and it doesn't slow it down.
I think 3.0 will have a bunch of features that weren't in the beta including a new lock screen with all those updates.
I remember a while back Gizmodo had a patent from Apple on a lock screen with those exact stats. So i'm sure it's coming.
