if the sender doesn't have email on thier phone mobile me doesn't provide a solution

that's what progress is about, huh? Or is it about putting old technology in modern devices?
Either way, it's not your cellphone that doesn't have email, it's your Carrier that in some cases doesn't let you use it, in the other cases if you send an MMS to an email address, that person will be able to read it on any device, and you could receive it if he send you one at yournumber@mms.carrier.com, text at yournumber@sms.carrier.com

Many of these cell phones also connect as drives to home pc to allow straight file swapping (drag n drop documents audio/video) and in many cases spport multiple file formatts, minimising the need for faffy video conversions etc.

some of the above are expected with 3.0 but why take so long to perfect some standards? in some cases it will be little to late.

I have never came across anyone who has laughed at my iphone...in fact the oposite folks will literally drool over it....But it doesnt stop me getting bored with it at times:eek:

Air sharing has been out for a long time now with 2.0. Pretty close to your need for a flash drive.

For people who want an iPhone, 3.0 will not in any way be to little to late.

No one has ever laughed at my iPhone either. I was quoting another poster who says he gets laughed at.

Exactly the issue, since it has been released not much has changed.

*There are still bugs and missing features

Hopefully most are resolved in 3.0

If you had happened to purchase any other phone other than the iPhone and you had these issues its about 99% likely that you would have to live with them permanently. Name another phone manufacture that releases updates to its devices in the manner that Apple does. My original iPhone which I gave to my cousin will get iPhone 3.0 in the summer as will my 3G. No other phone out there to my knowledge has the software update support that the iPhone has. If you had bought any other phone you would not expect software updates. Why should your mentality towards Apple be any different? Your argument is very poor.

But it does annoy me when people complain about the iPhone so much. I mean, if the iPhone is missing so many important features, why did you guys buy it? If other phones have all the features that you want, then sell it on ebay and buy one of those better phones. Why don't you actually do something instead of spending so much time in forums complaining about it? I just don't get that mentality...

And seriously, MMS, copy & paste, tethering... IT'S ALL COMING IN A FEW WEEKS!!

100% agreement. Couldn't have said it better myself.

And if the software is so great why do apple keep updating it ?, people have been saying how great the software is for ages, would you still like to be on version 1.x

It might be totally differnt where you are, but people I know just laugh when the iPhone is mentioned nowadays because it has so many limited/missing or poor features.

Version 3.0, which improves things might hopefully make people change their impression of it.

Because companies update their products, lol.

I guess some people think Apple is perfect. No matter what phone you get your always bound to find something you don't like about it. The good thing about Apple is that with their firmware updates that can fix some of those issues.

No phone is perfect, I agree. Certain features cone standard on a smart phone and 3.0 will address some of those issues.

from a non iphone it doesnt work on ATT.
with that said you can set it up to go to a third party service.

have you read some of the threads here insisting apple is perfect.....sorry I could'nt resist

It is almost on par with the pre-will-totally-pwn-the-iPhone thread.

are you talking about my thread? because i never said the pre will pwn the iphone. i simply posted it to discuss the features and the possibility of it being a true competitor, since every other competitor failed miserably.

and even though 3.0 is beta, i'm sure apple aren't going to be adding many new features once it's official. the only major difference will probably be performance. so for what the OP is arguing, which is feature additions, he has a good and rightful point.

and there's no need to get defensive. the world won't end if someone makes a decent iphone competitor. and as long as you don't go around blindly acting like the iphone will always be the best phone forever, people aren't going to mock you if a better one comes out.

i personally think apple make the best computers and have the best phone out right now, but i'm not going to have some blind pride and get defensive when something new comes out.

Even if you activate MMS on your plan or something? If you have MMS you have email, I believe. If you have email and MMS is activated on your plan you can probably receive photos on your Carrier provided email, which should be automatic, or just make people send it to your real email.
I bought a Samsung 6 years ago, in Europe, had to activate MMS to find out I couldn't see all the pictures sent to me, I had to go on the web, so I just forwarded the picture to my real email, got charged as if it was an MMS though, about a €, damn pixels..

