Had my iPhone 4 for 16 months with nothing more than a bumper. Never dropped it, never scratched it, nothing. I sold it in perfect condition when I got my iPhone 4S despite having no screen protector or hardcore case.

I decided that I was just going to go naked with my 4S and after 2 weeks with it it fell out of my pocket at a football game and landed screen down on the concrete. It had about 20 scratches on the screen and it was cracked in the bottom corner. I jinxed myself by telling everyone how well I take care of my phone. Fortunately Apple replaced it for me for free (despite their new policy about NOT doing that for the 4S) because I happened to know someone who works at the Genius Bar.

I have since gotten a Squaretrade warranty and started using bumpers again. I still refuse to use a screen protector or high impact case.

I've always had cases on my iPhones, but recently decided I don't drop my phone enough to warrant an ugly case on it. Been naked for about 2 months and have yet to drop it (well, I have once on carpet). So far so good and enjoying every minute of naked goodness. :D

Completely agree. It is a great design, best of all smartphones and it would be a shame to cover it up.

I'm thinking of going naked as well, but the idea of scratching the camera lens stresses me out. This is my first iPhone, and the camera is great. I want to keep it that way. However, the phone just looks so stunning naked. I might with AC+ since I cannot seem to find a suitable case around the $30 mark, but then that brings me back to worrying about the camera. I'm very careful with the phone. I'm not worried about scratches so much, just the camera.

I just got the phone and I don't even want to leave the house with it. :p

Too many case options. Too many expensive cases that seem badly made. I was dead set on AC+ and the SGP Neo Hybrid A, but $35 for a case and $100 for AC+ seems a little redundant. Not to mention the Hybrid's poly carbonate bumper seems to be a weak point. If I'm paying almost $40 for a case, I don't want it to break in two weeks. The whole situation is enough to drive me mad. I'm not even factoring all the cases that seem to cause flash issues.

A case seems to be a necessary evil to protect the camera lens, so why do they all suck so hard?

An Apple genius told me that having a case will make no difference in scratching the camera lens. The lens is plastic because the optics inside the camera would not work if the entire back was glass. He has had to replace iPhone back plates from phones that had cases as well as naked iPhones. His advice was to just not put the phone in your pocket with anything else that could scratch.

Just enjoy your iPhone naked. That is what I'm doing and just like you I enjoy the pictures and do not want a scratched lens. If I have to, the cost of a new back is $25, which is much less than many of the cases available today.

I feel you OP.

I'm going for a naked look myself but with scratch protection. I have a screen protector and back protector plus lucky labs wrap for the antenna band as its easy to scratch.

Hey any pics of the ikonicedge ?

A bunch of them at the link here. I got the white one for my white 4s

No case me for, only had it for one day though. Had my iPhone 4 for since launch day, gave it to my wife yesterday with an otterbox defender though. I never used it.

She likes a case so it doesn't slip so much, I don't like the case because it doesn't fit in my iPod dock, or my car mount.

I had a case on my iP4 for 13 months and never dropped it. However my Mrs has dropped it twice when she has borrowed it. I have a 64Gb 4s on order and have been experimenting with my iP4 caseless and I much prefer it.

I have a PS rear and front protector, Lucky Labs clear side protection and a Sena ultraslim waiting for my 4s

However when I give my old iP4 to the Mrs, a pink NGP is getting installed on it.

No way. I'm really really really careful with my stuff, but last time I handed my iPhone to my friend to get directions while driving, she forgot it in her lap and it ate pavement. The steel band dents really easily and it may drive you insane. If you don't drop your phone, someone else will.

Always use protection.

Another naked thread

I have always had a case on or a bumpe. I decided to go naked with my white 4S, so I placed a ghost armor on the phone. My only concern is the camera lense getting damaged/scratched when placing the phone on my desk or other flat surface.

Do others have these concerns and how do you avoid scratching the lense?

some people put cases on their phone to protect it and the lens but i wonder which one is the best!

I used to be really worried about my iPhone 4 back near launch day and hesitated to put it down even with a case on it. Now after over a year of ownership I use no case and am not worried about dropping it or scratches anymore. And I'm glad I've gotten over that phobia.. Enough case purchases to equal the on contract price.

so true, you spend so much on cases to end up going naked anyway LOL
This sums it up. I'm rocking the black Apple bumper right now, but it's only been a few weeks since I bought my 4S and I already have the itch to take it off and go naked again.

Anyway, I also agree that this thread was unecessary.
So was my comment.

I am befuddled.

Another naked thread that has absolutely no nudity.

Thumbs down.

I don't know why I keep falling for it.

Scratch that itch...you'll feel better. :D

just take the bumper and or case off and just use the phone the way it should be used :)
Im going to enjoy it while i can.

Wow, ppl are taking new threads really seriously. Maybe they should initiate a verification process through which if they decide upon review that the topic of the proposed thread too closely relates to another, they will automatically convert it to the mostt recent post on that threa and notify the member. Then I wouldn't have to read all the complaints and reply with this lol.

When I feel a new thread isnt warranted, i just dont reply at all and that forces the person to just search for the other threads themselves. Or I'm courteous and post the links to the other threads.
