Naked and loving it!!!!!!!!!

Let me first say that this is my second IPhone. My first was an IPhone 4 and as soon as I got it I went out and got an Otterbox to protect my precious new gadget. I really liked my IPhone 4.

About a year later my mom got her first Iphone and given her arthritis I thought it best if I gave her my Otterbox Defender as she would be more likely to drop hers. I could not believe how much more enjoyable the device was without any kind of case on it. It is hard to explain and might sound a little weird but I went caseless for the rest of the time I had my 4.

I purchased a white 5S in December and again ordered an Otterbox (Commuter this time). One day in late January I took my Iphone out of the case to clean and again fell in love with the way the device felt without any kind of case on.

I then proceeded to weigh the pros and cons of going naked as most of you on this discussion board are doing. I have been fortunate enough to have never, ever dropped an Iphone that I have owned. I know I probably just jinxed my self but it's the truth. I have always been the type to be careful and take good care of my things. I find the device far more enjoyable without any case. I know that I am taking a huge risk not having a case AND not having AppleCare or any kind of insurance but as many of you on here have said already it is just a phone.

So in summation I choose to GO NAKED. It makes the device so much more enjoyable that I am willing to take the risk.

Well said! I've been using mine naked for a few weeks now and am not being overly careful but love using it this way. Only time I use a case is when I go to the gym, although come to think of it, I don't know why?!

One wreck and the car is done. Drop a car, it too would not survive well. Not so dumb.
There are laws and safeguards to reduce the chances of that happening. For one thing, you can't buy a car if you don't have a driver's license and you had to take a driving test before you can get a license. Insurance is also mandatory.

Personally, can't go without a case on the iPhone. I've accidentally dropped my iPhone on concrete enough times that even with AppleCare+, I likely still would have needed buy a couple of new iPhones. The Otterbox Defender is a bit of overkill for me, though. The Speck CandyShell works well enough.

I would use a case if I was at the gym. I tend to sweat a lot and like to hold my Ipod in my hand when on the treadmill. Would not want sweat to leak into the device. Also sweat would probably make the device more prone to slip out of my hand.

I have a slate coloured 5S on Vodafone Uk. I have the official Apple leather case and a Filmex crystal screen protector. The official apple case is really lightweight, durable and offers excellent protection. Was a bit apprehensive at £35 but you get what you pay for. Whats strangely nice is it changes/wears as you use it adding a bit of character, the first case I have had that does this. Defo glad to be back from android for the time being.

I use the analogy of Megan Fox. If someone gave you Megan Fox, why cover her up in a huge fur coat. You'd want her naked ....except for her thumbs, she can hide those

Your post is like 6-8 years too old man. In High school in Transformers amazing..... Megan Fox now. I would need 18 coats and she would need 60 of them. I also want all her medical records......

I use to go naked with my iPhone till I dropped my 4s 2 weeks before my upgrade date. Very sad. Had a case on it ever since.

Apple phones are well built enough, and too beautiful, to mask. I never understand why cases are needed. I've had my 4 for four years, and the back glass panel is broken. The phone is still beautiful, and it works. You people are paying for quality and covering it up. Why not, then, go out and buy a Galaxy?

Because the Galaxy doesn't run iOS and we're already kinda locked in to that? Frankly, I don't buy a smartphone to marvel at its aesthetics and engineering. I buy one so I can use it for my day to days tasks (calls, messaging, email, web browsing, calendar, etc) and it can accomplish that regardless whether its chassis is made of aluminum or plastic.

As long as you're willing to pay extra cash. You could also buy the iPhone 5c.

I still can't believe people don't use a case. You can never be too careful, especially at the bar.

It's called common sense. Unfortunately it's not that common anymore.
Also if your using your phone at a bar, well your just doing it wrong.

Uh huh, yea sure you don't.

The 5c wasn't really much of an upgrade over the 5 I already had so not much point getting that. If a couple of our lines hadn't been upgrade eligible, I likely would have skipped upgrading altogether.

As long as the front fascia is black and non-distracting, and the device isn't butt ugly, yeah, I don't. I'm really more of a function over form kind of gal.

For me case is adding usability. Apple leather case makes it much, much easier to hold it while providing excellent protection. Real leather adds to the perception of luxury item each time you touch it.

Holy cow. I didn't know so many people had trouble deciding to go naked or not.

My two cents, I used to cover up my phone (started with the first iPhone) and then I went naked (starting from the 3g). Once I went naked, I starting stressing about where I should place my phone when im out. If im in the library, I would place it on a book or something. Never that oh so horrendous bare wood. Once the 3GS came around I just placed it on whatever. Its too much stress to worry about a phone and trying to keep it pristine. As long as you exercise some common sense, your phone should look mint if you ever want to sell it.

Most recent example, I place my iphone 5S anywhere. Whether its concrete, bare wood, metal, etc etc my iphone goes there without stressing "wheres my soft cloth to place it on top of." i realized that if you just place the phone down normally instead of slamming and throwing, the back shouldnt pick up any damage regardless of the surface.

I dropped my phone yesterday while playing Ghosts, got a two inch scratch on the screen. You know what? It happens. Why save a phone for the next person?

I really like the feel of the Apple leather case on both my iPhone and my iPad Air

What the hell are you on, man? She's only 27. Mid-20s to mid-30s is like, the peak of condition. After 35 it's downhill. (yes I'm past it; I'm being fair! :) )

Naked.

I buy iPhone for the craftsmanship. An engineered piece of art.

Just be careful with it. I've had each iPhone since launch, case-less. Haven't broken one yet.

I use it without a case.... Now.

I got 12 xtremeguard protectors for front and back when they were 90% off. Few $ and I can swap if when they develop issues.

I have an iPhone wallet to carry it. As far as use though. Case free

Being "careful" is not the best advice. They're called accidents for a reason!

Having said that, these days I just go with a Caudabe Veil. I don't expect it to offer much drop protection, but at least it protects against annoying chips and scratches. Say what you will but the iphone is still pretty fragile kit. It's one thing to drop it on concrete and crack a portion of it, but another thing altogether to simply bump it and chip a corner.

I'm very careful with my devices, but it takes just a little bump to damage it, at least ahestetically

Accidents are called accidents for a reason, agreed.. Are they not avoidable? Regardless, being careful is fine advise. Although what I think of as "being careful" probably differs wildly from many around here. I'll say it again.. Be careful people.. Why wouldn't you be careful with your $800 pocket computer?

Being careful isn't enough. Simple like that.