Personally I am looking forward to 3.0 big time. I am not currently an iPhone owner, in fact I can count the number of times I have used one to do anything on one hand. In my endless effort to save money and consolidate everything I will almost certainly be purchasing a new one later this summer, and 3.0 tipped that over the edge. It adds the features I have right now in my BB that I would miss too much if they were gone.

Sure, it doesn't have everything that you want, or think it should have, but it is certainly an improvement over what is currently out there now. Hell, Apple might still have a few surprises up their sleeves for WWDC, who knows!

My only complaint comes down to AT&T itself and their plan prices. I'll end up paying the same amount for the iPhone that I do currently with the BB, but I sorta feel like I could be paying less. I never use 450 minutes, hell I only use about 100 a month thanks to nights/weekends/m2m. That coupled with the 20$ for messaging quickly racks up the prices and I really hope the rumors are true about them giving some new options this summer. Maybe I'll finally put a dent into my 5000 rollover minutes.

Cheers.

1. There's no perfect device but the iPhone can be one for some.
2. There are, I believe, official AT&T talks about reduced iPhone plans, of course they include data but it should all cost less.

When electricity was first harnessed to a point where it could be used in a controlled environment it was considered one of the great wonders of the world. Do you think Edison stopped there, with his first light bulb? No, he continued to make improvements, and improvements are still being made today.

You are making an extremely weak strawman argument because even the pinnacle of achievement can be improved and refined as has been shown in history time and time again.

I agree! Different strokes for different folks :p I'm glad that there is no one perfect device because it gives people options, the same way different people get different results with their cell carrier in different parts of the country. AT&T is great where I live, might not be for someone else.

You really don't get it do you? This only works about 50% of the time in my experience. Just ask many who have done this on a semi-regular basis, the above thing that you present is not reliable AT ALL. This is why we've been clamoring for MMS for the longest time. Additionally, I just don't have the time nor inclination of keeping track of who has what type of phone. MMS is relatively ubiquitous on cellphones. Email is not. Figure out which one is easier for MOST people to keep track of. That's right... MMS.

Back on topic, iPhone 3.0 for me at least addresses 99% of my needs. However, my BIGGEST complaint is still there: THE WORLD'S WORST NOTIFICATION SYSTEM EVER. I really hope that iPhone 4.0 addresses the notification system.

Whoever thought that the pop-up metaphor was a good idea for notifications needs to be FIRED.

Tell me, how is email not "old technology," it's been in use since the 70's?

And besides, what's with all the hate people have been giving the iPhone's features? Usually, the people who have historically poo-pooed MMS are the same ones telling us to "trust" Apple, that Apple "knows best", and that Apple "gives us not what we want, but what we need." Nevertheless, I do give some of you kudos for at least being consistent, even though it contradicts Apple's iPhone philosophy and plan.

well apple doesn't really need to revolutionize the iphone since all other companies are still playing catch up... i'm just glad apple is finally putting in the features a smart phone should have in 3.0.

Correction- other phones *were* playing catch up.
Palm Pre has caught up and passed the iPhone.... it was inevitable, of course. Apple milked the UI and feature set for 2 years- but they knew their headstart wouldn't last forever.

I personally think Apple isn't stupid and a whole slew of new features or Apple/Google apps may be released at WWDC.

with all the new smartphones that it looks like att is launching this year, including the rumored eos and lancaster, apple is going to have to release something good to keep consumers on their platform

is 3.0 enough? i dont think so.

they need to add features to the new iphone like a better camera and video recording to make it more desirable

the pre has passed the iphone? Didn't realize it was out yet.

I believe he speaks of features, not sales. You may love the iPhone, but there is absolutely no denying it's more feature-rich than the iPhone. As for sale numbers, you're right, it's not out yet. As for ease of use and the way it runs, you're right, nobody knows yet.

Most "iPhone-killers" are more feature rich than the iPhone and they still failed... More features ≠ better

All I want is the Push Notifications and TRUE multitasking. One of them is coming soon enough, the other? Who the hell knows.

What I don't like is that Steve said in the original iPhone keynote years ago that this was a true multitasking OS. There should have been an asterisk above his head when he said that. Or fine print shooting up the screen like the PC/Mac commercial.
