Because you'll going to drop your iPhone sometime and you wish you had a case on. Since I paid about $850 for this iPhone 5S 64 gb, it's going with a case.

If you got the cheaper 16 gb iPhone 5S, I guess you can go naked.

Not necessarily haven droped one in the last 6 yrs of iPhones. However not to concerned about it either. Currently 64GB 5S

I Iove the case-less feel of the iPhone and would never put on anything remotely bulky. Like some other people have said, my hubby and I have used the Caudabe Veil for a while now and it's perfect at keeping that naked feel.

Fixed.

It has worked fine for me for five years now.

There was nothing to fix.
I'm sure I could find small dents on a naked iPhone 5/5s after a year of naked use. No matter how careful you are.
I am, very much indeed, but it took just a small bump on a table edge, while the phone was IN MY POCKET, to cause a small dent on my previous iPhone 5.
It wasn't even me, I was hit by a friend , accidentally, but it was enough to cause a damage. Nothing special, you had to look for it to notice, but it was there.
Now I have an Apple leather case on my iPhone 5S.

iPhone 4/4s were stronger.

Not necessarily but it could happen. And as in my case it could happen not because of your fault.

But better to be worry than sorry ....

These threads are really pointless. If you want to use a case then use one. If you don't then don't. I don't and I'm not worried about it. Also I beg to differ, you would not be able to find a ding dent or scratch on my iPhone because there are none.

You'd have to be straight crazy not to have some form of protection.

Either that or you don't care about resale value or you like to burn money on replacements via oow or applecare+.

I'm so crazy every iPhone I've ever owned has been naked. Resold at decent value too.

You could self-insure or use insurance to cover any loss or serious damage.

if you can take care without cases and avoid scratches or other damages why not naked ^_^

I have a very thin, soft-touch "case" (back and sides) for my 4S. It's so discreet, yet makes it a ton more comfortable and easier to hold.

I find that no case means it's very slippery, so it's more stressful on the hand and wrist. It also slides off surfaces such as a car seat easily, and rattles on hard surfaces like a cupholder or a table... especially when it vibrates.

Thick cases are very unappealing, though. But with a soft thin one, it's much easier to hold, you can't put it down quickly on any surface (even wet ones), it won't make a loud vibrating noise or rattle or slide around, and protects the edges and back at the same time.

I wouldn't bother with a case if the phone was made for human hands, though. ;) Some devices are a soft, grippy silicone-type material, and have more curved backs.

I can understand why people choose not to put a cover on their devices. I just don't think the phones are worth admiring that much... they're pretty simple looking, and they're everywhere. Plus, I look at it for hours each day. ;)

Had a lifeproof on mine for a few days - but quickly returned it. Waterproofing is useless when you can't hear anything and your stuck with newton rings all over the display (the baby powder trick is useless).

Wound up getting a Zagg arsenal, and couldn't be happier. Dropped it a few times now (2-3 feet, always when drunk) without issue.

Never did put a screen protector on it, since I much prefer the real screen feel.

It's called common sense. Unfortunately it's not that common anymore.

Also if your using your phone at a bar, well your just doing it wrong.

Uh huh, yea sure you don't.

IMO, there is no such thing as common sense, only experience. And people's experiences will vary, often greatly, which in turn influences whether they use a case or not. Neither side is wrong.

For me, I have dropped my iPhone 4s once, maybe twice in the two years I owned it. Conversely, I hate the feel of cases and dislike how they mask the feel of the iPhone's metal body and add extra bulk and weight. So I have weighed the odds, and made a conscious decision that no case is preferable in my situation.

And if my iphone gets into a terrible accident? Well, that's what AppleCare+ is for. :p

For myself it's simple:

I like keeping my electronics in mint condition, so I use a case + screen protector.

Those who don't are either reckless, don't care about their electronics, or are wasting money on OOW / AppleCare replacements.

Ummm, so what would you call your purchase of cases!? No seriously!?

Accidents are called accidents for a reason, agreed.. Are they not avoidable? Regardless, being careful is fine advise. Although what I think of as "being careful" probably differs wildly from many around here. I'll say it again.. Be careful people.. Why wouldn't you be careful with your $800 pocket computer?

I have had people run into me at a mall or some such because their eyes were buried onto their phone while walking. :)

Naked with a screen protector is the future.

If you can't look after your phone correctly, then the results are shown. It took me 3 years to break my iPhone 4 and that was due to my lack of concentration when greeting a friend on a night out.
