Naked 4S except for xtremeGuard front and back screen protector. Won't protect against the glass shattering after a fall but keeps it from getting scratched. In general I don't like cases but the 4S borders on just a bit too much heft. If phones keep getting thinner and thinner I may start using a case (on my next phone) just to keep mine above 4 oz in overall weight.

Are bumpers good for protecting the back? Like does it have an edge that protect the back or something that it overlaps?

I have a 5s (upgraded from the 3G, a huuuuuuge difference!) the 3G is a tank. I just put a screen protector on the 3G and sometimes I'd drop it, and eventually, I dropped it and it cracked on the back, but it's not a big deal, the thing is a tank!!! So when I bought the 5s gold 64, I didn't open it until I could get a front and back zagg protector, and I haven't had any problems with it. And I haven't dropped it.

And yes I do have insurance on It, just in case! The phone was crazy expensive and to not put insurance on that would have been crazier!

But I agree with the others, I don't like cases at all. They make the phone bigger and change the design and everything. But then again, if you don't care about that and you are an accident prone person, get a case!

I went from 2007-2010 without using a case on my iPhone 2G. For me, the iPhones are just too thin these days to use comfortably without one, so I currently have a Incipio Feather on my 5S.

I don't care about keeping the phone safe in general, I just want a better fit in my hand.

I'm of a similar opinion.

The iPhone 5/5S series is too thin and edged for me to hold comfortably without a case. However, it feels perfect with a TPU case.

Apple leather case and zagg glass protector. Completely protected and still slim. Leather feels better than aluminum in my opinion

Ex Naked here

I ran naked on my iphone 3g, 4s and 5s. My 3g and 4s never had a problem and I even dropped them many many times. No significant screen scratches or cracked screens. In general my 4s fared better than my 3G -- my 3g had a lot of scratches on the plastic back.

My 5s is a different story. I'm not sure how, but my 5s came up with 2 significant scratches after a month. I don't carry anything in my pocket with it and put it back side up on tables. But I must have had some change or keys in my pocket once.

I also dropped it twice. Each time I consider a small drop. Once getting out of bed and another sitting at a bar. The bar I consider a small drop because I "caught" it with my foot. But it bounced into the foot rest. In both cases it had big gashes on the metal band around the phone.

I now run my 5s with a case and screen protector.

Pretty disappointed but my 5s is a lot lighter than my 4s...Get a case and screen protector.

I left my iPhone naked for a while. I absolutely loved it until it dropped and got quite scratched. I was lucky it wasn't anything major. Now just have a thin case. I prefer functionality over having a nice phone with a cracked screen :)

Well my Lifeproof experiment didn't last. Back to just the black leather apple case.

This case is the best slim case I've ever owned.

I tend to take turns. A week naked and then another week with a case. But recently I was in class and I had my headphones connected to my iPhone. Since I was listening to music I kept the headphones inside my shirt. I forgot that I had my headphones connected. So I had put down my iPhone on my desk. So went to reach for something I've dropped and the headphones pulled my iPhone and it dropped to the grown face down. And it made a huge sound. Thankfully I had a case because if it didn't it would've more than likely had a big crack on the screen.

Tech21 case FTW!

+1 Of all the cases there are the Tech21 mesh is my absolute favorite case.

The more dinged up my phone gets, the less I care about using a case.

I worried more about damage when the phone was new. I still don't want it to get damaged, but at this point, with the phone being a year old, having a pink tint develop on the screen, and a slight chip in the home button, I'm not that concerned about damage which does not impact functionality.

When I get an iPhone 6 then I'll get back to worrying, lol.

I used a case for months after I received my 5S. I've been using a naked iPhone for the last at least 2 months now and have no damage on my phone (although if I'm working*, I'll put my phone in a case) Then again, I keep my phone in one pocket, keys/change in another pocket, and always use my phone without throwing it around.

The only thing I have protecting my phone is a screen protector. I'd definitely recommend using your iPhone without a case.

*I work part time in a warehouse aside from school.

I've been rocking my iPhone naked since day 1 and it's been a little over a year. But I also have AppleCare and wouldn't go without a case without it.

I've found screen protectors to be useless and annoying. I've had iOS devices since 2008 and i've never had a single scratch on the screen, never shattered a screen, and my devices stay in my pocket through 2,000 miles of cycling a year.

But it does have a few dings on the edges of the casing, and I really don't care about that whatsoever, which is contrary to most Apple users, who obsess over every tiny blemish.

Putting a case on it would be like putting a front end bra on an aston martin.

I used to have a case on my iPhone for years, then about two years ago I stopped. I look at my iPhone as a device I use, not a item that's going to sit there spotless. And, seeing as I upgrade my iPhone at least every two years I don't care if it has a few scratches and such. Personally, I don't mind things in my life showing wear.

Of course I don't do stupid stuff like place my keys in the same pocket, etc. I find the people, and to each their own, who treat their iPhone like it's a fragile crystal ball funny.

When I had my iPhone I tried to keep it naked, but it was always slipping out my hand and one day it almost fell in the sink. I thought, "Never again".

The phone I currently have only gets taken out of a case is when I'm in bed. I would love to have it naked 24/7 but I fear I'll drop it or something and either the screen will shatter or it'll be submerged in water and die. Can't afford another phone try right now (contract isn't up for a few months and funds are low) so I'm keeping a case on it until I can.

2008-2009: Used a case, b/c of the rounded corners

2010-Present: Naked with screen protectors on both sides or even completely naked at times. Having real corners to hold make a huge difference.

I've also had a beat up 2nd 3GS in 2009 that was beat up, great feeling not to care too.

I've never dropped a phone in my life :)

Would a case really help if you drop it in water?

I'm reading this forum with my tongue in my cheek.

But yes, it is safe to be naked. Just be careful.

Been running naked since the 1st iPhone and have had every model. Never broken a screen or back, put my 5s in my pocket with keys etc. I just feel that is designed to be used without a case, and yes it gets a little scratched up. Some have had a different feel than others, but always comfortable. My wife uses a case and wears a robe...she doesnt like to walk around nekkid :D
