Developers are already talking about the fact that the app piracy rate is higher among owners of jailbroken devices

This quote is classic. You have to be jailbroken to run pirated apps. Therefore 100% of the pirates are jailbroken. That does not mean 100% of jailbreakers are pirates.

Take a class in logic sometime.

Reason 1# is a good enough reason for me not to jailbreak it.

I like to obey Apple's rules, and so when something goes wrong with it I can go ask for help and not be told, "Sorry, you voided the warranty and now you are on your own."

People are stupid and scared. I would NEVER not have my iphone jailbroken. seriously.

+1 on this void the warrenty crap. If your phone is too messed up to restore, via a hardware issue, you think the Apple genius is going to tell anything?! The functionality and added features to a jailbroken phone are fantastic. I have had an iphone since the 2nd week of there release and have been jailbroken since then... respectivly. Never a problem. But this whole thread as I mentioned is poo. I mean for those who do not want to jailbreak and enjoy video, copy / paste and whatever else "if your scared say your scared", don't beat around the bush....

I have replaced my phone 3 times over the the past two years and never, ever a problem. And yes, it was a hardware problems via Apple's lack of quality control.

LOL so people who don't jailbreak are 'scared'.......yeah scared of the lag !!!

Why do people who jailbreak have this cultist mentallity? It's disturbing.

I'm just excited that my non jailbroken iPhone is running like a dream, super responsive, no lag, no bugs, no freezing, no weird things happening. It's turned back into a tool and not a toy.

My iPod touch is Jb'n still, but that is a toy imo.

You miss the mark my friend. All these excuses about lag, crashing, and whatnot have NEVER been the case for my phone and for countless others. Are their ways to actuate lag after jailbreaking... sure. Add tons of themes, video ringtones, and other stuff. Large theme's are really the only thing that can slow the GUI of a jailbroken phone but this is all done by choice. The reason 99% of the people don't jailbreak for added features is because they are scarred of messing up their phone. This claim of lag and crashing or damage is nonsense. To each their own...

As far as your claim of cultist mentality, again you misunderstand the defense against stupidity as being a cultist. What I mean by stupidity are the nonsensical claims of those who have not jailbroken and seen how the phone acts for themselves.

Sorry mate, but jailbroken iPhones are nothing new to me. The lag is there no doubt about it. The people who say that there isn't lag are the ones IMO that don't know what they're talking about.
At least the people who are pro jailbreak and admit there is lag are being honest.

I am sick of comments like these.. THERE IS NOOOOO LAGGG!!!!!!!!! yeah there is if you have HUGE themes. i dont have any lag at all and stop using that as an excuse.....

all i hear is lag lag lag lag lag ... shut up.. it is NOT a fact that there is lag.. i will post a youtube video soon. of my jailbroken iphone and i will open all apps and go online to prove to you people there is no lag..

and even if there is.. I would take a few seconds of lag for all the extra functionality i am getting out of my iphone.. and if it wasnt for jailbreakers there wouldnt have been an appstore ...learn your facts

I mean come on, without Jailbreaking, screenshots like the above would not be possible. If it takes me a few extra seconds to load SMS, so be it.

Jailbreak does not cause lag. Winterboard causes lag. Learn the difference.

You say there is no lag on your iPhone thats jailbroken. Well your a lucky person. Treat it like gold.
There's no need to get so worked up because I say that there is lag. It's a known fact that the majority of people agree with. Read BigBoss site.

There ain't anyway I would put up with the lag of my SMS opening up a few seconds later for that theme.....but each to their own.

You know what... since your claim seems to run counter to the experience of the majority of iPhone owners, why don't you prove it?

Seriously: design an experiment wherein a jailbroken iPhone and a stock iPhone perform the same tasks. Document the exact software loadout of the jailbroken iPhone. Hell, if you want to get fancy, write down the week numbers. Run the benchmark a couple times and post your results. Some of us will run the same configurations and see if we can't duplicate your results. If we can, and if we find that jailbroken iPhones consistently have worse performance for an agreed-upon set of standard tasks, I will publicly retract every single denial of your "jailbreak == lag" theory.

I'm sure we can find volunteers to help replicate the experiment -- lord knows you've pissed off enough people with your wild claims and accusations of having a "cultist mentality".

If it takes three seconds to launch it's not a big deal. I have irealsms and it runs in the background and opens up instantly. I never have to wait for it.

But if i have one complaint about using winterboard is that quite often when i click on an icon to launch an application, they all start wiggling. I tried to turn it off using the wigglefree package in cydia, but it doesn't stop them from being able to be moved around, it just keeps them from shaking. Too bad it didn't lock the icons from being moved, *sigh*.

My iPhone is downloading jailbreak data... right now.

I wanted to find out what I liked and what I disliked about jailbreaking.:

You made some good points. I dont think jailbreaking is all that great but I did jailbreak my touch to see what its like because it's out warranty and I don't use it much anymore anyway and I really dont see much benefit.

Because I think there is an air of coolness about jailbreaking and "sticking it to the man" so to speak. It's overated hype IMO.

Are we still going on about this. I have my iPhone jailbroken and a friend's iPhone that has never been jailbroken and guess what they are the same speed.

I also find it odd that a person who has posted asking about the Mobile Installation (i.e. warez) is anti jailbreak and this vocal about it.

Out of interest what do you have installed on your JB'n iPhone?

And who said I'm anti jailbreak? My iPhone has been jailbroken more times than I can remember and my 32gb 1st gen Ipod touch has always been jailbroken. My point of view is that there is always inherent lag that comes from a jailbroken device with the stuff that the majority of people install.

People get so uppity when you mention lag and jailbreak.....a quick google will reveal I'm not a lone night rider in these thoughts. It's one of the biggest bitches of jailbreaking.

yup

Status icons are a basic feature of any phone, smart or not. I agree that they are invaluable to the iPhone. You can have fun unlocking your phone every time you want to check for mail, while we just glance at the status bar.

+1
when I went back to stock for a day I was seriously jonesing for the status bar notifications. My fav jailbreak app, followed closely by clippy and bitesms.

And who said I'm anti jailbreak?

I think some people might have been led to believe that given that you post in lots of the jailbreaking-related threads bitching about the "inherent lag", claiming that Apple has secret software that can detect previously-jailbroken phones, and talking about how people who disagree with you have a cultist mentality.

But who knows why people think you're anti-jailbreak... it could be anything really.

Speaking of jailbreaking, how's that experiment I proposed coming along?

Let me repeat- Apple will never be able to tell if your device is jailbroken unless you had it to them as such.

Interesting that you know exactly what all those forensic and security engineers that Apple has hired are working on, or will be working on in the future. What Apple knows, and what their store employees are allowed to tell you, are two completely different things.

And even if Apple isn't looking, app developers are already looking. A few app developers of popular games have already collected huge lists of the UDIDs of jailbroken devices (it's easy to "phone home" a lot more of your personal information from a jailbroken device!). At least one developer has suggested sending all such lists in to Apple.

ianaae.
