Just as you call AppleCare+ a waste, I could conversely say that cases are a waste...

Just saying...

Two completely different levels of waste.

One costs a one time $20 and allows you to maintain the original iPhone you purchased in mint condition throughout its life.

The other costs $100 and an additional $50 per replacement which allows you to replace your phone when it gets scuffed up... yet does nothing to fix the problem as the new naked replacement will down the line get scuffed up again without a case.

That is absolutely the way I feel about it. I rather spend on a case even though I rarely drop any smartphones or tablets I own regardless. Maybe some just want a new device after awhile but that is still spending much more money.

Mine is semi-naked as I have screen protector on the front and the back. The sides are fully exposed and there are some nicks on the chamfered edges, which I don't care anymore. The gold iPhone looks too good to be covered up.

And when I do sell it, it will probably be worth $50 less than the going price on ebay, which I guess in a way is the cost of a case or two...

I don't get it with the phone is not meant to be covered up posts. I can see everything quite nicely with the clear case on my gold 5S.

And for me it makes it less slippery.

I feel really frustrated though as a particular case caused a minor knick on the corner of my phone. It's a kick in the teeth when I tried to keep it protected. >_<

50$ less ? I wouldn't buy an iPhone with several nicks and dents, not matter what the price is ....

Just recently I began to use my phone case less. I figured since I have AppleCare+ I have nothing to lose (other than $49 to replace it before selling..but a case costs the same). Its by far the best decision I made since using my 4/4S case-less!

Well, $49 PLUS the $99 you already lost by purchasing AppleCare plus. The $150+tax you will pay is roughly 25% of the value of the phone that you are just throwing away!

$49 for a case? More like half that...

Your correct in a way. However a good majority of phone users purchase more then one case before they turn to the next new thing...it all adds up.

Just as a side note there is no tax on AppleCare or the replacement fee.

AppleCare+ for iPhone provides coverage for up to two incidents of accidental damage from handling. For AppleCare+ for iPhone purchased after September 10, 2013, each incident is subject to a $79 service fee plus applicable tax.

Also $79 for each replacement?

Jesus. I thought it was $49 per replacement. Thats even worse than I thought...

It is $49 for iPhone 5 and iPads 5s is $79.
It's okay if someone using a case and no AC+ drops theirs and it cracks the screen their charge will be $269 a case isn't a guarantee.
And there is no applicable tax to the fee or the AC+ agreement.

Tax varies by state. That said, I believe AC+ replacement is $79 for iPhones and $49 for iPads.

I find it amazing how few people on here can read.
Perhaps you should re-read your post. It said iPhone 5 replacement is $49 and iPads 5s is $79. Technically, replacement cost for any iPhone with AppleCare+ is $79 if purchased after September 10, 2013. That means if you bought an iPhone 5 with AppleCare+ on clearance on September 11, 2013, your replacement cost for accidental damage is $79.

Nope don't need to re-read It doesn't matter when it was purchased iPhone 5 is a $49 dollar fee as are iPads. But you can believe what you will. I'm done.

You'd have to be straight crazy not to have some form of protection.

Either that or you don't care about resale value or you like to burn money on replacements via oow or applecare+.

I plan to never sell my 4s but I currently have the AT&T exclusive ZAGG Extreme Dry on the phone and ZAGG Original side strips which go on dry too but came from a ZAGG store but when the phone was new, it was as nude as it can get. However it never got any scratching as I kept it in a "ghetto case" which meant wrapping it in a microfiber cloth secured with rubber bands. Also, to this day, i never dropped the phone. If it fell out of my hand or off a surface i'm quick to catch it.

What case was that? Curious because I like to avoid a case that can scratch the phone. Thanks! Feel free to PM me if you don't want to post here.

It was a wallet case. Best way to know if it'll scratch it is to run your fingers along the inside of the case. I didn't realize mine had a defective sharp corner. I'm much more proactive now on thoroughly checking them.

I use one that has the same back as my phone so I can enjoy the color and the design while protecting the device
