I am considering using my 5s without a case too. At the moment have a glass sp on it and an official apple case (red one). What rear and side protection do you guys recommend? When I had the 4s, taking my phone out of a case or bumper caused little scuffs on the bezel. With the 5 same problem. Paint that came of easily from the bezels. Is this still the case with the 5s? Thx for the replies in advance!

It's worth the risk only if
You have
Insurance

Or

AppleCare plus (cheaper)

I prefer to pay for apple care

I'm not one to leave my phone out or forget it anywhere.

Naked is a no go for me! My iPhone sits in my purse and scrapes up against whatever happens to be in there. I put the Caudabe Veil on mine which is the next best thing to naked.

Ah, understandable. I'm female but don't carry a purse so my phone either travels in a pocket in my backpack by itself or in the pocket of my pants, and if they're tight pants, all a case does is make the phone either bulkier or stickier (if its rubbery/silicone/TPU), which makes it a PITA to get in and out of a pocket. I'll take the accidental repair via AppleCare+ if I ever break the screen, which after a year and a half hasn't happened.

No way... I'm gonna use a case with the iPhone 6 for maybe a year or so. then I'll take it off after that.

I've had my iPhone 5 since the day it came out and it's been naked the entire time. There are some scuff marks around the edges. I also have the black iPhone which is the least scratch resistant finish.

I have a case on my phone always. A phone nowadays is a big investment and i would hate it to get wet, break, crack etc. And with today's technology there are some really nice and slick cases out there for very reasonable prices. Check it out.

A scratched or nicked iPhone might actually give itself character. It can't be perfect through out

Mine's cased when in my pocket, but naked when in use. A decent slipcase is the best of both worlds.

I hear you! That's exactly why I keep using the Caudabe Veil. I couldn't find a case that didn't make the phone too bulky or sticky whenever I just wanted to go out in a pair of tight jeans. But with the Caudabe, it's so thin it adds literally no bulk! My husband loves the case for the same reason, although he definitely doesn't wear tight jeans (thankfully). :p

It finally happened. After almost two years of ownership, it happened. Man. :p At my first ever baseball game, too. How sad! Ordered a new screen already, time for some DIY on my poor phone~

Just out of curiosity, how did it happen and what part of the phone took the impact?

The phone slipped out of my hand at waist height, and you can see exactly where it hit the ground at the top of the phone, a little to the left of the front-facing camera. : ) It's missing a few chunks from that point of impact as well. It fell face first and hit the ground hard enough (or at the right angle, I guess) to flip all the way back around and stare at me all broken and stuff. o:

Tough luck. I dropped mine at waist height too; luckily, it bounced right off the ground with no damage done save for a almost imperceptible scratch to the chamfered edge.

I was at the Apple store today talking to a guy about this exact thing. He had a cracked screen. I said how it was amazing we have these devices and how the cracked screen thing is an industry right now with third parties. He said he liked the naked phone even though he had to pay some money. Paying Apple care 99 a year plus 80.00 if the screen cracks is pricey. Most of the third parties charge I think 100 for glass. Maybe less? I like a minimal case, however I also use the charger/case when I go out of town on business so I have a long battery for use all day. Those things are clunky (like mophie) and they really dont protect the glass much either. I might try the veil case. I dont mind a slim profile case. Still the right sort of accident can still crack a screen in a slim case. Otter boxes are huge but help those prone to alot of drops. Let Apple step up to the plate and create a phone that will take a few more knocks. Especially glass. For me the main improvements needed are durability and battery life.

I think if you're clumsy or prone to dropping, the only real solution is an Otterbox or a lifeproof case. There's just no other way around it. For those who can't stand the bulkiness, it's either go naked or go with a super thin like the caudabe veil.

Although since you use the mophie so much, I wonder if you could fit it on even with the caudabe on. Interesting thought, I may have to try that myself. Hate battery cases, but the battery life on the iPhone is abysmal.

I agree, Otterbox is the only way to go for the best protection from dropping. I can't really think of a counter-argument.

Hi everyone, i've been trying a lot of different cases/back covers/bumpers for my 5s and i still can't find the perfect one. I think the size, weight and feel of the naked iPhone can't be experienced with a case; however, it's too scary for mee to not use any protection on my 5s.

To those who don't wear any cases, do you recommend it? Is your iPhone too damaged, scratched, etc.? Have you ever regret not using a case? Please convince me to go naked:D

I haven't used a case since the iPhone 3GS. The iPhone is like an artwork, so why would I cover it up? It feels so good in the hand. I do have the AT&T insurance plan on it, in addition to AppleCare+. But I've never broken it-I only have them for the piece of mind.

Naked-iPhone owners

I've had four iPhones and never used a case. All of them look completely new. I do not abuse them but I do not handle them with extra care either. I've never dropped my phone in 20 years even once since my flip phone days. If you tend to drop your phone then I suggest using a case.

man their new applecare prices are ******** lol. a bit of handiwork and the glass can be replaced for $36 if you are willing to do it yourself, i'm super excited :D
