Wow, that is incredible. Thank god you weren't using it at the time.

Even if you did not have your battery replaced, as I remember with the battery situations apple NEVER sent me anything in the mail saying "GET A NEW BATTERY!!", which I think is the proper course of action if they want their batteries recalled.

I am sure apple will nicely replace your computer and compensate you. They always seem to strive to keep their customers happy no matter what.

Good luck and keep us updated.

get your dad on the phone and get him to say that you are emotionally traumatized. Seriously, even if you didn't do the battery replacement, you still shouldn't have to worry about getting your balls blown off by a laptop....

They better help you out......or else....

I got nothing...

I don't know about Apple, but what happened to you is a very serious issue. All I can say is be calm when calling them, state the facts, and if you don't get what you want, ask to speak with a supervisor (and ask nicely).

Don't threaten legal action, because if you do so, they will no longer talk to you. Legal action can take a long time which you don't want.

I think the least they can do for you is give you a Macbook Pro. :D Perhaps compensate for your burnt table too.

That's scary! I hope they give you a new one.

*moves laptop away from (certain area) and onto legs*

Remember the guy from Australia where his MB blew up/caught fire? Apple sent him a MBP...

Apple will be taking care of you, no need to worry. Some tech support people arent exactly the smartest sometimes

Ouch! Kind of makes my knackered trackpad temperature sensor (see earlier posts I've made) seem like nothing!

I got a letter in the post ages ago about the battery recall for my 15" 1.5GHz PB (2nd to last PB revision). Although my battery model number matches the batteries being recalled, the serial number is in a totally different format, so I assume I'm not affected.

Still, it never hurts to call AppleCare, or run the s/n through the web site to double check.

you have an english essay due on saturday?

but seriously tho, good luck on getting your powerbook replaced.

The time stamps on posts are there for a reason. He made this thread on Thursday and said the paper was due "tomorrow"... meaning Friday.

Anyway, yeah... pretty much quote most of the stuff that's already been said and hopefully Apple will take care of you. If you keep having trouble after they get back to you, contact the consumerist ( http://consumerist.com/ ) and see what advice they can give. They may have a number you can use to get a real "person" and not a phone support drone that has no mind of their own.

Damn it man, you missed a great time to make some S'mores. XD

Seriously though, thats f***ing scary. Thank god my Dell laptop cells are made by Sanyo, and my iBooks battery doesnt fall under the recall, is anicent, and hardly holds a charge for more than 5 minutes.

Are you sure about your Dell's battery - they have had recalls as well.

I thought Dell also used Sony made Lithium-ION Batteries

Apple are soooooo going to shower you with free stuff to keep you quiet on this one. :D

Probably best not to mention you've already posted it on one of the webs most popular Mac destinations tho'. ;)

This is actually very true. The first week that the first rev's of the MBP's came out I was able to (after a lot of calling) get a FREE battery and a whole nother power adapter free! All because I was one of the first to have the whole "battery not performing well" problems a week after I bought it. After enough calling and getting to a higher power they gave me free stuff!

I am sure that you can get WAAAYYYY more from Apple if your computer EXPLODED! And many of the AppleCare people have internet so just tell them to look at your pictures.

If not.. sue them :).:apple: :apple: :apple: :apple:

EDIT: additionally....
Also if none of the above work then send it into a mass media place. I am sure where you live one of your local TV stations has a "investigative reporting" team. Well tell them that your computer from Apple exploded in your house and could have killed you... that would be a great story and Apple wont like bad press.. chances are they can help you get a new laptop.

Has the OP specified whether or not he's part of the recall program?

I seriously doubt Apple would do anything for him if he had due time and notification to have his battery replaced.

ooh wow! I really hope apple takes good care of me like they did with you. If not, I am seriously going to take it to the press

eMail your story and pictures to Apple at this address:

steve@mac.com

This goes to some kind of eMail "operator" inside Apple HQ. He'll send it to whoever needs to hear about this within Apple. You'll probably receive a reply within a few days. I've done this and the response is great; you literally get to work one-on-one with someone inside Apple, and they're always very helpful.

wow! I think i would freak if i saw that! my lord!

hopefully, it's now within the battery recall. call apple...if not a satisfactory response from them, do as someone else suggested and call a local investigative reporting group from the local tv station. and tell apple you're going to do that too.

keep us posted. would be interested to know what transpires.

cheers,
keebler

PS. show the pics to your teacher (although, i'm a parent so this is going to sound like a parent, you should have had a backup). doh.

UPDATE!

So, today an Apple engineer was suppose to call me and they did, but during the day so I didnt get it. But I did call them back and got voice mail which made me mad because I was waiting to speak to them all weekend! Anyways, I left them my cell phone and they finally called back :) So basically what the apple engineer said was that I need to send it in to them and they'll investigate if it were really the battery. I asked her if I will be able to get a replacement and so then she put me on hold, to go ask a consumer relations guy. After waiting like 20 mins listening to crappy jazz, I finally got an answer. She told me I should make an estimation of the damages and email her, once I send out the package with my damaged pb in it.

So what do you all think about that? Does it sound like, I am going to get a replacement?

Yes. If not do what I said!! :) They should take care of you. Especially since you are assessing the damages.
