Don't touch that thing. BATTERY ACID. let the apple techs take care of it, and be prepared for lots of gawking when you take it in.
Not that I want to nit-pick but since these are Lithium-Ion batteries, I don't think there is any acidic material in the battery. (They store energy by being one electron short(?) and not by a chemical reaction.)i would bring in the laptop and toss it on the desk in front of your teacher and be like...here's my english paper. if you want it, dig through the battery acid...

If your grade 11 chemistry was like mine you might recall an experiment with throwing a chunk of potassium or Lithium into a beaker of water. These oxidize so rapidly they sputter, smoke (and in the case of Lithium) ignite on top of the water. I recall the chunks of lithium had to be kept in a jar of mineral oil because contact with the air could be all it needed to start oxidizing

At any rate I hope Apple replaces the laptop, but this is a great reminder to watch out for those recalls!
